Thank you so much for making this video! I'm limited in my PC building knowledge, and this video was beautiful for tying together what all these specs mean and performance trade-offs. This video was awesome and I learned so much! I also greatly appreciate how share what's needed for good gaming, as it's overwhelming with all these boards that are more expensive with bells & whistles, if you just want to have a great gaming PC and don't care about the fancy RGB lights. I see other videos by you for PC building, I'm looking forward to learning from those!

I can show how a MB compared in every way is 10% spec'd faster but in 4k gaming that would come to 1FPS, so why did the 10% matter. It Didn't.

*Corrections: 1) I refer to Z790 having a better memory "controller" but that term is incorrect. Z790 improvements are to trace/topology/shielding. 2) The ASRock Riptide Z690M has 2 M.2 slots, not 1. 3) Removed ITX recommendation due to an issue with that board, alternate linked in description.*

This is coming from someone who has been on this platform for a WHILE at this point,I had an i9-12900ks and now an i9-13900k and Raptor lake is still on the 1700 socket/the Z790 uses the 1700 socket as well, this is just something that needs to be thought about/talked about.
The real issue is,I think AMD is falling behind, YES they have 3D CPUs and MUCH better optimization, but their JUST getting DDR5 RAM and their JUST catching up at the end of a generation/the Meteor Lake platform/1851 socket,MAY come out SOON/the i9-14900ks, will most likely be released on the meteor lake platform/1851 socket.
I think this is something people NEED to be thinking about, IF your planning on investing in Raptor Lake/Z790 boards/the meteor lake platform/the 1851 socket MAY be right around the corner,if you ALREADY own an alder lake board/an i9-12900k/ks,go ahead and get an i9-13900k,I don't think thats a bad idea, but investing in Alder Lake/Raptor Lake, this late in its life cycle, isn't necessarily a great idea/again most likely the i9-14900ks,will not be on Raptor Lake/the 1,700 socket and it will be on the meteor lake platform/the 1851 socket.
To put this in prospective and I know this isn't the entire story/power/pin count isn't everything, but it does mean A LOT,more pins equals more power and more surface area, surface area allows for more cores and more pins allow you to power those cores/you won't have as many power restraints, this isn't the whole picture, but this is DEFINITELY something to think about, Kaby Lake, which came out in 2016 had 1,151 pins and AM4,that came out in 2016 had 1,331 pins,Alder Lake/Raptor Lake have 1,700 pins, AM5 has 1,718 pins and Meteor Lake has 1,851 pins, like I said pin count doesn't mean everything and it MAY be something AMD can work through with optimization, time will tell, but this is something that NEEDs to be brought up/at least looked at/observed.

From what I assume you want to partner a ultra fast ddr5 ram with the build, then definitely go with a z790 mobo is more stable, if you like MSI I would recommend z790 carbon. Force is kind of in a weird place, it's more expensive than edge but has less feature than a meg board like ace or unify. If you want white cosmetics, strix-a or m14 formula are better choice. Other than that 13900k not a great overclock cpu, but if you definitely want supreme overclock I think maximus hero is better.

I'm going for 1440p gaming mostly but I do plan on playing some more open world/sim games in the future. I have a budget of about $1200. Do you think going the AMD route with either the 5600X(5700X if I go with a slightly cheaper motherboard) or an Intel 12th gen would be the better option? I don't care about overclocking. I'm leaning slightly to an AMD system because the b550 boards just seem to have everything I need with good audio for cheaper than the Intel boards. Just wanted to get your take on it.

5600X is roughly on par with the 12600K in gaming with slightly cheaper motherboards (though as you can see, Z690 has gotten much cheaper). For tighter budgets I'd go 5600X (or even just the 5600 to save money) and throw the savings into a faster GPU. Good luck on the build!

I intended to buy an Asus Maximus Z790 Hero, but now, given their recent quality-control failures, I'm not so sure anymore. I want 96 GB of memory for creative applications, preferably at a high speed, so I'm looking at G.Skill's set at 6400 MHz & CL32, but not many Z790 ATX motherboards support this combination of capacity and speed. If I avoid Asus boards, my choice seems to be either MSI Carbon/Edge/Tomahawk or the Asrock Riptide; apparently no Gigabyte board supports 6400 MHz CL32 at 96 GB currently.
I'm willing to pay a couple hundred bucks extra for added reliability, since I can't afford to have the motherboard fry any of the components, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much data on failure rates. I wish there were more statistics on this so consumers could make a more informed decision.

If i have my XMP memory profile enabled 6000 DDR5 ram, and 12900K overclocking enabled using ASUS AiOC overclocking BIOS features and I ALSO have resizable-BAR enabled...I get crashes in my game,,,, If I turn Re-SIZABLE-bar off, I don't get the crashes even though I have still have XMP enabled and AiOC enabled (ASUS overclocking on the 12900K in the ASUS ami bios)? Any ideas ???

Great video. Checked out reviews for 13th gen, and I think that Intel has reached a bit of a crossroads for their CPUs.
Despite large boosts in core count in 13th gen thanks to the extra E cores, Intel could not always best AMD in multithreading, especially vs R9 7950X. Notable are workloads that benefit from AVX512, which Intel does not support because the E core architecture doesn't support those instructions, and AMD took wins in said workloads. So simply throwing more E cores at the multithreading problem is not always the best solution.
Clearly hybrid processors must be designed carefully, with the right balance of P and E cores, as well as make sure the two core designs support all the same instructions. (AMD actually teased this when they revealed Zen4, as the mentioned Zen4c, a E-core-esque version of Zen4 that still supports all of the same instructions, clearly a shot at Intel)

both take trades, but intel other offerings just blowed AMD out of the water, especially in pricing, the 13600k being a 320usd chip beating the 7700x in MT workloads by quite a margin, and the 13700k getting close or par to the 7900x while being quite noticeable cheaper and much easier to cool than the i9 13900k, and thats without tunning.
hybrid processors are the way in all honestly, especially with shrinking nodes, apple and intel are in the trend, and amd will hop in later just like intel is implementing 3D chips on meteor lake.

Not just for gaming, but also quality music listening sessions (M4A, FLAC, and CD's) and I'll never go back to onboard mobo audio again.
