This Indian village budgets every drop of water

  • When most of Maharashtra is faced with drought, this tiny village called Kumbharwadi in Ahmednagar district Maharastra is water sufficient. This was because in 2015 they had started a programme to budget their water resources. Every drop of water that falls on the ground is measured and accounted for. They were guided by a Pune based civil society think tank called Watershed Organisation Trust.

    This is wonderful! Congratulations to these villagers and I hope they become an example to follow for their neighboring villages. India, and Maharashtra, are in great need for watershed projects. But budgeting water is an excellent way for controlling actual usage and for avoiding wastage. Clearly a lot of effort gone into this!

    what a fantastic initiative. Congrats to the vollage and the Water Shed Trust. We need the adoption of this water management system to go Pan India.

    Looks ok on video but I visited the area, felt like the 50's still a lot to catchup and its 2020.

    This project should be endorsed in national leve by GOI . Such an important project of water budgeting. Our PM should address this WATER project.

    Please add Jal Khet as major part of water shed management. Where farmers dig 5-10% converters it's land to lake. Use this lake water for farming. It's better than borwell
