Hey all, this weeks video is about Chickenpox and how to treat it. I think I have had over 300 messages from parents to do a video on this topic so without further ado here it is.

WHAT IS CHICKENPOX:
Chickenpox is a highly contagious infection, which means it spreads easily from person to person. If you’ve not had chickenpox before and someone in your household gets it, it’s very likely you’ll catch it too.
Chickenpox is a common infection caused by the varicella zoster virus. It causes an itchy, spotty rash. The spots start flat then become raised and blistered, before crusting over. For most people, chickenpox isn’t serious. You’ll probably feel better after a week or so.
You can catch chickenpox at any time of year, but it’s most likely in spring. It’s most common in children under 10, but you can catch it at any age. Once you have had chickenpox, you’re very unlikely to catch it again. About nine out of 10 adults are immune as a result of catching chickenpox when they were a child.
If you’ve had chickenpox, the varicella zoster virus will stay dormant in your body for the rest of your life. At any time later in life, the virus could be reactivated, causing shingles.
SYMPTOMS OF CHICKENPOX:
1. Chickenpox starts with red spots. They can appear anywhere on the body.
2. The spots fill with fluid. The blisters may burst. They might spread or stay in a small area.
3. The spots scab over. More blisters might appear while others scab over.
Other symptoms:
You might get symptoms before or after the spots, including:
• A high temperature above 38C
• Aches and pains, and generally feeling unwell
• Loss of appetite
Chickenpox is very itchy and can make children feel miserable, even if they don't have many spots. Chickenpox is usually much worse in adults.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION & WHEN TO SEEK URGENT MEDICAL ATTENTION:
• If you have chickenpox don't be around pregnant women, newborn babies and people with a weakened immune system, as it can be dangerous for them.
• Don't use ibuprofen unless advised to do so by your doctor, as it may cause a serious skin infections called necrotising fasciitis.
• Don't give aspirin to children under 16.
Speak to a GP if:
• You're not sure it's chickenpox.
• The skin around the blisters is red, hot or painful (signs of infection)
your child is dehydrated.
• You're concerned about your child or they get worse.
Tell the receptionist you think it's chickenpox before going in. They may recommend a special appointment time if other patients are at risk.
Ask for an urgent GP appointment if:
• You're an adult and have chickenpox.
• You're pregnant and haven't had chickenpox before and have been near someone with it.
• You have a weakened immune system and have been near someone with chickenpox.
• You think your newborn baby has chickenpox.
In these situations, your GP can prescribe medicine to prevent complications. You need to take it within 24 hours of the spots coming out.

I’ve had chickenpox for the past four days and it’s absolutely dreadful some of the worst itchiness I’ve ever felt in my entire life, thank you for this video was very helpful I wish I watch this before I got chickenpox.

its my 2nd day since the blisters have appeared, it is very uncomfortable, i suggest staying at home, hospitalization can make you uncomfortable as i was there the first day suffering with IV injections, drips and cannula, all of that may mentally exhaust you if you’re someone like me, don’t worry or stress out too much as it does happen to almost everyone once. Although i’m 17 and in adulthood the symptoms are much worse as for the pain and itching, i suggest taking lukewarm bath as they really help with the itching, try to a bath every day, wear cotton clothes although these things aren’t important but can help ease the pain.
include soft foods in your diet such as bananas, carrot juice, light vegetables soups, nothing thats hard to digest.
calamine lotion as he mentioned is good for persistent itching. take care.
In how many days the blisters go completely
Medicine for ChickenPox
Pharex Aciclover 56 pcs
Take 2 tabs every 4 hours (5x a day)
except bedtime for 7 days
Paracetamol 20 pcs
Biogesic 500mg
Take 1 tab every 4 hours for temp 37.8c or above
loratadine alerta 7 pcs
take 1 tab at bedtime for itchiness

I have chicken pox right now … it’s been 2 days now and blisters are really becoming big but calamine cream literally helps me and it’s not itchy at all… drink lot of water while you’re bed and enjoy your times with family and friend while talking to them and spend time with god and read the word of god and you will be absolutely fine after few days .. good times ahead 😇

I've had chicken pox when I was 2. It has left scars on my face. I'm 22 now. It has affected my confidence and self esteem.
I think you can treat the scars with Fractional Laser CO2 and platelet-rich plasma(PRP).

When i was doing my attachment at a community pharmacy, there was one customer that kept insisting on getting a steroid cream for his chickenpox coz he said that the itching was really bad. And surprisingly, the pharmacist assistant dispensed it. Is this allowable?

Are you a medical doctor or pharmacist? I think i've got a symptom of chick pox since yesterday. I can see that it still at an early stage. My mother told me I've encountered it during a child, so it makes me curious as to the reason behind this thing appears again on certain part of my body in small quantity (hopefully its not getting increase). Planning to go to a nearby clinic today if I can.

I’m 13 years old. I’ve never had chickenpox before and I haven’t got the vaccine either(it isn’t in my country). Is that okay? Should I be worried?
I was with my cousins(spending the weekend there), 3 weeks ago and one of them just got finished with the chickenpox and when I was at their house, my other cousin came down with them the last day of me being there(they only had a few spots because it was just starting). I spent a whole weekend with them. Is there a chance I’ll get them?

I've got them for the second time and I'm 17. Seems pretty unlucky and my torso is absolutely covered. I'm just going to not itch and wait it out, I hope they don't get much worse it's about my 4th day.

I have chiken pox and the problem doesn't end there evn continously coughing can't sleep help what to do ??? I went for check up medicine he prescribed is not helping

Had it when I was 6. Remember it like it was yesterday. I felt really sick but after being treated and taking medication I got through it. I’m worried about getting shingles now that I’m getting older.
What are shingles?
@@amaanmoulvi3064 shingles is the same virus that causes chix pox. Once you have chix pox the virus goes dormant but you have it for life...... if it does decide to reactivate it does so in the form of shingles
Is it ok if i take vitamin A and B supliments?
