Do you think it's a smart move by Wolff selling his $3 Billion stake in Mercedes?

      It’s not real

    • @mrj3217

Yes, because when it comes out that Mercedes was colluding with people inside of F1 and Sky Sports F1 media to manufacture bogus reasons to allow them to make changes that every other team could not make that made their car perform better or as F1 put is Gaining a Advantage.
So he sells and goes away and he can avoid the backlash after this is revealed.
Mercedes had cheated F1 and all the other teams for years.

Investors like that do not sell all at once...
From 50M to 3.3B probably means at least a 50M+ is already sold.
To cover the initial investment and after that, probably, DCA out in very small margins.
In such big gain cases, you can do 1% a year without even influence the overall value.
By the time they are ready to go out and sell all, these speculations affect the overall price.
Is there is a need to sell, then the value goes down.
If there is no need, but the opposite, a desire to buy, the price goes up.
So while the peak might be in 2022,
the power of such a big asset and the desire to own it might drive the price up.
This can go in hand with seller to determine the conditions.
This can mean a partial sale and/or to keep a role like team principal or other personnel.
Either way, "smart is relative" because no one can see in to the future,
but the gains already made makes it a smart investment.
Not taking profits (and/or along the way) would be considered a "dumb" investment.
The "smart" question can only be answered by what comes after...
      1. Will F1 decrease in value?
      2. Where would this wealth be re-invested in?
      * Does this re-investment out performs F1?
Only when these 2 questions are answered, the definitive right conclusion can be made.
Whatever other PPL think will not influence the outcome of this already hugely profitable investment.
With already makes it a very smart investment by default.
Only when he rides it down to below buy-in price including interest + inflation can makes this a dumb move.
So it stays smart for most of the time, no matter what he does.
The only question after all this is: Did he maximize it to it's full potential?
And that can only be answered in time..

If he has a single live brain cell in his head he will dump it.
F1 is going down. Not because of RB either. The constant BS rules infringement. The over extended schedule. The idiotic proliferation of street circuits. The goofy parking lot cookie cutter tracks. The closed cell boys club.
But Toto won’t sell. He wants to run F1 one day.

I think you should consilidate your facts before speculating on someone else's future actions.
I agree that total dominance by one team, Mercedes or red bull is detrimental to the sports popularity and needs to be countered.
I also think that the addition of yet another street circuit in Las Vegas was a mistake. They tried the razmtaz before when Liberty first took over and it fell flat in short order. I suspect LV will be the same in a couple of years if it even makes it that far.

He'd be stupid to NOT sell. If you are an investor in the team, then you need to make decisions on your investment with your investor's hat on, not your team principle hat. I do believe the value of the teams has peaked, evidenced by how no one can afford to buy in, except maybe the filthy rich Saudis (which I think would ruin the sport. Imagine all the races being held in the Middle East!). Sell high, buy low, is still the investors moto. So, if Toto has any brains (balls), he would sell high. That doesn't mean he has to leave Mercedes, but it does mean he can be replaced with no say in the matter. Personally, I'd love to see home go. Just my opinion.

I have been interested in F1 since the 1960's. I have seen domination by Michael Schumaker, Vettle, Hamiliton, and now Max. It is the way F1 works. Is it better than parity? No probably not but F1 has increased in popularity regardless. I am not a Toto Wolff and/or Mercedes fan. Bail out and be gone; good riddance as far as I'm concerned. Bring on Andretti and Cadillac!

@joejoe8322 Just look back to the BAKU race in 2022. Mercedes knew they needed to change their front end suspension but could not due to the regulations so they played up driver safety and tried to force F1 to allow them to make that kinda change.
It's very obvious that SkySports F1 is colluding with Mercedes and primarily doing all that they can to help the Mercedes team benifit.
From over scrutinizing every competitors action, fake safety issues that make F1 look bad as if they don't care and bias race coverage.
