Mitchell grew up in an all white suburb, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence in how that upbringing permitted him to being a more palatable and respectable figure for middle America. You won’t see this comments on a GQ video where another athlete showcases their tattoo, purely because of the counter-assimilative connotations
