      jesse Summers I have anxiety and my partner has bipolar (both undiagnosed when we met) and we get his all the time :/ my partner is told constantly by people "We all get stressed, you've just gotta get through it, learn your boundaries" and I get told "if you let anxiety get you down, it'll control your life" well thanks for that, I'll just let it all go, I never thought of it like that.

      some of my friends have an elaborate version of this. talk to me during a depressive episode, I warn them beforehand it's not going to fix anything. after like an hour or 2 of talking, they get mad that the depressive isn't somehow magically cured, and tell me I'm not listening to them. like the effort is there, just. some people just don't get it I guess.

      This will sound completely out of left field, but I have a definite feeling - and experience - that we should all be checked for upper cervical instability. I've been forced to discover I have this thing, and one of the things it does is it pushes on your brain stem, and vagus nerve, and both of these things-combined definitely - respectively, here that's how I'll say it - the first one among other things causes a lot of extraneous extra signals, while both essentially cause instant hysteria. And also paralyze your autonomic nervous system btw! which also makes your brain go into fight or flight. Which apps with your digestion and sleep and therefore ability to exercise! Which means your scalp is neglecting to moisturize itself, which also means that your hair will start to dry out! - causing you to literally lose hair - especially if your body solution to having just enough energy to drive you insane, but not enough that you can actually do anything with it

    • @alexae1367
      @alexae1367 Před 2 lety

      Anyway, so the funny thing, is if we were able to feel like whoever is saying this was actually saying it out of love-it's just at this upper cervical displacement thing literally causes an amount of mental health wise driving me insane if I'm not prepared for the headache - that is not extraneous to my mind, really at all. So just get in that sense I've found, absolutely for sure, if my partner was to ask me if my neck was doing all right - if we were having a problem - I could probably tell them no, actually it isn't.
      The problem is that, psychologically, and I actually learned this in an actual textbook in an actual University psychology class, that when one person is distraught, the other person tends to feel more secure automatically hi, it's just part of how people essentially share psychological states - your poor mood is likely to feel repellent to them.
      So unless you're really perfectly able to manage it with them, right when you're most likely to be able to be fixed mood-wise by a cuddle, is when they're least likely to be in the mood to have one with you.
      Which might not even mean they're feeling unsympathetic as much as they are just induced almost chemically to firm up under the pressure.

    • @trude8073
      @trude8073 Před 4 lety +10

      Sarah Kamille huh? I've had this disorder for 18 years and never once have I heard that "thinking I'm the only one having bipolar emotion" is a symptom, and one of the reasons why is because "bipolar" isn't an emotion. It's a MOOD disorder. Emotions can change in a minute, angry, sad, happy.. That are emotions, and going from happy to sad in a minute/day/whatever isn't a "bipolar emotion" because those does not exist. They are the opposite emotions, that's very much true, but bipolar doesn't have anything to do with it. Mood and emotions are not the same. If someone has "bipolar moods" from time to time it means they are either depressed or manic, which people can be, but being "manic" as in having a lot of energy one day or a few days to updo your kitchen, it doesn't make it an manic episode. I just don't get the logic behind what you're trying to say.

I get that being depressed is out of your control and you can't just simply be happy, but when it comes to vandalizing school property or doing things you aren't supposed to do, or not doing things you're supposed to do and saying, "Oh it's because of my bipolar disorder, not my fault." You are always going to be held responsible for your actions and there will always be consequences. It's annoying, seriously.

His work colleagues used to ask him it all the time, so he got a calendar for his office and put a giant tick everyday which meant he took his meds, so when someone asked him he would say "The calendar says I have, so you must just be a douche today" :)

      I really wanted to write this somewhere where people would see it. I would never say that this is a root cause for everyone's problems, but it definitely could help some people out there, so I wanted to share it! GLUTEN was causing me extreme suicidal depression, extreme mood swings and very high anxiety. I could no longer function at all because I was in so much emotional pain, so I ended up spending my time fantasizing about the different ways that I could kill myself for the last few months before moving home when I figured out what was wrong! These symptoms popped up about 2 years ago. 10 months ago I moved back home, forfeited my life as an adult in another city because I was on deaths door and I needed to fix myself. 8 months ago I went vegan, but luckily I went raw vegan for the first 32 days, completely raw. I felt simply amazing, like I was floating and could finally breath again! When I started to add cooked vegan food in, including bread, my symptoms came right back. My mother's homemade vegan bread was making me suicidal over night! I have now been strictly gluten free for over 6 months and have been stable and back to my happy self! I have no idea what caused my gluten sensitivity because I do not have celiac disease, but I have learned a lot in my research! Only 1% of the population has celiac, but 30% of the population has a gluten sensitivity. 70% of people have the gluten sensitive gene and it can turn on at any moment. Gluten sensitivity can be linked to depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bipolar, schizophrenia, ADHD, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis and various mood disorders. Now like I said it is not going to be 100% of the underlying cause for everyone, but what I do recommend for everyone struggling is to go strictly gluten free for at least 2 weeks. Our societies eat gluten at almost every meal now and we take no breaks from it to see if it is causing any of these problems. In the 70's they used to call it bread madness! Now we know it is the gluten. Gluten is a protein and your body will create antibodies to attack it and get it out of the body but these antibodies get confused and attack our own body as well in the process! I will never eat gluten ever again because one piece of bread, a brownie or cookie could literally be the death of me. It makes me that crazy! I am sharing my story in hopes of helping someone! I am 29 years old and loved bread my whole life. Please try going gluten free to see if that gene has been turned on somehow! I have much love for anyone struggling!

    • @themightycarrotknight
      @themightycarrotknight Před 6 lety +4

      Dalton JWelch Sorry, but that’s just nonsense. Depression and anxiety is so complex. They can be different depending on the person. Like, if you have depression you may not be able to get out of bed, to do simple tasks, to sleep, to be happy, to concentrate etc but that doesn’t mean that everyone experiences it the same way. There are people with depression who can laugh, who can eat normally, who can sleep, who can concentrate. Like I said it depends on the person. And anxiety is another thing. When people hear anxiety they usually think of panic attacks. And yes, some people with anxiety have to go through panic attacks. But in general you can say that people with anxiety tend to worry a lot, to overthink a lot, to get stressed in specific situations etc. But again IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON.
      (I can only speak from my point of view btw.)

      ***** It's a good thing that many celebs, including Fry, have talked about their bipolar disorder.
      Fry has cyclothymia, the mild form of bipolar.
      Bipolar disorder is much ore common among professional entertainers than among the general population, so you could argue that, in a way, it's an asset for them.
      For people who aren't talented, bipolar is a mental disability.

    As someone who has bipolar disorder, I have been asked about whether I've taken my meds countless times & it's extremely offensive! If I'm really happy & in a great mood, people assume that I'm manic. If I'm feeling down or depressed, people assume that I'm off of my meds. If you want to help someone who has bipolar disorder, stop assuming & ask how you can help! And please, unless you're our doctor or therapist, stop asking about our medications. It's really none of your business, in all due respect. Unless we choose to share it with you, don't bring it up. Thanks for reading! Thanks for this informative video.

After reading about 7 different books and online articles she suddenly decides to diagnose herself as bipolar, despite doctors that have tested her and confirmed she doesn’t have bipolar disorder -3- I stopped talking to her and so did one of her younger sisters and my mum, because bipolar disorder isn’t something to fake and it’s not at all okay. As someone with bipolar disorder, here are my responses:
    *I'm a bit bipolar sometimes*
    I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I completely flipped out on someone once because they kept saying "oh stop being so bipolar" to a girl who absolutely hated their guts so she'd go from being super sweet so cold/uncaring in seconds. I try my best not to say anything now, especially about me being bipolar. I've also gotten super annoyed when people post stuff like "I can go through 5 moods in 10 minutes. I'm so bipolar." And I was complaining about it to my mother and her response was something along the lines of "That's what bipolar disorder is. The constant mood swings." And I was just like "um, alrighty then."
    *Have you taken your meds?*
    Oh, man. I love when people tell me this one. I'm not on medication for it, so how exactly am I supposed to take what I don't even have in the first place?
    *Oh, like Stephen Fry?*
    Should I be glad that I don't know who this is? I don't have an answer for this one.
    *Cheer up*
    I've never been told this one, so I suppose I'm lucky in that sense.
    *Have you tried to commit suicide?*
    I'm so glad that I haven't been asked this by someone other than me primary doctor, therapist, and psychiatrist. Honestly, this is a super triggering topic for me. (Ngl, I started shaking really badly after reading this and while writing this response)
    *If you could get it cured, would you?*
    Honestly, I wouldn't. Sure, I don't like the episodes. But, idk. I feel like I wouldn't feel like myself if I didn't have it? If that makes any sense. I've just been dealing with it for so long (~5 to 6 years) so it's just become my "normal".
    *What should I say?*
    Honestly, I don't even know what to say to this one. I guess say that you'll be there for me? Even though I'd probably never come to you to talk about the problems is causes me. Oh, and definitely don't joke about being bipolar. Also, understand that it isn't really something I can control. I can't just be like "Yup, I'm tired of having a depressive episode, so I'm just going to stop having one now." and it stops. That isn't how it works (obviously). This is a personal one, but don't be like "oh, you're lying." when I say that I have times where I immediately switch from episodes and can even have a weird bit of time where I'm having both. Don't try to tell me what to do to "figure it out". You're not my therapist. I've also had people get MAD at me when I asked them not to be touchy with me while I'm in the middle of the episode because physical contact really bothers me during them. So, please, don't get mad when I ask you not to do something. It's because I'd rather not have a panic attack due to something you've done. And definitely DON'T try to touch me more if I do have a panic attack due to being overwhelmed from physical contact. (I once had a friend, who likes me romantically, stay at my house for a couple of days. She was constantly trying to cuddle with me and wouldn't listen to me when I asked her to stop and give me some space since I don't even like people being super close to me. I was going through a really bad depressive episode during this time. I won't go into the details, but someone I knew died. With depression and bipolar deciding to come together and make a cocktail from The Underworld, I was going through a really rough time. She got mad at me and even asked to go home early because I snapped at her when she caused me to have a panic attack and tried to touch me more during it.) Anyways, this part is super long, so I'm cutting it off here. I have so much more I could say, but this isn't the place for that. I'll save it for my therapist so those of you reading this don't have to deal with me rambling on and on.

    It's hard watching someone you love go through that. My husband is bipolar. His moods could give you whiplash if he's forgotten his medicine, so when I ask "Did you take your meds?" during an argument I assure you it's a valid concern. The friggin doctor at one point even had him on an anti-psychotic, a mood leveler, AND an anti-depressant all at once. He was practically a zombie. Now he's just on Cymbalta but I hate it because of the havoc it wreaks on his body and mind until he can get acclimated to it. Don't ever run out of it either, because it can cause the mood swings to be even worse as it leaves the system. He was never abusive, but he would be full of rage when he was withdrawing.
    And no one ever talks about the non-emotional aspects of it like mental fogs, being easily overwhelmed by too much stimuli, cycles of not being able to sleep for days, then switching to not being able to stay awake for days. Even paranoia. He was frequently convinced he was having a heart attack. at one point he thought he was actively dying and sobbed while I dialed 911. He kept saying "I don't want you to see me die".

    I find it odd that many of them don't want it cured. Isn't it a horrible thing to suffer from? Also, if that's the case, why are people getting treatment for it, if they don't want it cured?
    I've had type 1 diabetes for 12 years, since I was 14. The condition is fatal without treatment, and it reduces one's life expectency by ~10 years on average, often with significant disability in your last decades of your life, depending on how long you've had it and personal situation.
    I've had it almost half my life, and it affects every aspect of my life, all from what I eat, how much I eat, how far from home I can go without significant preparation, when to sleep, how long I can go without food, and being aware of not runninng out of insulin in an inopportune time without suffering significant and dangerous health problems.
    This obviously has affected me greatly and has shaped basically every aspect of my life and personality since age 14, I would still want it cured in a heartbeat. Because, WHY would you want to live like this??
    Yes, it will be strange to start with, and I would feel naked without my insulin pump, and I would still be paranoid about going to sleep without checking my bloodsugar, miss seeing my great doctors, just eating like a normal person etc.
    But do you need to identify AS your illness? I think that's where the problem lies with many of these people. Of course you have been changed as a person because of your illness, but you can continue your personal growth in the future as a person that HAS been changed by your illness and now living without it. Isn't that good enough?

    I'm not bipolar, so please feel free to correct my ignorance. I don't see a problem with asking a loved one if they have taken their medication. I have a mother who has a diagnosed schizophrenic/generalized panic/anxiety disorder. I realize that is a lot of things, but she has so many diagnoses from different doctors, it can be a little hard to discern what is truth, and what isn't. Nonetheless, when she is having a freakout (I call it that not to be rude, I just don't know which of the three she's having a lot of times, whether it be a an anxiety or panic attack, or if she's having an intense delusion, which causes a panic attack, it's all very confusing) I ask her if she has taken her medication. I would hesitate before, because of fear that it would hurt her feelings, but now I ask her point blank. This is because I don't want to beat around the bush and try and help if there is nothing I can do to soothe her anyway. So is that wrong to do? Or is there a better way to phrase it so that way I'm not unintentionally hurting her feelings. Please let me know, I don't want to hurt my moms feelings if I don't have to.

An intern in the emergency room opened my file and stated, "Oh, she's just bipolar." He didn't read further to see it was my 2nd attack in 3 months. I would have died had my cardiologist not walked in. My point is pls listen. Just because someone is bipolar doesn't mean they're not having a real medical issue. Also, with the panic attacks I get told to just calm down or during a disagreement my PTSD gets thrown in my face.
