    • @RittenhousePsych
      @RittenhousePsych  Před rokem +7

      Thank you for sharing. Because prozac has a very long half life, it CAN be taken every other day, when tapering . This is not an uncommon recommendation by psychiatrists. It's important to continue to discuss directly with your provider, but in general, I would not be surprised to hear that a provider recommended every other day dosing, in this kind of situation. Best, - Dr. Pagnani

    This depressed me that it will take longer for prozac to work….since it has a long half life shouldn’t it be faster ?I’ve been on 5 mg for decades and due to losing mom, I just increased to 10 mg 11 days ago and was hoping it would have good benefit in 2-3 weeks ? For anxiety and panic

    • @RittenhousePsych
      @RittenhousePsych  Před rokem +3

      Thank you for your comment, and great question. Some of the effects of increasing this medication can be felt quickly. The full effect of a change, does often take longer than some medications with shorter half lives. The reason for this, is that full effect is typically achieved about 4-6 weeks after you reach a full concentration in your body. The longer the half life, the longer it takes to get to a full concentration. Again, I do not mean to discourage you, and patients often do start to feel positive effects after an increase, within a couple of weeks. Please be sure to speak directly with your provider if you have worsening of symptoms. Sincerely, - Dr. Pagnani

    Once the plan is in motion, I will not tolerate any of my medicines ever being messed with. If a doctor does not want to prescribe me fluoxetine, he/she should say so, rather than writing me a fake prescription. Once the plan is in motion, I will be taking 20mg of fluoxetine per day for depression, anxiety, and binge eating disorder. Whatever side effects the medicine may cause is the trade-off that I am choosing to make. I am legally entitled to make such a choice for myself since I am an adult.

      I've been on prozac /fluoxetine 3 times over 10 years.
      The first time I took it , the Dr gave me benzos "diazepam " for anxiety for the first 3 weeks, after that it was like The sun came out and i could finally breath again and everything wasn't all gray,
      The second time the Dr gave me prozac he didn't give me any anti anxiety medication "diazepam "
      I felt 100x worse for 4 weeks it was HELL until the prozac worked. I'm glad I stuck to taking the tablets as when they start working they work VERY well.
      For some people it can take upto 10 weeks to work.
      Don't write prozac off until you have given it at least 8 weeks to work.
      I hope anyone reading this gets better soon 🙏🏾
