Favourite moment in any opera? Probably Brunhilde's aria at the end of Gotterdammarung, where she commits arson and mass murder after going insane and talking to her horse.

I'm glad you guys are back!! It is a little confusing with the characters in this opera! Lol!! Love the production of Salome with Teresa Stratas. If anyone hasn't seen Salome, I recommend watching that one. The best "Dance of the Seven Veils" are in that one too.

Yes, the cinematic production! And thanks, I've always loved opera/classical music since I was very little, thanks to the influence from my dad who played it a lot. I saw my first opera at 8 years old. My biggest dream was to be an opera singer and I studied classically for many years, I ate, slept and breathed it! And loved every minute. ;) That's what it takes though you know? But I ended up never "making it" because I got very ill during my studies and never fully recovered. My passion is still strong as ever though! :)
Norma reveals to the druids that -- gasp -- a virgin druidess vowed to chastity has betrayed her vows with wicked Pollione, the Roman governor. (She means her rival, Adalgisa.) But when they demand the name of the errant priestess she replies, "Tis I.... Prepare the fire." And she and Pollione go to the stake, united at last, though reviled by the horrified peoples of Gaul. Rome falls (eventually).
This, of course, is what gave Wagner the idea for the end of Gotterdamerung. (He loved Norma.)
You forgot to mention that the prisoner in the story is actually John the Baptist. And you shouldn't have downplayed the climax, I mean come on! That's the best part!
agreed, the actually creepy parts are missing. But I still liked it.
