Rafael Nadal is one of the greatest players of all time but when he enters in clay court tournaments he is nearly unbeatable. Well, nearly unbeatable. Today I have compiled every single clay court loss Nadal has suffered since 2006.

I think Nadal lost on purpose in a lot of these. He didn't wanna get injured for french open.
@@scottwarren4998That is a load of rubbish. He lost in multiple finals
@@WorldofMiscria Nadal lost on purpose in many probably. These losers never beat nadal in french open, except djokovic.

Check out my very original comment:
not to brag but I've been alive for >17 years and I have 0 losses on clay
Nadal losing 3 times to Fognini on clay is not something I was expecting to see
Nadal always had trouble with Fognini, not just on clay. He is a master at taking the ball super early which takes a lot of Nadal's weapon, which is his heavy spin, out of the game. Hes also just incredible unpredictable which Nadal also hates.
Seems like this Nadal guy isn’t very good on clay
He totally sucks at clay, I mean a 112-3 record at the french open just isnt that great tbh

It’s like getting a college degree
A lot of top players called it the "Mission Impossible" when tackling Nadal on clay
In the 2000’s he was a god. In the 2011’s he was great. From 2014-2016, we thought he was about to retire. From 2017, he performed a miracle resurgence.
Because Novak was injured 😅
A miracle resurgence = every time we thought he was about to retire, he always found a miraculous medicine to perform miracles. What a miraculous medicine man!

@@user-cy6xl3vd3fso it’s since 2006
those two wins by Djoko in 2011 were absolutely incredible. Nadal was still seemingly unplayable on clay yet somehow Djoko overwhelmed him and was clearly better in both encounters. I also remember very well those two losses to Fogini, who was seriously underrated as a clay court player, and an incredible win by Zeballos in Vinha del Mar, Nadal's loss to Zeballos was utterly unexpected, but Horacio played out of his mind and deservedly scored the biggest win of his career in high quality match
What I love most, is the expression of absolute jubilation, at beating him on clay. Never seen Federer or Djokovic look so thrilled at a none slam event. Federer opening clip on winning at Hamburg. Djokovic winning Monte Carlo on 2013. The release on taking match point is so keenly felt in there expressions. It just shows you what an insane task it is, upsetting Rafa on clay.
The ultimate in tennis this century - beating Rafa on clay. Look at the joy of those few who have done it. And, surely, respect also to Novak, the only guy to do it twice at RG.
Really disappointing to see where Thiem actually belongs. He beat Rafa 4 years in a row at ATP masters level. Was the true heir on clay!

Lol right
Such a short video to show all his losses on Clay! GOAT!
Altough it is well known the sportmanship that Rafa has had his entire career, it´s fair to say aswell thay the guy´s been usually very dry and cold with handshakes (comparing with other stars of the game) when he has lost a match. You could understand that nobody like to lose and it´s the heat of the moment, but he could have tried better sometimes
Yeah. A bit friendlier with Federer and a couple of others but generally chilly. I don’t blame him though…you have to be obsessed with winning to compete consistently at this level.
@@FlabbyTitmusswhat i don't like it's his hipocrisy, he seems this "good guy who just love tennis" and he Even talked about how novak was the one obsessed when when SEE their behaviours totally opposite, Nadal was the one pushkng his body to the extreme to gain injuries and Even had to numb his feet to be able to win 1 or 2 slam more, then the guy act like he's not the obsessed one? The guy who prepares to win every rg he encountered despite busting his feet it's not "obsessed" and hist love the Game, what a load of bs, if he loved that mucho the Game and not obsessed with gs he would play minor tournaments instead of jumping to the slams everytime
@@diegosotomiranda4107 Yeah. I think the whole world did a collective eye roll when Rafa accused others of being obsessive haha. They all are (the big three)…that’s what facilitated their greatness.

But Rafa just always had something extra at RG. Novak had great chances in 12,13,14 but Rafa got the better of him everytime!

Fabio Fognini isn't getting enough credit, he is the third player with the most wins against Nadal in clay, after Novak and Them.
Yea, but he defeated him when he wasn't playing nearly his best, Novak here is the true winner. Every single match they played that was shown in this video was extraordinary between them.
@@peolfpetler8500 Doesn't matter. A win is a win.
I'm a Fognini fan, being Italian he's the player I've watched more matches than any other of.
I think he got a great match up vs Nadal, so he was able to give him a lot of trouble.
He has beautiful groundstrokes and great volley and touch skills.
Anyway, as a player overall he has several issues, like a very very weak serve, and a weak mental attitude. It's not a coincidence he never reached the important stages in the Grand Slam.
The Montecarlo win was a great and deserved achievement for him.
Gracious in defeat ❤
While the focus in this video is on Rafa and Novak, who beat him many times, Thiem was also a very great player.
He was the only person to beat Rafa in 2017 and 2018.
And of course his win in 2019 was also fantastic.
But Thiem didn't win the Masters on clay.
It is strange.
Man, Djokovic really is the GOAT. His achievements aside, and they already confirm he is the inarguable goat, he is the one out of the big 3 who went and took out his rivals at their slams. Fed got him once when he was still an immature kid in 07, but that hardly counts. Since he won his first Aussie he has never lost to Fed or Nadal there while scoring victories over them at their slams. Beating Rafa at RG twice is unthinkable and beating Fed at Wimbledon 3 times is almost equally difficult. There is no metric by which he isn't the greatest. Fed will always be the best to watch for the sheer artistry of his tennis, and Djoker will never be loved like them, but damn if he didn't put this debate to rest
*If Djoker is the GOAT then that would mean he is also the greatest clay and grass court player ever*
But these are Nadal and Federer respectively
*Also Djoker isn't the GOAT of the US Open either* Federer beats him there with 5 vs 3 US Open titles
*Djoker is the GOAT only of the Australian Open kid*
Another thing:
*Nadal between 2005-2010 was the best clay court player ever*
*Federer's peak was from 2003-2009*
Djoker started winning against them when these 2 weren't at their best anymore
@ZelenikTchingy dude, greatest of all time means the greatest overall... you don't have to be the literal best at every surface to be the greatest. He's just overall clearly the best through his achievements.
@@kalorakalora *No because being a GOAT means being the best in that sport, meaning all surfaces*
Tennis is a special sport because playing it on clay is completely different than on grass
*In football Messi is the greatest and that's legit, since football is only played on grass*
Djokovic is only the GOAT of Australian Open, that's it
@ZelenikTchingy dude what the actual hell are you talking about. No it doesn't. Get out of here with that nonsense. For generations, the entire tennis world called Sampras the GOAT. You know, like actual former tennis champs who had won Grand Slams like McEnroe... tennis pundits who are far more knowledgeable than me or you. For decades they called Sampras the GOAT. And he sucked on clay and was not necessarily the best at all on hard court. They called him the goat because he was the overall most successful and best. That's what makes a goat. Not some silly kid on the internet saying "oh you need to be the best ever on every surface to be the goat".
Nah, I'll take the the word of actual tennis greats from past and present. Guys who know the sport far better than us. Literally all of the younger guys in their 20s on the ATP know also acknowledge Djokovic as the GOAT. Stop trying to change the generally accepted definition of GOAT to your own silly version even though mountains of evidence and statements from people infinitely more qualified to make that judgement than you are saying the total opposite of this nonsense you're spewing.
@ZelenikTchingy how about you name one reason why you are more qualified to say who the GOAT is than 7 time slam winner John McEnroe, or a Alex Zverev. And then we can talk. List one reason why your thoughts on what makes a goat are even remotely close to being as valid as former and present tennis stars thoughts. Otherwise shut your mouth and don't try to change definitions that everyone who isn't insane agrees on
rafa had been playing with these guys for 5+ years and most of these wins were his first time losing to them 😂😊
Yep, and he wasnt at 100% also, he was at 100% only at RG :d no point to waste all the energy on other tournaments but grand slams, djokovic does the same , when u r 30+, u cant be at 100% on every tournament.Djokovic also loses in other tournaments to guys like Rune , but in Grand slam , those 3 big guys r titans.
There's just one guy who managed to beat both Nadal and Federer in all four majors. They haven't succeded in beating each other in every slam - but there is one guy who won against both of them in every single slam.
He is not unbeatable on clay but he is definitely unbeatable in RG 90% of matches
He is the God of Roland Garros,14 finals and he won all of them
He just seems to care more about the slam rather than a masters. A focused, dedicated Nadal on clay is scary
The most important thing is when it came to Rolland Garros, he always played incredibly well
Drugdal handshakes when he lose says his true character.
I was kinda expecting this video to be 3 seconds long
Impossible to say Federer is the GOAT. Absolutely outclassed by Nadal on clay. Shows up here twice in meaningless tournaments. Meanwhile look at what Djokovic did here -- multiple wins over Nadal on clay, including two at the French. Federer will never live down his clay court failures.
Even fed would have defeated 2015rg nadal. Djokovic was better than fed on clay but fed didnt get as lucky with the timing of his meetings with rafa as novak.
Another 🤡 who got very lucky with timing is fognini
2015 and 2021 were Nadal's worst seasons on clay. He was much better in the seasons where he was beating Federer.
Look at everyone after wining those matches. Scream and cried like won
The final of grand slam 😂
This guy is crazy. He only loses on land in preparation matches or a preparation tournament to go to Roland Garros ready to compete in France. And in France the only times he lost at Roland Garros was because he was injured. That is why he is the best in the Big 3, he was the one who suffered the most injuries of all and he beat them at the best moment of Federer and Novak. Djokovic began to win when Roger and Rafa began to get seriously injured and lowered the level.
I thought this video would be 0 seconds long
Everybody's like : WTF did I just do? I beat the guy who has 112-3 record in Roland Garros! Tsitsipas looked totally mesmerized! Truth is Rafa has lost lot of matches on clay. There are so many big clay tournaments RG, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Monte Carlo. Rafa has around 50 tournament wins combined between all these. He has is share of losses as well which makes him human.
Đoković said it himself, Nadal is the best player on clay but he is not unbeatable.

Thiem is severely missed.
Until 2014 he lost 12 matches, then the next two years "he lost to much", then between 2019-2022 he lost again way much
He's a monster, in those years he lost matches than a regular tennis playe would have lost. On his peak years only he needed to be tired or his rival playing the level of his life.
He still hasn't lost a lot compared to other players
Just like a boxing champion after the first loss, nothing is the same. After 2011, victories started to mean less and less against him.
Nadal on clay from 2005 to 2014, a decade, was the toughest challenge in all sports. This is coming from a Federer fan. Also, respect Djokovic for slaying the beast.
There were two challenges in sports I can argue even during those times were way way more tougher. Let me list them for you
1 Beating Tiger woods in a major when he was up a lead on the final day. He was undefeated in that sort of situation for 13 years since masters 1997. And when the guy named lee did it In PGA championships 2009 the world was truly shocked😮 to their feet.
2 coming close 2nd in the list is beating Undertaker at WrestleMania who much like woods was undefeated at WrestleMania for 22 years from 1990 to 2014 and when Brock Lesnar did it at WrestleMania 30 much like in the above case the world was but stunned😮😮.
Those two challenges were way way tougher ( during that time) than even beating Nadal at the french open.
since 2006 but none for 2006, king of clay
No matter what some whant to prove, Rafa Nadal is the KING of Clay and the undisputable GOAT. He made Nole and Federer (really) cry on the courts!!!

Most of these handshakes were salty as hell lmao
Who is this Djokovic ?
Wow Fognini 3 times?!
So when clay becomes faster (Madrid) Nadal can be beaten by even every of top 16 player . His game is perfect on slow surfaces
One of many reasons why Novak is the goat is because he beat Nadal on clay more than any other player in history. Not to mention he's the only second man to beat Rafa on Roland Garros clay. And also he defeated Rafa on Roland Garros clay more than anyone else (twice).
Djokovic defeated Nadal on clay 8 times and Nadal defeated Djokovic on hard 7 times
Djokovic defeated Nadal in Roland Garros 2 times and Nadal never defeated Djokovic in Australia

Thiem and Fognini have more wins over Rafa on clay than Federer. Just realised that!
They faced Nadal more when he wasn't at his best. Federer faced him constantly at his peak.
I don’t think anyone questions that Rafa is the greatest player ever on a particular surface and that’s not even close. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just completely delusional.
What this video shows however is that even someone with that legacy loses from time to time and in 2015/16 even multiple times.

surprising that fed managed to beat nadal at all on clay
Fed imo is easily in top 5 clay courters ever, just doesn't seem it since overshadowed by Nadal. Won plenty of titles/ in his peak made nearly ever clay final & still pushed Nadal on clay from tome to time(see Rome & French open 06, hamburg 07-08 matches), but Nadal was Fed's kryptonite and extra difficult to rip aces & winners against on clay. (Fed's defense is underrated, but Nadal's defense on clay was godly)
