Have you ever thought about moving the laundry room upstairs ?
It would make doing laundry a lot easier, then to run everything down one or two levels. You could take a portion out of your proposed master ensuite with access reached from the hallway. I believe it would put it next to the stairs, so bringing bedding down to wash after having guests up on the next floor easier.

@@Ruth-uj1dm I think she has a good idea, but having somebody help you often doesn't work. It's often the case that other people just can't make the decisions that are right for you. I'd say that applies to discarding and giving away. Helping you clean something is a different matter, or do a chore like scraping paint.

Basically, you have a house that has been fiddled with each time someone had a brainstorm! I call it "building by committee".
I do have one suggestion. Take all that nice material and put it in plastic tubs to keep it safe from mice, moths, spiders etc. Either that, or donate it to a charity shop and take it off your taxes. Once the critters get to it, you'll have to throw it out. Bummer!

You mentioned you'd considered keeping a couple of rooms on the first floor as bedrooms for potential guests who might not be too handy with multiple flights of stairs. As someone with two knackered knees, can I say what a thoroughly spiffing idea that is! The corner room and the 'secret' room (with a new door opposite the one into the corner room) would do the trick nicely, and they could share the bathroom between them.

Phill suggestion. Cheateu owners who do crafts are Vivienne from Cheatue Love, Sara from Maker, and Manor loves to sew curtins and make headboards and foot boards with materials, Micheal Pethrick sews and does crafts and curtins, and Stephanie Jarvis and Phillip sew. Any of those might be willing to make you an offer to help clear in the secret room. All crafty people and any of them could teach you how to sew on a machine it is pretty easy. Oh, one more name, Jenny Moon of the Moons Nick & Jen. Jen has a bear restoration business and sews and does crafts with kids. One of Billy and Ryan's friends.

Wow, please be sure to find a new home for all of the sewing items. It looks like a nice machine and there is probably a ton of really cool sewing notions and fabric. If you have a friend that sews, that is where to start. Also people are actually looking for and pay good money for those bathroom tiles ( someday when you get that far). A good salvager could carefully remove them for you. Personally, I'd keep the bathroom and restore it. Well honestly I'd keep the sewing room too since I sew and do other crafts. It's just such a neat area for artistic endeavors. Put wall paper on the staircase wall and hide the entrance again. My head is spinning with ideas lol. Thanks for sharing đŸ˜Šâ€â€

Yeah, that layout is a hot mess. I would get rid of that janky bathroom and open up the 'media room' into that space, like you said. Then the entrance to what is now the 'secret room' could just be the door that was from the bathroom. Then you could close up the doorway on the stairway and eliminate the stairs that are inside the 'secret room'. Making that room easier to access will make it much more useful, even if it remains a storage room. You clearly don't need a second bathroom on the first floor, so just getting rid of that one completely will give you a lot more options with regard to how you can use those spaces. Down the line you can think about reworking the stairway and whatnot, but for now, just getting rid of that bathroom and opening up that space would give you a lot of benefit for the effort spent.

Hey Phil! Interesting video as usual! Quick question though! ... have you ever thought about getting the original floor plans for the chateau & maybe, based on that, fix that staircase back to however it was in the past (if possible ... assuming that the changes to the staircase, fireplace, and, hidden room happened at some point after the previous owners had demolished the other half of the chateau) ... I'm thinking it would have been nice to sort of fix it, bring back that fireplace into decent condition & maybe put a proper entrance into that hidden room, right next to the fireplace.

My question is Do you need a room to do all your fix up's? If so make it functional. With the cute bathroom you could double it as a bedroom with a bed etc for when you have parties. I think you have a pretty good plan purging finish that otherwise you won't be able to see the forest for the trees. Planning from a clear space would be easier. Focus first on the decluttering I'm sure good ideas will come to you after this job is done.

The kid in me loves the idea of a secret room ngl, but I’d also be scratching my head trying to decide the best use for it
..and possibly trying to talk myself out of turning it into a secret wet bar where I could stash all my most treasured single malts đŸ˜‚đŸ€ŁđŸ˜‚ Have fun with it, whatever you decide
it is after all your space to do what pleases you! 😉👍

There’s never a lack of projects even when you own a regular size house.

Just get some craft room storage units and organize it. I'm sure you can find someone who would love to work their magic in the secret room!

You will get to each room. It will eventually happen. Don’t bust a gut doing it but I know you will get there. I have no idea as to what to do. I would ask an architect as they might come up with a really good solution. Fascinating history of your chateau. Thank you. May you all please take care and stay safe. đŸ‘đŸ‘đŸ‘â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžđŸ€©đŸ€©đŸ€©

I’ve only been watching you since you were talking about taking the peacock enclosure, you look a lot healthier and more relaxed now đŸ€—. I love the secret room! I would reinstate the push mechanism (just because you can have a secret hidden room, so why not! ) eventually a use will turn up for it!

Suggestion for furniture being sold. Have an estate auction on the lawn for 3 days in the summer and sell tickets to attend, and service wine?

Very interesting! I’ve always wondered about doors in the middle of a staircase. I’ve seen some at Billy’s convent and wondered about it. Tfs.

Many people seem to be advising get rid of the craft room materials - there's some good stuff in there and costly too. You will learn the sewing machine quickly when you have a mind (and time) to do it. For example - making curtains are easy and a fraction of the price of custom made. I'd keep all of the stuff, just organise it - maybe a 'crafty' friend could help out as you have your suite to do and that's a lot of work.

What an interest suite of rooms that connect, sort of... to the hidden room. If you ever get around to it a special project / craft room might hit the mark. You work on a project. close the door when you leave the room and the mess is out of sight. The bathroom made me think of Lilacs or Wisteria but that funcky wall paper would have to go. 😄. Just the tidy of the corner room may gives you some ideas. What ever your choice it will be interesting. Too many projects at the same time just messes with you focuse. Have fun

You are correct, it is not a priority.
I personally would rehide the secret door, just because why not. Maybe add another door from the other side so you don't have to go upstairs and then back down the stairs to make use of it. You could get rid of the bathroom and have a second hidden door from that now larger room. You may decide to keep the bathroom and just redecorate it, and add the extra door at the same time.
Anyway plenty of time to come up with lots of crazy options while finishing the master suite.
