The intent of Carb Cheater is to make the tuning experience much more enjoyable, to mitigate all the annoying guess work which always puts a negative spin on Carbs. I hated it for years, but loved classic cars - I tried to make the thing I always with I had when I was learning, plus its just handy to have anyway. It was something I wanted myself, and to this point it had never existed.

it sounds to me like you have funny words. you never mention the actually mixing of fuel and other than it's dynamic air bleed/leak. so in that case it sounds like it might be best to adjust the carb slightly rich since the cheat can't actually add fuel to the intake runners but, it can add more air! EDIT: unless the metering blocks add fuel based on vacuum.
This devise was a great idea, but the supposed carb tuners and carb makers might hate it. Think about how it might cut into their little scams and bucks they lose, if the devise fixes peoples tunes or does so mostly on their carbs.
Oldskool carb guy here...whoever gives this guy flack over this needs a reality check. We need guys like this on our side, he's sharp as a tack, and has an inventive brain, hell ya...nobody should be giving him flack for simply trying to invent something that helps our cause. Kudos to you man...keep making stuff.
I believe that the AFR is as steady as it is displayed on his phone. It makes since because it is a static leak, only adjusting what comes out of the carburetor which is doing the leg work well enough on it's own. I could only imagine carb tuning was absolutely essential before EFI was standard, and that EFI actually sucks for efficiency, because controlling the smaller volume positively is ridiculous, and also because volumetric efficiency is not efficient at all, because expansion volume is greater than the intake, so VE will make an engine more power dense, but less efficient, the only way to get greater efficiency that way is if the power to weight ratio was much higher, in which case 2 strokes would be more efficient.
So Luke, I have not read all the comments, but I am one of the older guys... 63 to be exact. I grew up with hot rods in the 60's and 70's along with a lot of drag racing. I have seen so many people that did not understand how to setup their car, or for that matter know how to size or tune a carb! This device, the CC, is just the tool to help with getting the carb set correctly. I am not sure why that is not understood. They need to take Derek "VGG" advice, "I got to believe it, because it's right there in front of me"! BTW - I am a software/program guy in the aerospace industry. I for one am really interested to be able to analyze data from the CC. Looking forward to getting my CC in the next round. Thanks again to you and Joe.
I love it, it give the user to see what is going on with their vehicle with out having to go and buy $1000 worth of EFI stuff... This is something we needed.
With EFI you would be spending over $1000 just to make your car more complicated, and less reliable as well. With the CC if it breaks down, you just don't care and run the car like a normal carburetor. Simplicity is what we like!
The fact it's an entirely passive system in the case of failure is really what sold me. Carbs are my jam for the sake of simplicity and the right to repair. I don't like black box devices that will leave me stranded, so when I saw Luke actually selling this kit he's talked about for a while now; I just bout lost my mind. Proudly on the wait list for the beta tester units! 😊👍

I pre-ordered a Carb Cheater because I like to know where I'm at with my carb tuning. I think I have it tuned pretty well by ear but with out a wide band, which I was going to buy before you developed the Carb Cheater, I didn't really know for certain. The automatic vacuum tuning was the cherry on top. Thank you for inventing the Carb Cheater and for your informative videos.

Be proud of what you've made, bro. I plan one purchasing one soon. I love the idea that it gives you some flexibility like EFI, but if it goes bad, you're not stuck like you would be if an ECM goes nuts. I've always wanted to learn more about carbs and plan on picking up a classic soon to enjoy. I love the self sufficiency of being able to maintain your vehicle without the need of thousands of dollars in scanning equip. The fact you still have to know how to get your carb right, even with the carb cheater, for everything to work is great. Just takes the weakness of changes in variables that carbs inherently have. Thanks for following through with this project. Been follow8ng for a while.

Great video, the fact that the carb cheater can be removed or fail entirely and the car will still run on the old-fashioned carburetor is why I find this so much more enticing than an EFI swap. The best parts of the reliability of an all-mechanical carb and the superior control of modern computers. Keep it up man, grumpy old boomers are gonna be grumpy no matter what you do....
I’m 55, been watching your videos for alongtime. When i saw the carb cheater and realized what it is, i got excited about the possibility it represents. I’ve always felt carbs are a compromise in a daily driver application. If you set your carb to perform it’s absolute best at w.o.t. It may not perform as well at lower rpm’s or midrange…if you find the perfect cruise setting, w.o.t. Might not be as good….not saying it would be bad, i just think for a carb to be good all around, you have to compromise a bit. I think carb cheater can help get us closer to a really good tune with less compromise. Therefore, i like it. I’ve been talking to my friends about it, so far only a couple like the concept as much as me. I can’t explain that. What’s not to like? Thanks for your effort!
@@ThunderHead289 man i got a kick out of the comment you made about the technology difference in the old feedback carbs and the technology in carb cheater. I can’t tell you how many feedback carbs and electronic spark control distributors i removed in the late 80’s early 90’s. The technology just wasn’t there back then. And for sure….in the 80’s it would have taken a building full of computers to amount to the electronics of the carb cheater and the phone interface. That’s where respect comes into play. I’ve been tuning carbs of all kinds sense i was very young. But when it comes to utilizing the technology that you have used make our old friend the carburetor easier to work with and function better, i’m not knowledgeable enough to get it done. But i think i can figure out hooking it up and using it! Lol

I love that you're not forcing us to marry it to one car or one combo like some efi tuners out there. I can see this being a awesome tool to troubleshoot or test with and still be able to use it on your daily driver to get the most out of your setup. It's kool, user friendly and useful. It doesn't get any better than that!

This is great I've got the 440 dodge Mopar big block in my RV tuned pretty close I will absolutely buy and install a carb cheater to help increase my efficiency even more for when I'm traveling highway. Will also be running methanol injection it increase efficiency even more.
Can't wait to have this in my hands. It makes a lot of sense and brings tons of benefits with reasonable money. Knowing this was coming available, I sold my Holley Sniper setup before I ever installed it. Back in carb and this time for good 👍
Can you go over all of the non stock items in the interior of the Maverick? I like the screwdriver holding the gate latch closed on the glovebox, and the bungee cord on the visor, mostly because that’s how my cars end up being. Nothing more permanent than a temporary fix that works.
@@ThunderHead289 i converted my El Camino to hydraulic clutch, so I’ve got a master cylinder from a 93 camaro, with a custom made pushrod, bolted with a sandwich plate to the original pedal arm. It’s ghetto as heck, but works like a charm. I’d love to see yours lol.
Luke to hell with them, you're doing a great job. I just ordered one of your kits, not because I don't know how to tune but more so as a tool. I was get ready to buy an afr gauge kit, and after watching what you have done with carb cheater, this just made more sense. With carb cheater and its data logging alone, I will be able to fine-tune my advance curve and vacuum pot so much easier! It's hard for one guy to drive down the road and pay attention to a vac gauge while operating a mighty vac while maintaining a certain speed and logging that info in your head! We are dealing with people who think the vacuum advance just needs plugged. These people are missing the point anyway! Keep up the good work! I support you, brother!

Ok, I've got to say this. Luke, you are way to nice a guy. I'm a 60+ year old cranky millwright, so take this from where it is coming. 85% of these internet genius's don't know whether their ass is punch, bored or drilled. I've listened to men of all trades, all my adult life. Some of which all I can only wonder, how many times they have been dropped as a child. Older men should know better, and I'm talking about well known CZcams "stars". We all know who those are. Personally, I'm into efficiency. That was my forte as a maintenance mechanic. One thing I have learned, and that I have suspected all my life but grown to know in the past few years, is that most all science is at best skewed and at worst corrupt. I don't know how the stoichiometric ratio in automobiles was determined, or under what context, but if anyone believes this they probably believe in Santa Claus. I think it was put in place as a limiting factor for...(fill in the blank). That lawnmower carb, that you had on your earlier videos, works excellent on a 351 modified in a 4x4 f150. Thanks for the info and having the guts to try it. It gave me a little push. This is a message to all men. Shut up, listen and learn. If you don't, eventually you will end up looking stupid. And that is just embarrassing.

Im 42 years old, I just got into muscle car building a few years ago (software engineer by day). I have struggled a bit with carb tuning, so I think a product like this is brilliant! I especially like being able to tune to different parameters on the fly, makes the process of experimenting or dialing in the car much more efficient, and probably more accurate too! Don't let the old dinosaurs discourage you. You have a brilliant product here that will help many people, allowing the hobbyist mechanic to do more for themself (like me!!). Think I'm going to get one of these to see if it can help me out with my '83 camaro with a street demon carb that I have managed to get close but not perfect. Thanks for all that you do!
As soon as you guys make a cheater for a Motocraft carb that is attached to an AMC I-6 258 lm getting one. I’m over 50 yrs old and bought an old Jeep with a carb so I could learn about tuning. I think you bringing this to market is a great idea.
Keep up the great work Luke! This is my FAVORITE CZcams channel! Pre-ordered my Carb Cheater and can’t wait for it to arrive. I’ve dialed in my dual Dellorto carbs for idle and WOT, but the progression circuit and transition to the main jets for efficient cruise has been tricky. The Carb Cheater’s “dynamic vacuum leak” will get me that last little bit of fine tuning and auto adjustment I’ve been searching for. THANK YOU!!! I’ve shared your videos with all me friends and can’t wait for them to test drive my car with the Carb Cheater installed. The data logging is worth it’s weight in gold.
Unfortunately I am not surprised that you are catching negative feedback. I have followed along this whole project watching each video and within the first few minutes of your into of CC my thoughts were, wow someone actually did it and had the basic principle of what you verified in this video. It's great that you are deomonstrating what it can and SHOULD be intended to be used for...and to me, its a brilliant product for people who actually want to daily drive, or be able to comfortably drive a carbureted car safely and easily into varying temps & air density, and get a cleaner exhaust and better mpg while doing so. I have some potential ideas for further testing this in other applications...like on my 83 Rabbit GTI that I have running on Weber DCOE45's, and maybe even old motorcycles (I own a few 70's sohc4 honda CB's) which could potentially bring you to a bigger audience that may work well in other applications. Keep doing what you are doing, I think this is a much needed support product to improve carb application for regular use and may take some time to catch on. I know there are many others like me who truly appreciate the engineering and thought that went into it.

I think it's great! I'm with you. Carburetors for life! Too many people are afraid to think outside the box or to even take a chance on something being better than what's out there. Great video. Luke, you are AWESOME! I'm 62 yrs. old and I love my carburated engines and would love to get one of your carb cheaters for my '84 Dodge truck, but I'm so old school that I don't have a smart phone...I still carry a flip phone...maybe one day. Keep up the good work.
Long ago, Hot Rod magazine ran an article on carburetors. They rated the prowess of carburetor tuning from average enthusiasts all the way up to Pro Stock. When Pro Stock was running dual carburetors. The average person with just a modest set of tools would be to tune a carburetor merely by seat of the pants. The Pro Stock folks, they referred to them as Wizards. I believe your invention takes all the wizardry out of carburetors for the average enthusiasts. Folks don't have to spend thousands on EFI that they truly are not going to exploit to its fullest.
Luke - I have spent more than two years plating around with EFI being controlled with a Speeduino controller that I built and programmed myself. I enjoyed that process and learned a lot through it. When I heard of the Carb Cheater it made an instant connection with me as while the EFI was a fun exercise I really do like the simplicity of a carb and to my mind the CC offers the best of both worlds - well done Luke.
Thanks so much - that's where I was at, I wanted the simplicity and robustness of a carb, but some of the adaptability of fuel injection. I also wanted to couple that with the ability to see what's going on and informed tuning decisions based on data instead of playing educated guess

Thanks. I started watching a while ago and I’m sure a fan of what you do. I don’t know why people give you grief over the carb cheater. Perhaps they don’t understand it. I started tuning carbs on dirt bikes about 1980 myself. My neighbor owned a bike shop and taught me lots about it. I’d like to think I’m half decent at it myself by now. The problem is that it just can’t be done perfectly no matter how good you are. If it could, no one would show up to a race with a box of jets, springs, air bleeds, and screwdrivers. The best you can do is find a compromise and live with it. Probably my situation is tougher than most. I live in southern AZ. Just to drive to town I go through almost a 3000 foot elevation change. It’s totally not uncommon for the temperature in one day of driving to range from 60 to 115. I’d love an expert to explain how to make the tune perfect for all that. It took me about 3 seconds when I first saw your product to realize how cool it was when you said it’s basically an IAC for a carb. I was like how genius is that? The cost of gas and parts these days makes me think this unit will pay for itself pretty quickly, especially for people that live in extreme situations. Don’t let people who don’t understand get to you. Maybe they live somewhere flat without weather. I don’t know. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.
I really appreciate comments like this because I can see that you are the type of person who understands this. Folks like to think of carb tuning and conditions as a 1 or a 0 scenario, but it's so much more dynamic than people realize. The compromises, oh the compromises ... carb Cheater was designed after I ran a wideband and saw that there was no way to perfectly tune around the variability. Does that make carbs bad? No - they make up for it on other fronts. But CC is a bid to "have our cake and eat it too"
@@ThunderHead289 the carb cheater is the best version of fuel injected technology for a carbureted situation I’ve seen. No one wants to run rich but no one wants to run lean more. I know the program thinks faster than me. Proud but realistic.

I love this idea! I'm young and new to the hobby and don't have a clue what I'm doing. I've learned everything I know from family, old gear heads, and CZcams. I just bought one of these and I'm super excited to try it out on my carb. I can't believe how close I was to buying fuel injection nonsense until I stumbled upon your channel. I hope this catches on because it's super slick!
I personally think that CC is genius. Not sure how someone didnt come up with this before. Ive tried explaining CC to some friends and they dont really believe in it mainly because 1. Its "a computer" and 2. They say that its not changing the timing or changing the fuel mixture screws to give the ability to basically have horsepower on demand. CC is simply a helpful tool to make carb tuning a little easier. Its not an like an LS engine where everything is fully computer controlled.
Technically it is a computer..so they aren't completely wrong lol Tell them that if your carb has a vacuum leak(say on intake) it will also change fuel ratio to be very lean, and now tell them that CC is a controlled intake leak..simple enough
I like the idea. I too really only concern myself with altitude when adjusting my carb, as I live at 5000’ plus, but regularly mosey on down to sea level, but my issue was the opposite of yours running rich in the mts., as I would lean out. Initially I fattened up my mixture so I didn’t worry about heading to the lowlands, then I considered buying a carb plate, that ADDS fuel. Ultimately I bought a second carb. So now I run a summit 500 jetted for my home in the mountains and a summit 600 jetted for the valley/beach. The swap takes 5 minutes

I do not know what is the motivation of the nay-sayers, but that is neither my problem nor yours. You have come up with a simple, fool-proof-as-possible, response to the problem of how to make a statically functioning carburetor responsive to the dynamics of changing use in an everyday environment. Genius is the ability to see what is right in front of us that others cannot. You saw a way, and more importantly, you found a way to make it work for anyone with a drill, a screwdriver, a set of wrenches and a cell phone. Pretty cool. Keep it up, young dude, we got your back.
Running a lean mixture during cruise conditions is not hard on the engine. The rule "Lean is Mean" only applies when the engine is under heavy load and/or wide open throttle. That's why carbs have some type of enrichment (power valve or vacuum controlled metering rods) to provide extra fuel while the engine is under load.
Luke I am also an older gearhead as several others have mentioned here. I'm a decent carb tuner but not as good as this thing is. The difference between us is that you have a huge technology advantage vs when we were your age. I'm thrilled that someone like you has the desire and expertise to design and build a product like this that will greatly improve the carburetor experience for many people of all ages and experience. I don't know why anybody would give you grief about it, there are tons of aftermarket parts for old cars to make them a little easier to work with and more reliable. On that note, how soon will they be shipping? I pre-ordered mine for a Q-jet as soon as you dropped the first instruction video.

58 year old old school car guy here. I will be buying this product because with a bad back and bad leg the less time I have to spend under my hood the better. If this keep me from having to convert to fuel injection then I am all for it. Anybody giving you shit about this is just jealous they didn't think of it or have the skill set to develop it. Or they are afraid that the black magic of carb tuning will be taken from them.
I love what you've come up with and the work you've put into it. The smartphone/live integration reminds me of an app for EFI BMWs that's really awesome called MHD that you should check out if you're not familiar with it's features, that one is SO easy to use and makes adding HP so easy and live datalogging w/ a web hosted CSV to go back and analyze runs and diagnose other issues. I've always been an EFI guy, but I've been wanting to try a nice, simple carb setup on my next project and your technology put me over the edge no question about it. If you have a decent carb in decent shape, this will help make it so much less of a mystery and take so much annoyance out of getting everything running right.
I absolutely love the carb cheater! I know little to nothing about tuning a carb, but I will try my best to learn! I'm a tech guy at heart but never really liked programming, I'm more of a hardware guy. Anyway, I love how much thought you put into this. I love that you can just disconnect it and still keep going. I'm working on restoring a 1976 Chevy c10 and I want to keep everything mechanical or EMP resistant. For daily driving until SHTF the carb cheater will help the wallet with achieving better mileage. Not to mention that driving old cars and trucks is just cool!!! Oh and I am by no means a mechanic but even a chimpanzee could work on these old vehicles. Not to mention how much documentation and old heads out there you can ask for help. Parts are simple and thankfully still in production and available. Keep it simple stupid 😂. I plan to swap a 1996 vortec 350 into my c10. I believe the engine I have is mechanical fuel pump compatible but if not, it's not impossible to build a 350 small block for cheap. I want a 200r4 or 700r4 but I think keeping the 3 on the tree Saginaw 3sp manual transmission will be the easiest. I can always swap something else in if I want. Aside from basic restoration like rust removal and seal and metal repair of the floor pans, rocker panels, cab corners and some other minor spots around the body, the truck is solid 😅. It's been in my family for 23 years and has sadly been neglected, it was "fully" restored when we got it but I have a feeling it wasn't all that well done. I have big plans for this truck. Some loftier than others. Like converting it to 3/4 ton axles and brakes as I believe from my research the frame thickness is the same, just needs some various frame re enforcing. I'm going to be replacing the wood bed with metal plate and rubber mats so it can be used as a work truck and still look pretty, I do prefer the wood look but it's just so expensive and not very durable. I want to install exhaust cutouts for impressing people 😂 but keep a quiet exhaust for daily driving. It currently has a 250 i6 straight piped but it's just not what I want. The carb cheater will help me put this truck back on the road and prevent it from becoming scrap! Thank you for your hard work! Can we buy the carb cheater yet? 😊

The big three had this tech years back. I'm from California. Grew up with a 85 Bullnose, 300 six. I remember in 1988 when carbs where dead for production cars . remember when your local collage would teach carb tech. Yes I'm that old. Love how you made it adaptable to the old carb cars. This is amazing, I just preordered mine. In a way the device is adjusting the "holes in your fuel map" but for carbs! Carbs only have so much tunability on the fly. I try to picture this in my head kind of like the difference between a reimann sum and an integral on a curve.

Old guy checking in. I've been there for feedback carbs, variable venturies, lean burns, the introduction of EGR and a bunch more silly things Detroit did to appease the federal government. Seen all the magnets, gas swirlers, air swirlers, pressure regulators, and mystical devices that didn't work. This doo-dad appears to be based in logic, I may try one some day. I have a daily driven 350 Chevy that will occasionally be bracket raced. If I were to tune the car for strip performance, would this allow me to lean it out for highway trips and better MPG? Looks like it would. Next I'd like to see a Pingy Thingy. A knock sensor hooked to a timing control.
I’m going to give this a go. Really digging this concept! I can see the potential! Done the variable valve to eak out some extra mpg in the long flat runs on a big block. This is a game charger. I work in the IT world myself and relish my analog time with my vehicles. This is innovative!
Most folk's first reaction to something new is to trash it. The way I see it this takes a $400 carb and self adjusts the air fuel mix to keep it running clean and prevent burning the pistons and valves. Even a well tuned carb can't do that, you have to pick either a cruise or race mix setting, or most folks do a mix of both which means it's never really right. You get the safety and efficiency of a fuel injection with the cost of a carb and whatever you'll sell these for. I think it's a good idea!
this project reminds me of programmers. we often have issue with software from companies/others, so we write our own wrapper or version of it to suit our needs and sometimes give it to the community to use as well for anyone who prefers your approach over what is already there.
Congrats on project! I hope you make a ton of money… tuning (to me) was difficult, always had old / affordable cars.. lots of “worn out parts”.. if it ran, got me to work I was happy. Your bringing carb “tuning”efficiency/ reliability to a much easier realm.. a good constant AFR makes a “healthy” motor.. you should call it a “pacemaker”.. your giving older motors an extended life..
I think it’s important for you to understand that most people that make negative comments about some thing so great that you’ve done is that they don’t really understand the details or the complexity behind the dynamic environment. You’re a computer guy and have attention to detail and understand the complexities behind those details, and I think the people you’re probably getting flack from are those people who believe in tuning by ear and feel. I like you a muzzle computer person and believe everything needs to be measured and analyzed to affect change so with that congratulations I think what you’ve done is outstanding so please do not stop doing what you’re doing.
There will always be naysayers no matter how great something is. If you're one that disagrees with carb cheater then don't use it. The rest of us who just want our daily driver to run better without constantly making physical adjustments, this is such a great invention. Luke, what you guys are doing here is absolutely great! Don't let the naysayers get to you. You have plenty of support without them and their poor non-progressive way of thinking. And to the naysayers... we wouldn't even have automobiles in the first place without people like Luke, so even if you don't want to embrace the progression, he still deserves your respect.
I am very impressed Luke from what I've seen. I do understand carburetors quite well and what you have basically done was made an adapter to make to make a carburetor function very similar to what the predator carburetor back in the 60s and 70s did..... It used vacuum control and air flow to control fuel and air inlet mixture...... Which ensured the af mixture.

I have never had any problems tuning a carb, and have no idea why people would have, because they are really simple machines. That said, I really like this whole thing you have done because it really helps fine tune to a whole new level.
The intent of Carb Cheater is to make the tuning experience much more enjoyable, to mitigate all the annoying guess work which always puts a negative spin on Carbs. I hated it for years, but loved classic cars - I tried to make the thing I always with I had when I was learning, plus its just handy to have anyway. It was something I wanted myself, and to this point it had never existed.

it sounds to me like you have funny words. you never mention the actually mixing of fuel and other than it's dynamic air bleed/leak. so in that case it sounds like it might be best to adjust the carb slightly rich since the cheat can't actually add fuel to the intake runners but, it can add more air! EDIT: unless the metering blocks add fuel based on vacuum.
This devise was a great idea, but the supposed carb tuners and carb makers might hate it. Think about how it might cut into their little scams and bucks they lose, if the devise fixes peoples tunes or does so mostly on their carbs.
Oldskool carb guy here...whoever gives this guy flack over this needs a reality check. We need guys like this on our side, he's sharp as a tack, and has an inventive brain, hell ya...nobody should be giving him flack for simply trying to invent something that helps our cause. Kudos to you man...keep making stuff.

I believe that the AFR is as steady as it is displayed on his phone. It makes since because it is a static leak, only adjusting what comes out of the carburetor which is doing the leg work well enough on it's own. I could only imagine carb tuning was absolutely essential before EFI was standard, and that EFI actually sucks for efficiency, because controlling the smaller volume positively is ridiculous, and also because volumetric efficiency is not efficient at all, because expansion volume is greater than the intake, so VE will make an engine more power dense, but less efficient, the only way to get greater efficiency that way is if the power to weight ratio was much higher, in which case 2 strokes would be more efficient.
It’s a marvel of engineering that will save our classics for generations to come!

So Luke, I have not read all the comments, but I am one of the older guys... 63 to be exact. I grew up with hot rods in the 60's and 70's along with a lot of drag racing. I have seen so many people that did not understand how to setup their car, or for that matter know how to size or tune a carb! This device, the CC, is just the tool to help with getting the carb set correctly. I am not sure why that is not understood. They need to take Derek "VGG" advice, "I got to believe it, because it's right there in front of me"! BTW - I am a software/program guy in the aerospace industry. I for one am really interested to be able to analyze data from the CC. Looking forward to getting my CC in the next round. Thanks again to you and Joe.
I love it, it give the user to see what is going on with their vehicle with out having to go and buy $1000 worth of EFI stuff... This is something we needed.
With EFI you would be spending over $1000 just to make your car more complicated, and less reliable as well.
With the CC if it breaks down, you just don't care and run the car like a normal carburetor. Simplicity is what we like!

The fact it's an entirely passive system in the case of failure is really what sold me. Carbs are my jam for the sake of simplicity and the right to repair. I don't like black box devices that will leave me stranded, so when I saw Luke actually selling this kit he's talked about for a while now; I just bout lost my mind. I think I have it tuned pretty well by ear but with out a wide band, which I was going to buy before you developed the Carb Cheater, I didn't really know for certain. Be proud of what you've made, bro. I plan one purchasing one soon. I love the idea that it gives you some flexibility like EFI, but if it goes bad, you're not stuck like you would be if an ECM goes nuts. I've always wanted to learn more about carbs and plan on picking up a classic soon to enjoy. I love the self sufficiency of being able to maintain your vehicle without the need of thousands of dollars in scanning equip. The fact you still have to know how to get your carb right, even with the carb cheater, for everything to work is great. Just takes the weakness of changes in variables that carbs inherently have. Thanks for following through with this project. Been follow8ng for a while.

Great video, the fact that the carb cheater can be removed or fail entirely and the car will still run on the old-fashioned carburetor is why I find this so much more enticing than an EFI swap. The best parts of the reliability of an all-mechanical carb and the superior control of modern computers. Keep it up man, grumpy old boomers are gonna be grumpy no matter what you do....

I’m 55, been watching your videos for alongtime. When i saw the carb cheater and realized what it is, i got excited about the possibility it represents. I’ve always felt carbs are a compromise in a daily driver application. If you set your carb to perform it’s absolute best at w.o.t. It may not perform as well at lower rpm’s or midrange…if you find the perfect cruise setting, w.o.t. Might not be as good….not saying it would be bad, i just think for a carb to be good all around, you have to compromise a bit. I think carb cheater can help get us closer to a really good tune with less compromise. Therefore, i like it. I’ve been talking to my friends about it, so far only a couple like the concept as much as me. I can’t explain that. What’s not to like? Thanks for your effort!

I can’t tell you how many feedback carbs and electronic spark control distributors i removed in the late 80’s early 90’s. The technology just wasn’t there back then. And for sure….in the 80’s it would have taken a building full of computers to amount to the electronics of the carb cheater and the phone interface. That’s where respect comes into play. I’ve been tuning carbs of all kinds sense i was very young. But when it comes to utilizing the technology that you have used make our old friend the carburetor easier to work with and function better, i’m not knowledgeable enough to get it done. But i think i can figure out hooking it up and using it! Lol

This is great I've got the 440 dodge Mopar big block in my RV tuned pretty close I will absolutely buy and install a carb cheater to help increase my efficiency even more for when I'm traveling highway. Will also be running methanol injection it increase efficiency even more.

Can you go over all of the non stock items in the interior of the Maverick? I like the screwdriver holding the gate latch closed on the glovebox, and the bungee cord on the visor, mostly because that’s how my cars end up being. Nothing more permanent than a temporary fix that works.

@@ThunderHead289 i converted my El Camino to hydraulic clutch, so I’ve got a master cylinder from a 93 camaro, with a custom made pushrod, bolted with a sandwich plate to the original pedal arm. It’s ghetto as heck, but works like a charm. I’d love to see yours lol.
Luke to hell with them, you're doing a great job. I just ordered one of your kits, not because I don't know how to tune but more so as a tool. I was get ready to buy an afr gauge kit, and after watching what you have done with carb cheater, this just made more sense. With carb cheater and its data logging alone, I will be able to fine-tune my advance curve and vacuum pot so much easier! It's hard for one guy to drive down the road and pay attention to a vac gauge while operating a mighty vac while maintaining a certain speed and logging that info in your head! We are dealing with people who think the vacuum advance just needs plugged. These people are missing the point anyway! Keep up the good work! I support you, brother!

Ok, I've got to say this. Luke, you are way to nice a guy. I'm a 60+ year old cranky millwright, so take this from where it is coming. 85% of these internet genius's don't know whether their ass is punch, bored or drilled. I've listened to men of all trades, all my adult life. Some of which all I can only wonder, how many times they have been dropped as a child. Older men should know better, and I'm talking about well known CZcams "stars". We all know who those are. Personally, I'm into efficiency. That was my forte as a maintenance mechanic. One thing I have learned, and that I have suspected all my life but grown to know in the past few years, is that most all science is at best skewed and at worst corrupt. I don't know how the stoichiometric ratio in automobiles was determined, or under what context, but if anyone believes this they probably believe in Santa Claus. I think it was put in place as a limiting factor for...(fill in the blank). That lawnmower carb, that you had on your earlier videos, works excellent on a 351 modified in a 4x4 f150. Thanks for the info and having the guts to try it. It gave me a little push. This is a message to all men. Shut up, listen and learn. If you don't, eventually you will end up looking stupid. And that is just embarrassing.

I sent your video on the carb cheater to my Ford buddy, who’s newest vehicle is a ‘78 Bronco. He really loved the idea and is thinking about getting one for his’77 LTD to try it out. Despite any negatives you may be receiving, this is a great product. 👍
Im 42 years old, I just got into muscle car building a few years ago (software engineer by day). I have struggled a bit with carb tuning, so I think a product like this is brilliant! I especially like being able to tune to different parameters on the fly, makes the process of experimenting or dialing in the car much more efficient, and probably more accurate too! Don't let the old dinosaurs discourage you. You have a brilliant product here that will help many people, allowing the hobbyist mechanic to do more for themself (like me!!). Think I'm going to get one of these to see if it can help me out with my '83 camaro with a street demon carb that I have managed to get close but not perfect. Thanks for all that you do!

If you are going to run a carburetor and drive the car I think it is a great investment. There are only positive results.
As soon as you guys make a cheater for a Motocraft carb that is attached to an AMC I-6 258 lm getting one. I’m over 50 yrs old and bought an old Jeep with a carb so I could learn about tuning. I think you bringing this to market is a great idea.

I’ve dialed in my dual Dellorto carbs for idle and WOT, but the progression circuit and transition to the main jets for efficient cruise has been tricky. The Carb Cheater’s “dynamic vacuum leak” will get me that last little bit of fine tuning and auto adjustment I’ve been searching for. THANK YOU!!! I’ve shared your videos with all me friends and can’t wait for them to test drive my car with the Carb Cheater installed. The data logging is worth it’s weight in gold.
Unfortunately I am not surprised that you are catching negative feedback. I have followed along this whole project watching each video and within the first few minutes of your into of CC my thoughts were, wow someone actually did it and had the basic principle of what you verified in this video. It's great that you are deomonstrating what it can and SHOULD be intended to be used for...and to me, its a brilliant product for people who actually want to daily drive, or be able to comfortably drive a carbureted car safely and easily into varying temps & air density, and get a cleaner exhaust and better mpg while doing so. I have some potential ideas for further testing this in other applications...like on my 83 Rabbit GTI that I have running on Weber DCOE45's, and maybe even old motorcycles (I own a few 70's sohc4 honda CB's) which could potentially bring you to a bigger audience that may work well in other applications. Keep doing what you are doing, I think this is a much needed support product to improve carb application for regular use and may take some time to catch on. I know there are many others like me who truly appreciate the engineering and thought that went into it.

Long ago, Hot Rod magazine ran an article on carburetors. They rated the prowess of carburetor tuning from average enthusiasts all the way up to Pro Stock. When Pro Stock was running dual carburetors. The average person with just a modest set of tools would be to tune a carburetor merely by seat of the pants. The Pro Stock folks, they referred to them as Wizards. I believe your invention takes all the wizardry out of carburetors for the average enthusiasts. Folks don't have to spend thousands on EFI that they truly are not going to exploit to its fullest.
Luke - I have spent more than two years plating around with EFI being controlled with a Speeduino controller that I built and programmed myself. I enjoyed that process and learned a lot through it. When I heard of the Carb Cheater it made an instant connection with me as while the EFI was a fun exercise I really do like the simplicity of a carb and to my mind the CC offers the best of both worlds - well done Luke.
Thanks so much - that's where I was at, I wanted the simplicity and robustness of a carb, but some of the adaptability of fuel injection.
I also wanted to couple that with the ability to see what's going on and informed tuning decisions based on data instead of playing educated guess

Thanks. I started watching a while ago and I’m sure a fan of what you do. I don’t know why people give you grief over the carb cheater. Perhaps they don’t understand it. I started tuning carbs on dirt bikes about 1980 myself. My neighbor owned a bike shop and taught me lots about it. I’d like to think I’m half decent at it myself by now. The problem is that it just can’t be done perfectly no matter how good you are. If it could, no one would show up to a race with a box of jets, springs, air bleeds, and screwdrivers. The best you can do is find a compromise and live with it. Probably my situation is tougher than most. I live in southern AZ. Just to drive to town I go through almost a 3000 foot elevation change. It’s totally not uncommon for the temperature in one day of driving to range from 60 to 115. I’d love an expert to explain how to make the tune perfect for all that. It took me about 3 seconds when I first saw your product to realize how cool it was when you said it’s basically an IAC for a carb. I was like how genius is that? The cost of gas and parts these days makes me think this unit will pay for itself pretty quickly, especially for people that live in extreme situations. Don’t let people who don’t understand get to you. Maybe they live somewhere flat without weather. I don’t know. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.

Folks like to think of carb tuning and conditions as a 1 or a 0 scenario, but it's so much more dynamic than people realize. The compromises, oh the compromises ... carb Cheater was designed after I ran a wideband and saw that there was no way to perfectly tune around the variability. Does that make carbs bad? No - they make up for it on other fronts. But CC is a bid to "have our cake and eat it too"
@@ThunderHead289 the carb cheater is the best version of fuel injected technology for a carbureted situation I’ve seen. No one wants to run rich but no one wants to run lean more. I know the program thinks faster than me. Proud but realistic.

I love this idea! I'm young and new to the hobby and don't have a clue what I'm doing. I've learned everything I know from family, old gear heads, and CZcams. I just bought one of these and I'm super excited to try it out on my carb. I can't believe how close I was to buying fuel injection nonsense until I stumbled upon your channel. I hope this catches on because it's super slick!

I personally think that CC is genius. Not sure how someone didnt come up with this before. Ive tried explaining CC to some friends and they dont really believe in it mainly because 1. Its "a computer" and 2. They say that its not changing the timing or changing the fuel mixture screws to give the ability to basically have horsepower on demand. CC is simply a helpful tool to make carb tuning a little easier. Its not an like an LS engine where everything is fully computer controlled.
Technically it is a computer..so they aren't completely wrong lol
Tell them that if your carb has a vacuum leak(say on intake) it will also change fuel ratio to be very lean, and now tell them that CC is a controlled intake leak..simple enough
I like the idea. I too really only concern myself with altitude when adjusting my carb, as I live at 5000’ plus, but regularly mosey on down to sea level, but my issue was the opposite of yours running rich in the mts., as I would lean out.
Initially I fattened up my mixture so I didn’t worry about heading to the lowlands, then I considered buying a carb plate, that ADDS fuel.
Ultimately I bought a second carb. So now I run a summit 500 jetted for my home in the mountains and a summit 600 jetted for the valley/beach. The swap takes 5 minutes

I do not know what is the motivation of the nay-sayers, but that is neither my problem nor yours. You have come up with a simple, fool-proof-as-possible, response to the problem of how to make a statically functioning carburetor responsive to the dynamics of changing use in an everyday environment. Genius is the ability to see what is right in front of us that others cannot. You saw a way, and more importantly, you found a way to make it work for anyone with a drill, a screwdriver, a set of wrenches and a cell phone. Pretty cool. Keep it up, young dude, we got your back.
Running a lean mixture during cruise conditions is not hard on the engine. The rule "Lean is Mean" only applies when the engine is under heavy load and/or wide open throttle. That's why carbs have some type of enrichment (power valve or vacuum controlled metering rods) to provide extra fuel while the engine is under load.
I mean, your preaching to the choir.
Luke I am also an older gearhead as several others have mentioned here. I'm a decent carb tuner but not as good as this thing is. The difference between us is that you have a huge technology advantage vs when we were your age. I'm thrilled that someone like you has the desire and expertise to design and build a product like this that will greatly improve the carburetor experience for many people of all ages and experience. This product is a winner and so are you. Ignore the criticism unless it is constructive and beneficial to your Carb Cheater device. Keep up the great work!

I don't know why anybody would give you grief about it, there are tons of aftermarket parts for old cars to make them a little easier to work with and more reliable. On that note, how soon will they be shipping? I pre-ordered mine for a Q-jet as soon as you dropped the first instruction video.
I am 48 years old and I have messed around with a lot of carbs and I am glad to see that you took the time and effort to improve the quality of the carburetor I like carbs you get that quick snap and quick drop when you rev the engine with fuel injection when you rev and let off the rpms hang for a few before they drop

58 year old old school car guy here. I will be buying this product because with a bad back and bad leg the less time I have to spend under my hood the better. If this keep me from having to convert to fuel injection then I am all for it. Anybody giving you shit about this is just jealous they didn't think of it or have the skill set to develop it. Or they are afraid that the black magic of carb tuning will be taken from them.

I love what you've come up with and the work you've put into it. The smartphone/live integration reminds me of an app for EFI BMWs that's really awesome called MHD that you should check out if you're not familiar with it's features, that one is SO easy to use and makes adding HP so easy and live datalogging w/ a web hosted CSV to go back and analyze runs and diagnose other issues. I've always been an EFI guy, but I've been wanting to try a nice, simple carb setup on my next project and your technology put me over the edge no question about it. If you have a decent carb in decent shape, this will help make it so much less of a mystery and take so much annoyance out of getting everything running right.
I absolutely love the carb cheater! I know little to nothing about tuning a carb, but I will try my best to learn! I'm a tech guy at heart but never really liked programming, I'm more of a hardware guy. Anyway, I love how much thought you put into this. I love that you can just disconnect it and still keep going. I'm working on restoring a 1976 Chevy c10 and I want to keep everything mechanical or EMP resistant. For daily driving until SHTF the carb cheater will help the wallet with achieving better mileage. Not to mention that driving old cars and trucks is just cool!!! Oh and I am by no means a mechanic but even a chimpanzee could work on these old vehicles. Not to mention how much documentation and old heads out there you can ask for help. Parts are simple and thankfully still in production and available. Keep it simple stupid 😂. I plan to swap a 1996 vortec 350 into my c10. I believe the engine I have is mechanical fuel pump compatible but if not, it's not impossible to build a 350 small block for cheap. I want a 200r4 or 700r4 but I think keeping the 3 on the tree Saginaw 3sp manual transmission will be the easiest. I can always swap something else in if I want. Aside from basic restoration like rust removal and seal and metal repair of the floor pans, rocker panels, cab corners and some other minor spots around the body, the truck is solid 😅. It's been in my family for 23 years and has sadly been neglected, it was "fully" restored when we got it but I have a feeling it wasn't all that well done. I have big plans for this truck. Some loftier than others. Like converting it to 3/4 ton axles and brakes as I believe from my research the frame thickness is the same, just needs some various frame re enforcing. I'm going to be replacing the wood bed with metal plate and rubber mats so it can be used as a work truck and still look pretty, I do prefer the wood look but it's just so expensive and not very durable. I want to install exhaust cutouts for impressing people 😂 but keep a quiet exhaust for daily driving. It currently has a 250 i6 straight piped but it's just not what I want. The carb cheater will help me put this truck back on the road and prevent it from becoming scrap! Thank you for your hard work! Can we buy the carb cheater yet? 😊

The big three had this tech years back. I'm from California. Grew up with a 85 Bullnose, 300 six. I remember in 1988 when carbs where dead for production cars . remember when your local collage would teach carb tech. Yes I'm that old. Love how you made it adaptable to the old carb cars. This is amazing, I just preordered mine. In a way the device is adjusting the "holes in your fuel map" but for carbs! Carbs only have so much tunability on the fly. I try to picture this in my head kind of like the difference between a reimann sum and an integral on a curve.

Old guy checking in. I've been there for feedback carbs, variable venturies, lean burns, the introduction of EGR and a bunch more silly things Detroit did to appease the federal government. Seen all the magnets, gas swirlers, air swirlers, pressure regulators, and mystical devices that didn't work. This doo-dad appears to be based in logic, I may try one some day. I have a daily driven 350 Chevy that will occasionally be bracket raced. If I were to tune the car for strip performance, would this allow me to lean it out for highway trips and better MPG? Looks like it would.
Next I'd like to see a Pingy Thingy. A knock sensor hooked to a timing control.

I’m going to give this a go. Really digging this concept! I can see the potential! Done the variable valve to eak out some extra mpg in the long flat runs on a big block. This is a game charger. I work in the IT world myself and relish my analog time with my vehicles. This is innovative!
Most folk's first reaction to something new is to trash it. The way I see it this takes a $400 carb and self adjusts the air fuel mix to keep it running clean and prevent burning the pistons and valves. Even a well tuned carb can't do that, you have to pick either a cruise or race mix setting, or most folks do a mix of both which means it's never really right. You get the safety and efficiency of a fuel injection with the cost of a carb and whatever you'll sell these for. I think it's a good idea!

this project reminds me of programmers. we often have issue with software from companies/others, so we write our own wrapper or version of it to suit our needs and sometimes give it to the community to use as well for anyone who prefers your approach over what is already there.

Congrats on project! I hope you make a ton of money… tuning (to me) was difficult, always had old / affordable cars.. lots of “worn out parts”.. if it ran, got me to work I was happy. Your bringing carb “tuning”efficiency/ reliability to a much easier realm.. a good constant AFR makes a “healthy” motor.. you should call it a “pacemaker”.. your giving older motors an extended life..
I think it’s important for you to understand that most people that make negative comments about some thing so great that you’ve done is that they don’t really understand the details or the complexity behind the dynamic environment. You’re a computer guy and have attention to detail and understand the complexities behind those details, and I think the people you’re probably getting flack from are those people who believe in tuning by ear and feel. I like you a muzzle computer person and believe everything needs to be measured and analyzed to affect change so with that congratulations I think what you’ve done is outstanding so please do not stop doing what you’re doing.
There will always be naysayers no matter how great something is. If you're one that disagrees with carb cheater then don't use it. The rest of us who just want our daily driver to run better without constantly making physical adjustments, this is such a great invention. Luke, what you guys are doing here is absolutely great! Don't let the naysayers get to you. You have plenty of support without them and their poor non-progressive way of thinking. And to the naysayers... we wouldn't even have automobiles in the first place without people like Luke, so even if you don't want to embrace the progression, he still deserves your respect.
I am very impressed Luke from what I've seen. I do understand carburetors quite well and what you have basically done was made an adapter to make to make a carburetor function very similar to what the predator carburetor back in the 60s and 70s did..... It used vacuum control and air flow to control fuel and air inlet mixture...... Which ensured the af mixture.

I have never had any problems tuning a carb, and have no idea why people would have, because they are really simple machines.
That said, I really like this whole thing you have done because it really helps fine tune to a whole new level.
