the style/form of these triple axel attempts reminds me of Tonya Harding. The axis of the rotation shifts in the air and an early check-out is required to counteract the shift. She has a firm, low-gravity-centered body(a kind way of saying short legs), so she should go Midori Ito style and jump at a terrifyingly high speed, thereby creating the momentum to go higher and cover more ice, therefore allowing her to have more time to complete the rotations. But I know, its so much easier said than done. If she is looking for a "form" to copy, Midori is number one for her body shape.
I am commenting on this clip 4 years later-and over a year after she actually landed a few in competitions. To be entirely honest, while she seems to have made some solid attempts here, I actually didn’t think she would ever master a clean 3A, maybe because of her age, how the tech specialists frequently give her URs, etc. I find it absolutely fantastic that she got it, of course, and I am glad Mirai proved me wrong.
Is this Mirai's SP that she's training? I hope so because the music is wonderful and accentuates the more gentle and elegant side of Mirai. Really digging it.
+Rohan kinraid check out Ashley Wagner's interview with ESPN discussing the permanent brain damage she has from falling and hitting her head on the ice during training
+Rohan kinraid I'm not arguing for protective gear, just sayin' that it's a fact that head injuries can and do occur in figure skating. people underestimate them and how serious they can be, so skaters like Ashley continue to train through them without understanding the damage they're doing. Perhaps if ashley and her coaches had been more informed earlier on on how to recognize the signs of a concussion, how to properly treat it, and how to avoid/lessen long term damage, she wouldnt have the effects from them that she does
+Esra Yildiz It depends what level you're on. I stopped skating with a helmet when I was 4 because I didn't need it. If you're a FIGURE skater than you would know that it's just common sense that we don't wear helmets when we are jumping and spinning.
Sucks to suck. It'll be nice if she can contribute to society by getting a real job now instead of being a rink bum- it's obvious she isn't practicing, but instead making a hobby out of beating younger girls who she finds threatening. I don't support adults putting their hands on children- even if you are Mirai Nagasu. I advise everyone to call the World Arena to find out for themselves the amount of complaint reports filed against her. It's unbelievable.
Maybe because an axel jump is mandatory in the short program, look how many times Mao Asada took the lead in the short because of the 3A, so did Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, both world champions. A clean 3A at least in the short could make a huge difference.
^^indeed. Also: eventually, (more if not all) ladies will have to move in this direction, hopefully while preserving great choreographies, musicality etc.
Andy Simmons I think in Mirai's case I would agree with you, but it has damaged women's figure skating that there aren't any skaters pushing the sport forward. I thought I would never say this but women's figure skating is incredibly boring to watch now. For all the complaints that the men get for doing too many quads, at least there is progression and change, while the women are completely static and stagnant.
And two years later, she's landing 3A's both on competitive short programs and free skates, like it's nobody's business. Way to go, Mirai!
2 years later and she still inspires me
Dude! I think Mirai is coming for blood! I got chills when the Lana Del Rey music started!
She's amazing. I love her skating.
And to think she has now successfully landed it at the Olympics...when the whole world was watching. Mind blowing.
Oh wow, if she gets very this consistant, she will dominate! soooooo excited for you Mirai keep it up!

Wow her triple axel is a lot better than I thought. Must be working on it a lot!
Mirai looks amazing. One element flows into the next!!!
One of my favorites!! Can't wait to see this!
cool! I can't wait to see her performance! Go Mirai!! ♡
So close!! I believe in you you are an amazing skater Mirai!
It's sooooo close. You can do it Mirai!
+Natasha Smith I know!! So exciting, and I think she can get it in time!
"Seargant" Schulz, Eddie, Max..................... Yow.Keep plugging away Mirai. Hard work. Dedication. Heart. Soul.

That is a serious triple Axel she has cooking! This will be interesting...
The Best! Impossible not to like her
Just looked up Mirai 3a. Found this old video. Crazy to think now she’s landing them clean in both sp and long. Inspiring!!!!
She has really good technique!
she is great! fantastic!
I am very happy that some girls start to do 3 axel and quad, cause it is just boring seeing all the normal 3 jumps put at the second half of program.
Yay Marai!! YOU CAN DO IT!!
Way to go! がんば!
she will do it!
Her jumps are so effortless when she's not nervous/competing.
All my faves on one sheet of ice
I didn't know her, she's excellent !
Wow!!
+Joe DiPasquale I know!! So excited for her!
She's so good, but it's funny how they have Starbucks in the side of the barrier as there drink😂

FP
Beautiful but that looks hard on the body learning to land that beast.
Even playing it back slower and pausing it the very fist one she lands looks clean to me?!
I have fallen a few times like that, only different was that I were not jumping and spining =)
It hurts like hell.
go girl!
+snofagun1814 Yes!! Mirai is coming for blood this season, and I love it!
+JonathanOhHey yaaaaasssssss!!!!!!!!
snofagun1814 I'm excited to see what she does this season! Love the Lana Del Rey music too! Gave me chills when it started!
Anyone know the title of the music from the second half?
All that Jazz.
Who would’ve known... the first woman to land it at the olympics of 2018!!! 2nd to land it in competition!
needs more speed on the take off
i really wish mirai would still use this music in 2017 i felt the passion in her skating with this music i dont like her new music
her coach sounds like ronald mcdonald
yeeeet
What’s the song at 2:39!
Catgroove-parov stelar
(i think)
I like TZ's statement: Mirai, you own the 3Axel in the figure skating world. But in reality....
***** He said, "You owe the figure skating world a clean triple Axel."
Matt Ruffin Thanks for the clarification man!
No problem. : )
Why don't y'all use helmets what if u fall and hit your head?
+Rohan kinraid I skate and when i fall i hit my head sometimes.. so please

+Esra Yildiz well your also not a competing figure skater I see 😅

Ни о чем!
her spiral is more impressive than any 3 axel. too bad she doesn't use it well in her programs.

Why are you commenting this in every video of her? Leave her alone, I'd like to see you try a 3A
+Addy123 Wait what?
lmao what the fuck are you even talking about. sucks to be a bitter jealous liar!
Why work on a triple axel when you can't do your other jumps cleanly??
No woman, to my knowledge, has won Olympic Gold with a triple axel.....
