I think a big pro you've forgotten to mention is Evansville's expansive library system. There are many branches, a large and current collection in many forms of media including a large dvd and cd collection. The branches offer computer banks for those of us who do not have a working pc at home. They also offer computer software classes.

I was born in Evansville in 1955. The first house I remember living in was on Delaware Street, and we then moved to Elmhurst Drive in Melody Hills. We moved to Florida in 1963, and I've been in NYC since 1981, but Evansville has always had a strong pull on my memory. I went to Lynch Kindergarten on Lynch and Oak Hill Roads, then to Oak Hill Elementary school for the first two grades and a month of third grade, My grandfather owned and ran Cook's Barbecue on Weinbach Avenue. I bought comic books at Weinbach Pharmacy and at Luring's Newstand downtown. I can remember our family shopping at Lawndale Shopping Center and going to the movies at Sunset Drive-In. My maternal grandparents lived in Newburgh and I still have cousins in Mt. Vernon. I haven't been back to Evansville since 1996, but I'd like to think I may get back for one more visit in my life.

Nice video! I moved to Evansville from Indy in 2022. I had always liked the city, and my mom was from Tell City and we spent a lot of time not too far away at my grandmother's in Jasper. I think the amenities are very good in proportion to the population. Roads are also excellent. You feel as though you are in a big metropolis on the expressways. Another pro is that Evansville has amazing architecture everywhere. It feels as though very little has been torn down over the years. I'm a fan!

I grew up in Evansville and left at about 14, when my parents moved. I loved it there, and remember it fondly.. especially all the big trees and the rolling hills/creeks. I remember it as a place that had a lot of home grown Arts: dance, ice skating, an amphitheater, a nice zoo, a nice little museum, that beautiful river. I don't know what it is like now.. as I've been away a long time; but I would like to revisit it. I remember that people used to say we had the "Evansville twang" in our speech. I also remember it as sort of racially divided. It used to have great BBQ and also brain sandwiches.

Hopefully the sewer problem will be solved with the big project that is going on now. The city have a big sewer overflow problem, part of the city smells like a sewer, and river is nasty. Evansville is boring flat town = cheap living. Most people live here only because of work. The air quality is really bad 5 coal burning power plants in the 50 mile radius plus AK steel, Alcoa (Kaise Aluminum), Sabic ...etc.

2 cents. Lived there for many, many years...westside, eastside and McCutchenville. I still have immediate family living there. Eville is extremely clique-ish and racially divided. For decades its been a "test market" for retailers and food chains so the job market in those fields come and go. Back in the late 60's through the 70's we would constantly get all the big name bands and musical artists through Larry Aiken's "Sunshine Promotions" but it all almost completely died out by like 1985-6. There really isn't all that much to do there as far as nightlife is concerned. i.e. bars and eateries are about it. There is a philharmonic or used to be. There is Mesker Zoo on the westside. There is the 4th of July "Freedom Festival" and the fest on the west side by the "West Side nut Club". There used to be and ice rink on the eastside. There is golf and parks with tennis courts. The police force tends to be a bit "strong arm-y" too. Or used to be. Spring and fall are nice. The winters can get brutally bone-chilling cold and summers can be very hot, humid and stagnant as it sits in large valley on the Ohio River. Tornados do hit once in a while and have been deadly.

Since I have lived here for 69+ years, let me add a few more pros of living in Evansville. Evansville is a great place to raise your children, it is family oriented, with many fine parks and recreation areas, scattered throughout the area. Holiday World has been rated the number 1 family oriented, safe and clean, theme park in America. It is only 1 hours away, east on I 64.
Evansville, has many Bible believing, Christ exalting churches in the area, with strong Christian moral values. Evansville population is around 119K within the city limits, and 350K for the metro area. It consists of areas such as Howell, Lamasco, and Franklin, Rose Dale and others, that I may be forgetting, that were absorbed into the city over the years since Evansville's founding in 1812. Franklin Street hosts the 2nd largest U.S. street event each year, called the "Fall Festival", second only the the , mardi gras in New Orleans. Franklin street offers some beautiful late 19th century, and/or early 2th century buildings with many restaurants There are beautiful 19th century homes near the beautiful Ohio River on 1st and 2nd streets. Evansville has a beautiful water front setting on the Ohio River. There are many lakes that are also within an easy drive, such as Lake Barkley and Patoka Reservoir. There are interesting spots to visit within the metro area, such as New Harmony, In., old town Newburgh, In., Henderson, Ky and Owensboro, Ky. which are only 1 hour drive away.
In summary, it is a great place to live!

Why would you be proud to say that your town hates the gays? That’s not something to be proud of. And this is coming from a Hoosier. Some things to think about.

I once was lost, but now am found. I was just like you at one time in my life, a child of the devil, headed for hell, under God's wrath. But, by the grace of God, I am in Christ Jesus, who delivered me from the domain of darkness and transferred me to the kingdom of light in His glorious Son. It is my prayer, that He may do the same for you.

It's more mental illness than drugs, I've been here for a few years and aside from homemade bathtub meth and a lot of weed Evansville doesn't really have a drug problem, now if you've never been to cities with drug problems you may think it does but by all accounts Evansville is like 25yrs behind the rest of the country, the real problem is undiagnosed mental problems and worst thing is the amount of sex offenders and crimes against children

You forgot to mention the all important super fun fact. About 4 out of ten people are meth heads. The southeast side is great but if you have kids make sure they can fight. The Southside and most of the Northside are extremely bad neighborhoods full of crime and roaming Crackheads and Methheads.
I've lived in Evansville since 1987 it has gotten worse than it was in the 80s and that is an impressive feat.

It's more prejudice than racist,I grew up in Memphis and Mississippi and believe it or not it's worse here and that's mainly because of the fake "colorblind"crap that they frequently speak, everyone gets along until you voice your opinion but it's not the"real" racism of the south where old money racists can actually effect where you life or anything like that,it's mostly poor, foolish hillbillies that are just going on what they were taught by their families that have never been further than Henderson or Princeton,it's more prejudice than actually racist, racism can effect your life a broke prejudice person from Evansville can't effect anything unless they're your supervisor at some bullshit warehouse job 😂

I totally disagree with you, this is a perfect loca. 2.5 hrs. from major cities n,e, w, or s. great roads out here on west side with very lite traffic in the wadesville, new harmony, st. Phillips etc. for cycling or motorcycling, restaurants galore, semi mild weather,ie. much colder north and hotter south! lots of car shows, festivals abound, especially fall fest, peep travel hundreds of miles to come here for it, motorcycle rallies all summer, and cost of living not too bad if center point and evv water/sewer would stop raising rates and killing us! Our civic leaders really need to make evv more attractive to bring in new businesses and create jobs before this city dries up and blows away like many have.

Pro: if you're into meth we have plenty of that!
Con: if you like driving our streets suck and the city government likes to shut down as many streets as possible even though they don't fix them. Even more fun in winter because the city has no clue how to clean snow off the streets.
Pro: if you are gun happy we have plenty of shootings.
Con: Dodge-a-Car. People in Evansville have no idea how to read road signs and will happily venture across the center line of the street even when there is oncoming traffic. optional game, see if you can find a curve that still has lane markings, since people regularly cut across the curve wiping out the lane markings.
Pro: The Fall Festival. if you can deep fry it and put it on a stick you will probably find it there.

I live in Evansville Indiana from 2001 to 2003 fact, in Black people call racist names all time. Specially, didn’t have a car. Polices pull you over if you white woman or white guy. In the whole entire town used to look at you crazy. Back then it was very bad I don’t know how it is in 2023.

I can’t say about the year 2023 so I don’t know can tell you from 2001 to 2003. Bad Evansville Indiana especially black person. I was call racist names four years living out there. Everybody in the town look at you. had white woman or white guy your car, police pull you over KKK had there parade people didn’t want them there KKK will stare down at white woman if she had a mixed baby with a black guy. Like I said, it was worse back then because I lived out there. The only good thing. If you got lock up, you can bill yourself out of jail Indiana is one of those states you can do that I don’t know about now
