    The GH6, I waited so long and the day it was released I felt like a kid on Christmas...until I saw the reviews and purchased a Sony A7IV the same day.

    • @stalmanplus
      @stalmanplus  Před 2 lety +1

      😂 what lead to that decision?

    • @TheThaiLife

      @@stalmanplus Primarily, the autofocus. But overall, it barely felt like a good upgrade from the GH5. But I'll quickly walk you through exactly what lead to it. I saw them take the GH5, remove the innards and place it into the BGH1 with no screen et cetera but added connectability, wireless capability and a slightly faster processor. Even then, I thought to myself how these guys were really clever to find ways to re-brand the GH5 and continue to make money from this old tech. But then... they took the minor upgrades of the BGH1 and stuffed it back into the GH5 and called it a GH6. Forget it, I'm done. I'll tell you what, I was stubborn to switch to Sony but after years of GH5 it feels like a camera from the future. It's freaking flawless, beautiful AND THE SAME PRICE!

    appreciate the comments on the latest anamorphic lenses, yeah, the flares are out of control, still very interested in them though

    Smaller sensors' glass sizes will always be smaller, and if you're into traveling with lighter gear, M43 will always be an advantage. Perhaps, some people value that over image quality. Great episode btw, keep up the good work!

      Absolutely, and the image quality is no slouch either!

    I’d like people to discuss whether or not it makes sense to get either an A7iv or a GH6. These two cameras stand out as the best options for working professional documentary filmmakers (not CZcamsrs) the GH6 to me represents (almost) ultimate image quality with good versatility (the s1h is better, but much more expensive and in some ways worse.) the A7IV has ultimate versatility, with good image quality. Certainly a head above anything from canon or Nikon, but not as good as the Panasonic. For me, since photography is a big part of my work (even more so than video I would say) the a7iv is the more appealing choice

    Jordan and Tyler - @31 minutes in you suggest "tripod Mode" for Boost I.S. That is what I suggested but I was overruled, AF Boost was the best name of the compromises. I don't know if Jordan remembers the old name of this feature.

    • @stalmanplus
      @stalmanplus  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah tripod boost would have really helped clarify, i was just guessing in the heat of the moment

    What I want to know or see but nobody has shown it yet is with the gh6 out is the bmpcc4k still relevant other than price point and free DaVinci Resolve.
    Jordan help me please.

    I've been trying to figure out which cameras have open gate. Looks like the GH4 doesn't, GH5-6 do, haven't found out whether or not the BMPCC 4k does. I wish there was just a list :(

    I like the look of the OM1 and the 10 - 25 F1.7. Having a fullfame equivalent 20 - 50 F3.5 is perfect for me. I'm just not sure how much dynamic range I'll be giving up. DR does get me out of jail a few times.

    Great podcast. I agree that m43 is great for news gathering. Been using a gh5 as b cam for short docs for nearly four years now. GH6 seems interesting, especially the DR boost and full v-log. Question: how is the manual focus on the native lenses with the new 360 option? I'm still rocking sigma 18-35 1.8, so I haven't tried that out though it is also on the gh5 m2.

    • @thatjordandrake
      @thatjordandrake Před 2 lety

      The linear focus response works quite well. Most of the M43 lenses I use have a mechanical focus clutch, so I don't use this feature too often, but it will certainly make focus-by-wire Panasonic lenses more usable.

    Much is discussed about technical details of Cameras. For those who want to know what can be produced with a Lumix GH, it is worth looking here on YT, the EH Films channel! simply sensational!

      Let’s say you wanted to dress up as Sully, you make make your hair grey, chomp a cigar, wear a short sleeve button down shirt and put on a moustache. It’s fine if they wanted to change one of those things, but they didn’t attempt any of them 🤷‍♂️

    If people would just *tell stories* more intensely than they obsess about their gear, we would all be a helluva lot better for it. Remember real FILM? That technology workflow SUCKED, but film companies told marvelous stories with it.
    Full frame and Micro 4/3 both have important places in the video world. As long as SoCanoNikon continue to make video-as-an-afterthought mirrorless cameras with heavy, bulky lenses, I'll keep using my GH cameras. I can't wait to get my hands on a production GH6. I record about equal amounts of video and stills, so I'm looking forward to 25MP stills and 100MP copies of my slides and negatives. More than that, I'm looking forward to all the little things that make the whole camera far greater than the sum of its parts. This is a lean, mean, storytelling machine.
    I think Jordan would agree that usability demands a good 'gestalt' combination of features and benefits. The GH and SH cameras have that gestalt in spades. l've found the GH cameras just fit my expectations about how a camera should feel and work, AF issues and high ISO performance not withstanding. Panasonic stuck the package of tools we asked for into them. They are as responsive a company as I've seen. I now think they have the message about PDAF! (Panasonic USA has had it for years.)
    Frankly, the AF on the GH6 seems GOOD ENOUGH for most purposes. With a bit of study, trial, and error, even the GH5 AF is usable in many situations. It's just not "no brainer usable." Drive-by reviewers have always pooh-poohed it because their peers do. Pack journalism is a perennial problem...
    Now, even the 13-stop dynamic range is usable in most situations. The sample footage I've seen is very film-like, especially VLOG with DR Boost on. Highlight roll-off is spectacular compared with previous cameras. I would not hesitate to make a very low budget film with this as my A-camera.
