God, the SuperSeed animators all deserve medals. This is such a gorgeously animated game.

This game deserves more attention with the story on Hold to find their MOM at the MOM News Station in Lalybad
I like how the Abe and his friends are constantly scared or confused, it really helps selling the fact they're not heroes.
They don't know what they're doing, and that makes them weary about the next step. Because they just escaped slavery, and the thought of going back to it is constantly haunting them.
I think they are still heroes, they’re just the slightly underpowered type of hero.
They're not underpowered, the Good Ending says it all, Abe's power is unlocked and the Slids get toasted on the way in.
But like I said, Abe doesn't know how to use it. He's scared and confused, and after meeting the Keepers, things get way worse. He may look like the hero of the story, but to himself, he's not a hero, he's just another worker who managed to be lucky enough to escape the factory.
Fr that's what keeps me coming back. How does something so fearful and panicked keep it together long enough to make it through this nightmare? Type stuff.
They are irl actual heroes who rise up to the occasion and keep on going despite their fears
I think them being scared, unsure, & confused doesn’t detract from their heroism, but add to their sophontcy.
I like that line in the middle of the second column of the newspaper at 1:04:23 that says "So what's it gonna be tomorrow, aliens?". It's a little reminder that, despite the fact that the people of Oddworld were obviously designed to look like what we would call "space aliens" (What with the big heads, bulging eyes, and different amounts of limbs and digits), there isn't any actual "space travel" in Oddworld; so the concept of "space aliens" is as wild to them as it is to us.
I watched a few episodes from a series named the 'Orville', so this concept aint that much of a farfetched scenario for developing worlds like Oddworld!

@@johantorres8105 You're missing the point entirely. I'm saying that the idea of space aliens being real is as ludicrous for the various peoples of Oddworld as it is for us on Earth. To us, space aliens are pure science fiction; but the same is true of space aliens to Mudokons, Glukkons, Sligs, etc.

58:06 is my favorite scene in the whole game. It was awesome to see the Sligs get a genuine win on their own. I made the same gesture when they secured their deal.
I mean, I get we're not supposed to like the Sligs, but the stories displayed them as a slave race similar to the Mudokons.
Sligs are so charming in their own dumb way you cant help but like them, even if they're the thugs of the antagonists
I do think we were absolutely supposed to like the Sligs.
Slugs are as much as slaves as the Muddokin, because the Slig were essentially drafted into servitude since birth and forced to be mutilated in the process. However due to their sadistic nature they love serving the Glukkons because they give them weapons and other creatures fire upon them. Still Slugs can be as greedy as Glukkons and from what can you see if you cross a Slig, better prey he isn't with backup

It's a gorgeous game. But Oddysee and Exxodous, considering they were from the 90's are beautiful.
I like how mullock takes a major L regardless of the ending. in one path he is forced to being a group of soldiers to a private island (with the only real W for him being that he is forgotten about) and in the other he is a "on the run" convict living on a paradise island with a mouthy idiot of a subordinate.
Also funny that Abe and Mullock both need each other to win. Kwarma is a funny mistress.

Been playing these games since I was a kid. Still can't get over how great all these cutscenes are and how the dark story a lines its self with our own world...

What Abe so on that Pillar when he puts his hands on those tablets, os quite disturbing...
For those who dont know (spoilers ahead by the way).
In the past both Muddokins and Glukken were allies, and both share a deep spiritual connection to nature and to one another. However all changed when they notice that one of the moons had creaters resembling the Mudokkin hand print, and aince then the Muddokins called themselves the "Chosen Race", which anger the Glukken and their evolutionary cousins, because since that day they two races stop being equals. In fact the Glukken and his evolutionary cousins left the Muddokin lands and hid themselves in deep dark caves just so they never saw the moon nor the Muddokin again.
In those caves the Glukken and their cousins dwelved in dark magic and they eventually developed technology.
With the development of Technology the Glukken aroae from their caves and devolp their civilizations, which lead to trading with other races susch as Vaykkers and the Cluckerz. Eventually they also meet the barely sentient Sligs who where weak and cowarly races that barely survived in the swamps, but had a sadistic mentality when forced to defend thmselves. So the Glukken saw in them a useful force, thus they tricked the Slig Queen and began to shower her with riches and technology and in exchange she will give her young ones to be mutilated and brainwashed into becoming the Glukkens military enforcers.
After that they decided to take revenge on the Muddokins, but not in the way you think. They arrieved in peace in attempt to onve again by friends, rhus rhe gave many gifts to the Muddokins, even though some were still to arrogant or question their old allies motives, most accepted the gifts with Glee. In time the Muddokins startted to become too dependant on the Glukken and this one startted to demand payment for their products, so the Muddokin gave away all their riches, then all their land. Eventually rhe Muddokin had nothing to give as payment for more technology, thus the Glukken convinced them to work for them to be paid and thua buy more of their products, and thats when the teap was set... The Muddokin were then enslaved, and the Muddokin Queen forced to breed more and more Muddokins to be born as slaves and to forever work in factories, all while their ancestral homea and culture were deatroyed with great joy by the Glukken with the excuse to create more factories to supply more demands for their products.
The great shame of the Muddokin is that they sold themselves into slavery.
Thst why the keeper says to Abe rhat her firgive them, for all the pain their anceatora cost their descendants.
This game's storytelling and animation soar so high above expectations for the genre, it's amazing.

Btw in original series after Abe's Exodus(Original that Soulstorm based on) goes Munch's Oddysey in which Abe gaines as ally in form of Latamire Much The Last Gabbit of Oddworld(basically an oddworld half-fish, half-amphibia) and last part of the game is about Munch and Abe saving eggs of each other species(to be exact the last can of Gabbiar and Mudokons eggs). The thing is it is possible that the next game(if developers will make Munch's Oddyssey a triquel) might feature Mudokon's Queen. Probably not RFR(Rupture Farms Refugees) mother, but still!

There are sections where you have to save fleeing/injured allies. I think the karma system in this game is dependent on your drive to save them/spend time searching for them

But the game is fun to play and is so beautiful, the amount of work out in the game shows up ( besides the bugs at launch but most of them where fixed). I watched a yt video on why soulstorm is so controversial, exoddus took what oddysee had and just expanded it, where soulstorm added new features and didn't just make old ones bigger. It does feel a bit much when you look at the first great games but soulstorm overall is fun to play. Yes it's not as good as the classic ps1 games. And I do miss the scrabs and paramites, but it's still a good game.

All people i hear, know and loved the first 2 or 4 games also dislike/hate this game so its definetly not a experience that only i have. But yeah glad we had the first great games back in the great 90s and i better just keap with these memorys and stop hoping. forget about this and dont waste any more time on this one and future oddworld projects.
I think the game engine is what killed this one for me. Initial bugs aside, its so frustrating to play compared to the originals tight controls. I'm sad that i had to watch the cutscenes on youtube to find out the story. I refuse to play the game because it should be fun and not overwhelmingly infuriating.
If they keep with the engine and this type of gameplay.. then i wish they'd just scrap it all and make movies of the story progression.
