  • Welcome to Adam’s Garden Guides, and I'd be delighted if you could subscribe to my channel if you enjoy this video and would like more.
You’ll often hear me say that every plant in your garden must earn its place, so today I’m featuring an evergreen shrubs that I was first given over 44 years ago that really satisfies this claim. It’s name is Rhododendron yakushimanum, first discovered on the Japanese island of Yakushima in the 1930’s.
Shrubs form the backbone to a garden and this evergreen shrub not only provides structure all-year-round but really takes cente stage during late spring when it puts on a spectacular show of glorious flowers.
Over the next few minutes you can find out why this rhododendron is one of my favourites, and perhaps you have a position you could grow it in your own garden.

That's great ... I really hope you enjoy growing it as much as I have. It has given me great pleasure for over 40 years ... what more could you ask for from a plant.

Thank you I’m going to order that tonic as my Rhodendron has a few yellow leaves and I didn’t know this about the iron.

Great idea. Getting the feed right for plants is so important, and if some leaves are pale and yellow they are telling you they need the right food. Thanks for tuning in to my channel.

Thank you for the video. I love the show of big borders full of rhododendron in spring/early sommer. Here in Germany are a lot of parks that give us the possibility of seeing this. Just now i thinking of a maintanance less (can i say that?) border i thinking of rhododendron and azeleas for a stunning and nice clean touch i my garden

Thanks Andrea. Yes rhododendrons and azaleas are on the whole quite problem-free and easy to maintain ... in large gardens and parks they almost look after themselves. However, in the garden you can nurture them a little more, especially by deadheading and feeding, adding some more mulch if needed, and watering during dry weather.
