    There's research on the possibility of engineering a "gene drive" that would cause mosquitoes to only have male offspring. Of course, that would cause them to go extinct, but in that case it would be a good thing.

      "While they can seem pointless and purely irritating to us humans, mosquitoes do play a substantial role in the ecosystem. Mosquitoes form an important source of biomass in the food chain-serving as food for fish as larvae and for birds, bats and frogs as adult flies-and some species are important pollinators." copyed from a google search but its not like we need all the 3500 typs of mosquitos for that so killing the ones with deadly disease should be fine

    • @Joshua-br7mc
      @Joshua-br7mc Před 2 lety +6

      This is a tricky one and requires the thought process of us verses them
      There are over 3,000 species of mosquitoes yet only around 200 carry malaria, so less than 10percent. Is it fair to destroy a whole ecology for ten percent, arguably yes due to them being one of the largest vectors for human disease. But what would be the consequence of eradicating mosquitoes, stepping away from morality
      But what if we stepped away from humanity and looked at the ecosystems that are dependent on these creatures for food… while they may adapt our world is already struggling with animal populations dropping… why add another problem to that? Fish, birds and flowers are dependent on mosquitoes.
      Why not invest in better infrastructure to support people who are struggling, distributing wealth providing research, medicine and hospitals?
      Our solution cannot be to kill them because where will we draw the line in our already dying world

This bacteria can’t hurt humans or the environment so it’s pretty much a best case scenario. However, if you’re like me and hate mosquitoes with a burning, fiery passion, then you’ll be sad to hear that Wolbachia doesn’t hurt the mosquitoes either. This leads me to the video idea I just had: What would happen if all the mosquitoes on Earth disappeared?

My mum just took out some old stuff to test if the equipment was still working, when out of nowhere the living room was infested with mosquitoes. We all panicked and tried to kill all of them, before my mum went downstairs for some reason that I don't remember and saw a notice board informing us of this very thing! Meanwhile this one mosquito was flying around my ear and I heard a high-pitched buzzing sound that I never heard in real life before. The next time this happened, there was one in The lift/elevator and kept coming to my hair. It's, quite an experience alright
