    Great step by step diagnosis . My 2.8 L 1987 Chevy Celebrity cut out with no warning while driving . I towed it home with a rope . It had spark , fuel pressure and injector pulse . While doing a visual , I noticed a bit of dirt and oil from age near the crank sensor . I unplugged it and cleaned the connector and terminals with brake clean . It started immediately . I didn't notice oil leaking from the sensor . Just a dirty connector . I enjoy the videos . I hope you are doing well , it's been a while .

    That looks like the same engine we have in our cars here in Australia......a GM 3.8 Ecotec. In that case, check the crank angle sensor behind the harmonic balancer. We normally pour a litre of cold water on it & it fires straight up, but eventually it has to be replaced. By the way, you have an M missing on the word Attepts on your opening page!

    This morning, I was troubleshooting a friends 94 GMC 3500 4WD dually dump truck with a turn key no crank and voltage drops to zilch. Seemed like a great opportunity to do some voltage drop diagnosing. Got the monster jacked up enough to get under it (in the dirt), and found a number of bare wires going to the starter (and elsewhere). The insulation had been cooked off over time from proximity to the exhaust manifold. I really wanted to solve this one diagnostically, but decided to back away slowly before it buried me alive.

  • @richard1835

    Cam sensor, Crank Sensor or Ignition module. That's almost always the rough idle or no start problem on a Buick 3800.

  • @frugalprepper
    @frugalprepper Před 4 lety +2

    Think they were screwing around with the ignition wires and coil packs and blew that fuse? How can you be in the auto repair business and not know how to check the CPS on the most produced engine in history. I don't know if the 95 super charged are the same as the the Series 2/3's that I see all the time (I think they are) but if I got no injector pulse or spark, I am going to slide my tpins in the first two wires on either side of the bolt that holds the connector on the ignition control module and have a look at the 18x 3x crank signals. It's so common that I keep a Wells crank sensor on hand in my parts cabinet. These also have a tendency to die when the get hot and stall and then start again after cooling down too.

  • @morecoming
    @morecoming Před 2 lety

    Good job! Im actually going to look at a 95 supercharged Riviera tomorrow.. the dad died , car has been sitting for 3 years.. the son said it will not start but will turn over... not sure but i think he was trying to jump start it.. only has 67k miles .. pristine body and interior..and stored in a building.. was thinking fuel pump or relay. Etc.. but that crank sensor might need a little tap..

    Good video Joe, I knew you would get an old school Buick in to show us!
    I'm curious as to why they called the pump? I mean did they even check the powers and grounds for it? Clearly not, probably hooked up the gauge and had no pressure and the "diagnosis" stopped right there, that's very unfortunate for the customer! Gotta check powers and grounds!
    Great video, I appreciate you sharing your experience with us! Have a great day man!

    • @JoesAutoElectric
      @JoesAutoElectric  Před 5 lety +2

      Thanks Pauly. To answer your question, they have no gauge. Customer said they cranked it and told him the pump is bad. He then told him the ignition lock cylinder is bad, and you see where that went. No clue. No equipment. Grab the money and run. But, the labor rate is cheaper so the guy goes to him first. lol
