  • If you are in search of a blue fountain pen ink, someone will almost certainly recommend Noodler's Baystate Blue ( amzn.to/37Ea5Q1 ) fountain pen ink to you. This ink offers a nice pop of color, but it's a serious pain to clean, and I really don't like the container.

    Because of it's unusual formula the secret to cleaning this ink off of stuff is actually bleach, but obviously one should be very careful and use low concentrations. Also, "pen flush" generally contains ammonia, which will create a toxic gas when mixed with bleach, so don't do that either. If you want it off of your hands, hand-sanitizer works for whatever reason and sufficiently strong rubbing alcohol can get it out of a countertop, cause yeah, those bottles sure are super full.

      Very true ! Just would like to add, to remove the ink from your fingers, Scotch brite + dish washing liquid would do the trick. Whatever said,this is a beautiful,well behaved, waterproof blue ink that does not dry out easily,minimal feathering & works everytime ! Keep a/a few dedicated pens for this ink.

    My favorite fountain pen ink for the past 7 years. I use it in a Twisbi Vac 700 with a 1.1 mm stub nib. Awesome combination.

    If Baystate Blue would not feather, it would be my favorite royal blue ink. It behaves better on the nicer papers, of course, but at work I just have standard cruddy copy paper to use. And yes, the tall bottle filled to the rim is awkward (and not very attractive) in my opinion.

    I like this ink. Not to write with it but because I bought really cheaply 2 Sheaffer Snorchels that somebody gummed up with Baystate Blue. So I like this ink and hope more people would use it.

    I really do appreciate the waterproof characteristics, which are somewhat less common in blues than black or blue-black inks. Not a super fan of royal blues but it is a nice ink

    Baystate Blue is one of my favorite blue colors. I've used it off and on for years. I echo your comments, i.e. it stains everything it touches. I've had a few gaffs with it, including ruining one pen because I let it sit too long without using it - permanently gummed up the feed. It's one of those inks I come back to every so often just for the color, nothing quite like it.
    Thanks for the video.

      Hey. Thanks for the commet. I have had the feed gummed up too, how can I clean it?

    • @JerryFahrni
      @JerryFahrni Před rokem +1

      @@JoseVelasquez-pw6mk I've heard you can clean the feed with bleach. I've tried everything. Nothing worked and I ended of buying a completely new feed section. Cost nearly as much as the pen. Sorry I don't have better news.

      @@JerryFahrni Thanks. Same here, had to purchase a new feed...what a shame for this ink cause is really a nice color but won´t risk anymore pens.

    Great video, thank you. I fell in love with this ink years ago, but love turned to disappointment because it gummed up almost every pen that I put it in. It seemed to me that the cheaper the pen the better it faired. It works well in my Platinum Plasir, but even better in that unknown brand of fountain pen sold by Sherpa for insertion into the Sherpa pen covers. It is known as an "extremely saturated ink". The next level down would be "highly saturated", like J.Herbin 1678 Crimson. And if you get them on your clothes, just throw them away. Because if you put them in the washing machine, they may leave a residue behind, which will tint your whites. I wear latex or nitrile gloves, and use a safety box, (an Bible box lid lined with plastic, and layered with 📰 newspaper, or something comparable), and I wear an old shirt as a smock, whenever I handle this ink. I've learned my lesson the hard way!

      Great comment! Highly saturated is a good way to put it. I'll try 1678 Crimson, not a J Herbin that I've tried yet. Thanks

    Many choose to dedicate an inexpensive pen to BSB. That's the best way to avoid the potential mess when cleaning (don't clean it). If you put it in an opaque pen, like a Metropolitain or an x750, where you can't see the insides, you won't see any of the staining. For me it is worth it to get to use the brightest ink in the world.

    • @unsharpen
      @unsharpen  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah, I won't go with anything more expensive than this Platinum Balance. This is an ideal ink for a Preppy

    Might want to mention this ink does not play well with other inks. There's a warning about that on the bottle.

    I love this in my extra fine kakuno. Makes it readable and doesn’t feather on cheap crappy spirals

      You need to try a FP cleaner or a pen flush in order to break through this stuff. You can buy one or try something like unsharpen.com/how-to-make-pen-flush/

    What? Permanent ink on hand? You don’t wash yourself or what? It’s ridiculous. Of course it can be washed off quite easily, nothing unusual regarding to other inks, really.
