We also have a 2014 audi allroad with 156k.
It has been MORE reliable than our 2009 Toyota Highlander with 108k (yeah, that surprised me..).

I am surprised that Scotty doesn't mention the innately shoddy electrics on Audis. After around 5 years of average use they develop intermittent faults and open circuits, often needing major attention to what used to be called 'looms'.
As cars became so dependent upon on board computers (usually located in stupid places), manufacturers should have beefed up hard wiring but few bothered.
Given that Audi started from a low point in this regard I am amazed that anyone buys them.

The problem with cheap used BMWs or Mercedes, especially from private sellers, is that they are generally suffering from poor maintenance practices. So they are just looking to offload a problem. But a well-maintained BMW will last a good while. If you're looking for a used luxury car, it's best to go to a dealer because many of them are just well-maintained lease returns or trade-ins from loyal customers who are just upgrading every couple years. You will get the benefit of not having to deal with the depreciation loss while getting a solid car.

Although BMW and many German brands are expensive and can be expensive to maintain, I feel that generally people don't buy them for reliability reasons but instead for fun/performance reasons. Of course a prius is going to be more reliable but I would not buy a prius if I was trying to have fun going on drives and canyon runs. I wouldn't call them bad cars at all you just have to know what you are getting into before buying one.
