- This is a well used 8220 Dremel and still works great, this is the first of the cordless Dremel's that actually has a usable amount of power and does not cut out all the time. it has a large spindle bearing and a canned motor but that has little ball bearings not sleeve bearings, the variable speed is also very linear and work well.
The biggest issue is that Dremel is owned by Bosch but does not accept Bosch 12v Max batteries because the batteries have a different bottom portion although you can charge the Dremel batteries in a bosch charger. it really is a shame that they decided to use a different molding for the dremel.
In the next video after this I will show what needs to be done to a bosch battery to fit into this unit.
i wish ryobi batteries would fit in my milwaukee tools
Hello again Catus Maximus and Tiny
Thank you for another Great Video 👍
I have a Dremel and use the loop to hang the motor when I use the flex shaft attachment. Never hang it off my belt although it may be used for that.
I’d like to put that motor in my HO scale locomotive.
My Lionels, too!
I have a Bosch tool very similar to this and I have a bunch of 12v bosch batteries. That's why I don't buy the Dremel one. But the accessories are compatible with Dremel ones.
Please do a review and teardown on Dremel 8260. Thank you very much.
I have used the older cordless dremel with the dial speed control. I only use it when I have to. Otherwise I go for the corded one just because the older cordless bogs bad.
8220 seems to be a huge improvement
Mine, bought in South Africa in Aug 23, was made in Mexico.
The battery thing has never impressed me with those. I bought a HF pnuematic pencil grinder that I have enjoyed using for about 16 years at work. I bought a new version for the house shop but it ain't the same by a longshot! Can't wait to see the mods you do. It may be easier to change the tool to fit the batteries.
Thanks for the video
I have one of the newer models similar to this one (if not this one). I've liked using it, although it is definitely bulky.
I've also had that issue with the loop being incredibly tough to pull out
I've had another issue where occasionally the switch won't turn on the tool. You turn it back off then on again then it will work fine
I've thought about cutting up some of my other Bosch batteries for this tool, just never got to it. And, my Dremel charger crapped out on me, but I was able to use my Bosch and it's just fine
The same company different battery BS reminds me of the roto zip bits. They charge a lot more for the Dremel name, even though they are made by the exact same company
I also noticed that the M12 batteries seem to be quite similar, but the polarity is reversed
Great review, Ty. I don't really use Bosch products. (Known many that became unsatisfied with those tools.) I really like your teardowns in all your reviews. Thanks much.
I just bought the new dremel 8660 brushless rotary tool and you can use the 2AH AND 3AH Bosch batteries in it just not the high capacity batteries like the 6AH.
Not trying to be mean, but do you mean the 8260? Or have they made a newer model?
@@MadeInMinecraft that’s the one. Stubby fingers
The Dremel A8220 comes stock with a LED work light.
Nice video thanks.
Is it possible that variable speed slider has some sort of capacitive sensing going on like in digital calipers? Completely exposed sliding contacts seems like a conspicuous oversight in an otherwise well-designed tool whose application is almost always to generate fine *abrasive* dust and blow it around real good.
That is a valid point I showed inspected more closely to see if they were actually metal sliders
The 8220 gets too freaking hot. I went through 1 warranty repair and then a full replacement and they all overheat drastically.
I then went to its big German Brother... Das Bosch 12v-35 rotary tool, and it's ridiculous how much better it is.
I can slap a 6ah in it, stand it upright, then run it on full power for hours and no issue (except the spindle bearing... but every rotary tool, that goes out quickly.
So if you ever want to step up, order the Bosch from Europe. It looks identical, but cooler. Lol
I’ve had two warranty claims on my 8220. Haven’t used it in a year and when I needed to use it, of course it doesn’t work. Frustrating
✌
why buy the tool knowing the batteries aren't interchangeable without modification and then cry about it just baffles me dude
Yup, buy an Audi A3 and it's a bit of a bitch when the bumper doesn't fit a VW Golf, without significant fettling.
