The lock seems pretty to me for the price range that they probably intended for it. LPL also deduced the main purpose of the lock to be for low security outdoor purposes. If it had a hardened shackle it would be better but also reduce its weather resistance and take it out of its intended price range.

As to how much that would add to the base price, it's tough to say. I would be all over this lock if it had a hardened shackle, even if it was a few bucks more.

Honestly, this seems like a very reasonable lock. It isn't one of those huge hefty locks that try to be indestructible, it isn't one of those $2 locks that lie about their quality, it's just a plain and simple low security padlock, perfect for a wide variety of uses in which you aren't securing something dangerous or overly expensive. Bravo, Amazon. You managed to make a decent lock.

LPLs videos have inspired me to get some picks and learn a new skill, the other day I purchased one of Walmart's Hyper Tough brand locks to practice with and it was embarrassingly bad, all I have to do is put in a tension tool and wiggle it a little and the lock pops open, don't need to touch the pins at all!
Finally, a lock build to be more secure than it needs to be. It is more than adequate to keep kids or teenagers away from the chemicals, power tools and sharp objects in a shed or cabinet. I'd even go so far as to say it would be a perfect core for a gun lock as well, so long as the chamber obstruction element was competently designed.

This seems perfect for those plastic sheds where if brute force is an attack vector the whole shed is a liability.
