I honestly feel this scene perfectly demonstrates the difference between book Uhtred and show Uhtred. In this scene Ubba is obviously dominating and controlling the entire battle, only losing due to a rookie's mistake that smells of plot armour. In the books Uhtred and Ubba... are evenly matched. We actually get a very vivid description of Uhtred finding out that not only is he calm during battle, but he absolutely loves every second of it. He realizes he's one of those "1/100 who love battle people." And we see both of them fighting on even footing. Uhtred is also described as tall and muscular in the books by this point, as he's spent time rowing oars and gained muscle mass from it. So how does Uhtred win? Ubba steps in entrails from a previous opponent, loses his footing and Uhtred pounces, stabbing him, watching him die, taking his battle axe and putting it in Ubba's hand. We're specifically told that Uhtred holds down fingers around the axe to make sure Ubba doesn't drop it at the last moment. In a weird way it's even more respect than we see here, which is weird since Uhtred is a bigger dick in the books. Show Ubba's got nothing in him. The man's got a temper.

It’s also at the end of an actual battle. Not a duel, this was uhtreds first shield wall and was a big moment for his character, previously being untested in a true shield wall. Also the fact that they’re both wearing shirts. In the show uhtred literally never wears mail, annoys the hell out of me

@@Dabby3 i did that too with the lord of the rings
Differs from the book, but cheaper to shoot, I imagine.
i jumped to one of the lasts book in the series, and the book is much better, but seeing it on screen is a delight. They can,t put on screen everything, they must adapt and compress. But i would love to see on screen also the 3 books written by Cornwell, the ones with Lord Derfell and Arthur...i think they would be so good on screen! And the author has a very unique style with a beautiful imagination.Anyway,i think that this was a good scene, and i am sorry that one of my favorite characters died on the comfrontation with that ugly warlord...
I watched Vikings so I have to love Ubba😂
Are they the same ubba/ubbe?
