Hmmm...Yes.
But Ungoliant as Goldberry is something so weird I'm almost interested.

I can't wait to see the origins of The Nine as the diverse lesbians queens that Tolkien always intended.
Hahahahahahahaha as the Witch Queen stabs Froda (
Don't give them any ideas
@@innercynic2784 Diverse lesbians whose weak will and hunger for power saw them corrupted? I think the writers would strongly prefer to claim that The Nine began as The Patriarchy, and postulate that if diverse lesbians had been the kings of men instead, there would be no ring wraiths today. :p
I would have had more respect for Amazon if they had given the money to charity, rather than piss it up this wall.
Oh no. The Nine are badmuns. That means that they were _definitely_ white men.
Several years ago, when I heard that Amazon was adapting Tolkien's work, I dreamt of a Silmarillion series. Now, I honestly hope and pray they never do it.
Honestly I'm surprised they went for another season of _Rings_ rather than that.
I love the fact that the showrunners/producers know that Rings of Power is so popular. They can troll these snowflakes by casting a man of Asian descent as Annatar. It's hilarious.

Man, i was so happy when i heard years ago about amazon making the most expensive tv series ever about Tolkien's world. Then rings of power came out and oh boy...
@@Don-Coyote-De-Transylvania Yeah it is really good.
Its so, so ironic that Simon, Tolkien's grandson, is a weak man who threw his grandfather's work to ruin when Tolkien was contemplating a follow up to Lord of the Rings where Aragorn's grandson leads Gondor to decline.

Sales of Tolkien increased by 1000% after LOTR.
Jackson's formula - honor Tolkien, follow the lore, and don't insert your own politics - clearly worked.
Amazon's formula - contradict the lore, insert modern identity politics, and delete all negative reviews - has utterly failed.
I heard of the novels, but I didn't pay much attention.
It was when the first movie came out that made me decide to buy and read the original trilogy.
I mean, not so much with the Hobbit, but at least real world politics were left out.
@mragin I'm no scholar but I am a bit of a LOTR nerd. I read the Hobbit at 9, LOTR at 10, The Silmarillion at 23 and have re-read all of them many, many times and although I recognised the changes that were made for the Hobbit films, I still enjoyed them. Ya know that Ice Troll had a family. He had lived in that cave with his family for over 80 years when he found some elves creeping around his house unannounced in the middle of an ice storm, stealing his stuff.

It's a problem for Simon, honestly I don't understand how idiotic someone can be.
I mean they did the same with GoT and lotr, I was listening to the audio books or read the first book and it was like I was rewatching the movies. You should stay faithful to the original books but improve where you can. You can also realize that back in the days it was harder to imagine these things, nowadays we play video games that blow away even Tolkien, if Lotr came out today it wouldn't win any Oscars and maybe Warcraft movie wouldn't be such a flop (me and my Warcraft and one WoW friends, loved it)
Amazon getting the rights to the Silmarillion is honestly terrifying, I really don't wish to see another of Tolkien's great works defiled.

As for the "We want it to reflect the world as it is today" do those people not know that Fantasy is escaping any world as it is?
The purpose was to destroy things men love, so there is no escape from activism.
And then they say: "alright, if it is fantasy and scapism, then doesn't matter to have a multiethnic cast, and woman as powerful as man etc". For them is all or nothing, no need of logic to worldbuild.
It's also a lie, because what they push does NOT reflect the modern world in which we live in, it reflects the very narrow "world" the writers live in, in their echo chamber.
@@rpgadventurer32it certainly doesn't reflect third world and homogenous countries
This! This is what gets me. It's literally the genre that people go to in order to escape the real world for a while. And it's Tolkien! Arguably one of the fathers, if not THE father of the entire modern subculture around the fantasy genre. Before his work inspired so many more related circles, a lot of people had no outlet from the troubles of society. You know what they had? Depression. And judgement, probably. You'd have to be an idiot to miss why his work is so loved, and definitely should not be adapting any sort of media.
It's absolutely mental that entertainment has gotten THIS bad.
It perfectly reflects world around us.

Can't wait to see Morgoth in his yellow boots and blue jacket, going around singing "Ring a ding dillio" while corrupting elves into orcs and doing evil.... Rhyming all through it about the beauty of the river woman's daughter, Ungoliant.
I think that's such a stupid theory. Calling it fanfiction is right. Eventually people really need to accept that Tom Bombadil and Goldberry were an author's indulgence of Tolkien's, a little cutaway, a nod to himself and his love of story and song, and his beloved wife and her passion for nature. Really, that's it, that's who and what they are. I don't 'need' more of an explanation than that.

Cate Blanchett was incredible and truly iconic as Galadriel. The opening narration in Fellowship of the rings still sends a chill, it is pitch perfect and sets to tone straight away. And when the gang meet her in person she is wise, beautiful, powerful and for a split second terrifying all in a couple of minutes of screen time. What an amazing performance. That trilogy of movies is like the concorde plane or bugatti veyron of film and human achievement of how something can be timeless and truly great.
She was my favorite character in the films, and like you said, had very little screen time. She, more than all other actors, fit my vision of her from the books.
I didn't like her that much. She seemed too forced - like a Satanist pretending to be a Christian or a Marxissist pretending to be normal.
She just wasn't natural, just a pedestal prop with no real character, soul or power - just a pretty trinket to be gawked at by equally soulless manlets.
The other male elves weren't held to the same standards except Legolas & even then, he came across as awkward - which is perfectly fine because he's a young character.
Galadriel's an elderly matron. If it had been acceptable, Michelle Yeoh could've pulled her off as she did with Shu Lien in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
There are very, very few, inspiring, western actresses that have a natural power & grace required for such a role, sadly.
That happens when a team of people make something with actual love and give it their all. Compared to whatever the hell they did with ring's of power.
Throwing money at it and hoping some would stick
"Victory was at hand. But the power of The Ring, could not be undone." So many chills
The Rings of Power Galadriel has one super power: She turns men into misogynists.
I literally yelled "no!" at 6:27. You CAN NOT make a live-action of the song of the Ainur! It's literally the SONG OF CREATION, you can't fucking have some performers on screen singing and do anything other than a mockery of the event. It's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE REALISTIC IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!!

@@MaladjesterIt'll be done as an abstract flashback. perhaps in stop animation.
The only solution - and near as I can tell, it IS the only solution - is to pretend it never happened. I don't know any filmmaker who is up to the task of adapting The Ainulindale. Tolkien, himself, was singularly able to capture the ineffable mystery in words. Nothing else in literature comes close to it, and the infantile narcissists at Amazon are no JRR Tolkien. They will destroy it in favor of political correctness, which I suspect has been the goal all along.
"The Rings of Power" is the TV equivalent of that infamous Jesus fresco botch-up in Spain. Just like that lady, who enthusiastically but cluelessly turned a revered Jesus painting into a laughable blob, the creators of this show have desecrated Tolkien's legacy. With a blend of overzealous cluelessness and artistic butchery, they've reduced a revered saga to a mockery, proving that some masterpieces should be off-limits to those who can't differentiate between a paintbrush and a sledgehammer.

Absolutely, I refuse to even hate watching most woke crap but instead get hours of fun with my trusted CZcamsrs; coincidentally I am quite sure none will be in rotten tomatoes getting 50$ a review.
If anyone hasn’t figured it out yet. They aren’t actually trying to make a good show or tell a good story. They could care less. They are activists and their goal is to take beloved masculine franchises and destroy them. The latest show for this to happen to was true detective season 4. I can’t even begin to tell you.. they made sure to tie it into season 1 in an attempt to ruin season 1 because that was the most successful season that feminists hated. They know that they will still make enough money to continue the process because people who loved the books, previous movies, previous seasons will still tune in with hope. We should essentially all boycott watching any new shows and have a small group of people watch and decide whether it is woke garbage or not.

She was widowed long ago when her ex-husband tripped and fell while on a walk with his young mistress. Shelob will also be played by a black woman. You could say, she will play the role of a.... black widow....
Or the tragedy of her mother the ungoliant
“A long time ago, toxic straight white men came into her humble home. After attempting peaceful resolutions, she had no other choice but to defend herself…”

For a long time, she was the "pet" and lover of the Dark Lord, until he cast her aside and forced her into the mountains. Since that day, the distraught Shelob sought to take revenge on Sauron and paid no heed to his demands, letting her brood spread beyond Cirith Ungol..."

4chan can be hit or miss with their leaks, but when they hit it's usually spot on. The Tolkien scholar describing these plot points as "garbage fan theory" really hits the mark for Rings of Power perfectly. That makes it completely believable.
What Amazon does isn’t thinking outside the box so much as stealing the box and hitting their opponents with it until they stop moving.
If they now have the Silmarillion- then they no longer have a single excuse to not film it as it was written by Tolkien!!!!!
Amazon also pulled the same treatment on the Wheel of Time show. Utterly destroyed the work of Jordan.
They angered me in the first episode when they didn't even mention that Ungoliant was the one who drained the trees. But, I thought to myself, "Stick with it. Maybe it gets better. They don't have the rights to some of the material." Then, I keep saying to myself, "Where the hell is Celeborn? Where are their children?" I finally tapped out when they had the episode I like to call, "They took our jobs!" You know the one. Where there's almost a riot in the market. Because there's exactly one elf on the whole island. *One* elf.
She was just so industrious that it threatened them immediately into bankruptcy because Numinorians are very fragile…
@@vincentb2175 But it also makes no sense if you read the lore about Numenor and the relationship they had with the elves. It makes no sense together with all other aspects of the show. The forced LA diversity in the show - whether in Numenor or amongst the elves, the hobbits or the dwarves, and whether with the illogical multiculturalism in the villages of humans in "Mordor" - that shouldn't be there - and the populations of humans in the southern parts and the eastern parts of ME who should be the Easterlings and Haradrim, but they are not there because these populations - that are based in the history of Europe being invaded from the south and the east during the middle ages and in subsequent centuries are all "problematic" according to the moronic American showrunners. This show is the absolutely worst kind of cultural appropriation. This is a European and English mythology and was created with that intent by Tolkien.
The ridiculous, forced "LA diverse" and Americanized cast should have been the first thing to anger you, because that was what showed that they never had the intention to create an authentic adaptation of Tolkien's works. They wanted to subvert his works and culturally appropriate them from the very start.
Especially as elves certainly did not want to live among humans as they either preferred solitude or company of their own kind, and they would be puzzled about the idea of having a 24/7 job. Elves will never certainly seek to integrate into human society and never felt the need to.
Elf master smith is better than any human could ever be in the craft, true, but elvish motive is to make things for the beauty of the thing itself, not to sell it and profit.
Much more reasonable - though still pretty foolish - would be to say that dwarven merchants can hold unhealthy monopoly in regards of certain precious metals.
I knew it was trash when the opening monologue broke canon more times than I can count on one hand. I struggled through a couple of more episodes, but I'm too old for that. Like hitting oneself with a hammer, it felt so good when I stopped.
That theory of melkor and ungoliant being Tom bombadil and goldberry blew my mind. I have never heard such an asinine thing in all my life when the pair being as fair apart as they are.
This is the first time I’ve heard of it and find it really hard to believe that is a fan theory. I am of the opinion that those people who come up with theories, are usually really intelligent and lore educated people to make those guesses. That theory is too dumb to have come from anyone with respect for the material.
At this point I'm convinced it's an excuse they use in the writer's room: "Where'd this idea come from? ....Oh, It's a fan theory, we might want to go with it." When, in actuality, no fan ever said such a thing. It was their own dumb idea, but they won't take ownership of it.
Indeed. Tom bombadil is the definition of benevolent. Makes absolutely NO sense to compare the two.
And how is Tom Bombadil and Goldberrys lifestyle a punishment of any kind?
i've heard it, but only from the kind of pop culture tourists who will say anything just to fit in. It's usually the last you ever hear of them in the Tolkien space after it gets explained to them that Morgoth is chained away beyond the stars as punishment for what he did and will remain there until the final age of Middle Earth... Tolkien actually wrote that, so there is no arguing what he really meant by it.
Tom and Goldberry were Melkor and Ungoliant all along!? What ... the ... .absolute ... total ... ? Words fail me ...
I believe the whole point of making the series so badly is to keep people from ever wanting to look at the source material. These folks detest goodness, truth and beauty. They don't mind looking incompetent as long as it accomplishes the above purpose.
Do you think that was the secret plan with Robyn Hood? I’m mystified how something that wouldn’t pass middle school drama class standard actually got up.
why would someone do such a thing? What kind of person would be heavily involved in hollywood AND also want to destroy culture/history?
That clip of Peter Jackson explaining the importance of professor tolkein, & the key themes of the lord of the rings.
All of that would fly right over the head of the activists at Amazon.
They don't even understand what they hate.
You thankthe dumbing down of education.
The good news for us, the audience, is that we're under no obligation to acknowledge the existence of this show.
I know it's hard to believe she felled an ice troll but she did. In under 10 seconds
I hope they spend another Billion dollars on this upcoming bilge 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rings of Power be like:
"One Neuron to find them all, and in the darkness bind them."
This is the single solitary braincell shared amongst everyone responsible for this mess.
Once that braincell goes, they're finished.
A hot wing stand called Wings of Power located in the Amazon parking lot would make more money
Damn Russian Lord of the Rings looks 10x better than RoP.
The real question is for how long Amazon can keep losing money over expensive tv shows that spit on the creator’s face and that have a 63% viewership drop from the first to final episode?
The answer is simple: how many extra prime subs does it generate? Lots. For reasons passing understanding, the show was widely panned, views were awful, but prime subs surfed. Go figure
Forever. This is a drop in the bucket for them.
NOT ABOUT MONEY FFS!!!
They can lose ALOT Amazon makes millions a week
as long as people keep buying the Chinese junk they sell
I actually have a friend who's defended this series and tried to convince me the ignition of Mt Doom was totally in line with Tolkiens vision. Can't make this up....
We need to give your friend a platform. I really would love to hear it, but only because the comment section would be soooo entertaining.
Is he/she still your friend?
I have a friend like that too, but he's just in denial. He's so sad they messed this up, but won't admit it's actually a problem
Seriously
Tbh, my acquaintances convinced me to watch episode 1 the same way. It was awful. Then I found out they never read or watched LOTR + The Hobbit. =v=;
Finishing a show without the showrunners have to be a strong indicator of how easily their job can be done by someone elses position....
Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!

a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!
Death! Death! Death!
Forth Eorlingas!
The best thing about the rings of power was my discovery of Nerdodic and everyone. I thought I was alone thinking something was up with this show before it came out and now I'm not sad watching it. Thanks!
Celeborn presumed dead? Sauron inpersonating Celeborn so he can be with Galadriel again? Real Celeborn finally returing just when fake Celeborn and Galadriel are rekindling their realationship? Did Amazon secretly hired writers from Days Of Our Lives?😉
😂😂😂
Sounds like a ripoff of Excalibur, where Uther commands Merlin to disguise him as Igraine's dead husband, so he can have sex with her.
Ha, bonus points if real Celeborn bumped his head and has amnesia!
@@user-if1ki6rn5ubonus bonus points if the real Celeborn wanks in the corner watching her trying to seduce Sauron while he keeps on playing WOW (horde, of course) on a games console.
Sound like a plot for NTR - Netorare of The Ring
What they’ve done to Tolkien’s life work genuinely hurts my heart. This series is completely devoid of any sort of moral themes that were essential to his storytelling. To see it dumbed down to this nonsense pandering is a slap in the face to both J.R.R. and Christopher.
The big problem with a second season of a failed first season is that anybody who didn't watch it gave up on the first will not be there for the second. How do they think this will make money??
They don't care, they'll just put prime subscription up and add ad's to their vidya service ( which is already happening). They just got a lot of money to burn and taxes to avoid at this point.
I loved the part last season, when Galadriel said, "I am here to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I'm all out of bubblegum."
When she looked into the magic mirror and said “don’t have time to play with myself”, I wept for 9 moon cycles.
And then clapped her red shoes and went back to Kansas, what a performance! Such a script!!
Oscar worthy shit right there lmfao
I'm here to kick ash nazg durbatulûk and chew lembas bread. And I'm all out of lembas
Saruman: "Whom do you serve?"
Mr. Krabs, I mean Bezos: "Money!"
WHY in heaven's name would making a Tolkien show leading ANYONE in their right fucking mind to think that it should "reflect the world we live in"? It's a Mythical Fantasy world that has NOTHING to do with the world we live in! It's an epic tale of an ENTIRELY made-up world. A fantasy world that was specifically and meticulously crafted by a literary genius that Millions, maybe a BILLION people worldwide love, JUST LIKE IT WAS WRITTEN!!!
What The Critical Drinker calls "The Message" seems to ruin everything it touches.
What a freaking mess this will be 🤮
I love to see big companies fail making things they think people want
Its worse than that, they think they can train people to think and act the way they want...the arrogance and ignorance goes way deeper.
They arent failing at anything, its all intentional. Go look at the top 3 shareholders of disney to understand all this woke culture.
Ego and a big wallet. Big investment, big money to produce and nothing to show for it besides laughter.
@@dihatzhs More thinking like this.
But they DON'T think we want it. They think we want old-fashioned racist misogynist patriarchal colonial capitalistic stuff.
They think it's their responsibility to preach at us and change our ways.
I despise the hellscape that is California. And I'm not even American.

Professor Tolkien was very specific on why there is no clear and concise origin to Tom Bombadil and Goldberry: Not everything gets a neatly wrapped explanation. The world is full of mystery, both good and evil, as the origin of Ungoliant is vague as well. He is allowing the readers to use their imagination. Professor Tolkien was also VERY Catholic. When something does not have a clear answer in Catholicism, you take it on faith, as a Divine Mystery. In this case: Only Eru knows what Tom, Goldberry, and Ungoliant really are.
I just don't understand how all these companies and their CEOs can be so utterly stupid. How did they even got to the position they are in now when they are so dumb is beyond me. Stupidity really rules the world.
I have a theory that behind it all is a shadowy group of people just making BANK short selling all these companies.
"Hey jim.. next week we are making Melkor a Trans lesbian."
"Haha good one, let's short it $100 this time?"
@@jonmcnamara There must be something behind for sure because nobody is THAT dumb. Most of all people that care only about money.
Because they won't pander to racists and bigots?
They are activists. It isn’t about money or making a good show. They are intentionally taking beloved masculine franchises and destroying them. They just did this with “true detective” season 4. They made sure to tie it to season 1 which was the best season and also the season femenists hated most. They are trying to destroy our culture and the film industry is just one avenue in this systematic process.
it's not stupidity, it's subversion
When all the worthless male elves were staring at Guyladriel after she killed the ice troll, and she says, “It’s all in the reflexes” was flat out movie magic! I cried
I loved the part when sauron did a swan dive off of barad dur while shouting "its ringing time m'lords!"
Kurt Russell did it first, thank god!
There are two high points from 2022 - I still had 0 vaccine shots up to this day and I, also up to this day, havent seen a single episode from Rings of Power
"Do you know why the shi-t floats and does not sink ? Its got no substance."
I refuse to let this series into my head canon.
The rumor about Tom Bombadil actually being memory-wiped Melkor was what upset me most. And I didn't think ROP could find new ways to upset me!
Oh no no no he likes music........................................... Damn it I didn't think lotr could get roont for me. I mean he has to go somewhere right? He can't just die can he? He's part of "the song". If I could go back in time that's another old man I'm going to kick in the shins. Think about it. Why can't they bring him? Why does the ring have no power over him? Vader: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Don't you give Bezos any ideas!
I loved the part where Galadriel climbed to the top of the mountain and claimed "there can only be one!" before cutting off Sauron's head. Classic.
Someone told me the leaks were bad. I didn’t expect it to be THIS bad.
I’ll admit these Rings of Power reviews are the most fun that came out of that series, I’m actually excited for it!

I agree. In fact I'm a bit disappointed that there will not be a season 2 of Shehulk tbh. The was cringe intersectionalist feminist gold.
The only way to save Rings of Prime is to add TWO ROBOTS and a CHEESEHEAD to sit in the front row.
The theory that Tom Bombadil is Morgoth is insane. The Valar threw Morgoth beyond the Doors of Night, ensuring he could not return to the world until the end of the world. Also it is said that Ungoliant devoured herself when she got too hungry.
Who knows what kind of weed these people were smoking when they came up with that idea. Even Old Toby can't be THAT potent.
Not only do those ideas sound absurd they sound boring as hell. Beloved Celeborn? She mentioned him once to a boy is all I can remember. Then again, I wasn't really paying attention to it. I stopped paying attention at the 'Do you know why a ship floats....'
if they wanted to they could have got the rights to the tale of Beren and Luthien, its a slam dunk because it's a story of an OP elf chick saving her bumbling human boyfriend multiple times, defeating Sauron in a sing-off (canonically accurate) and riding a giant dog as a horse. Also there's a part where she transforms into a vampire and her boyfriend into a werewolf so you get to cover that fan base as well.. not sure how they somehow managed to miss that.
Luthien is clearly a strong female character. Not RoP Galadriel.
Because they’re out to destroy well known brands not to build them up, and also do you think the producers have ever heard of Beren or Luthien? You think they actually read any of the books? Lmao
@@DSVN23 yeah, I don't think so 😂
The producers won't make a movie about Beren and Luthién simply because they did what they had to because of love. Unless it's a girlboss doing shit for power and glory, with a sprinkling of the greater good in the balance, they don't care. Also, I don't believe these Hollyweird writers could understand the depth of Tolkien's works
Please no, enough with this madnes!!
They've cast Rishi Sunak as Sauron!! 👀
"If felt only natural that an adaptation of Tolkien's work would reflect what the world actually looks like" - Lindsey Weber. So two things: 1) Tolkien despised allegory and said (and wrote) so several times, if I am not mistaken there is even a FILMED interview where he says as much; 2) Is she implying that in the 20th century there were wizards and various races of humanoids and monsters and magic?
That phrase alone is a huge indicator of the quality, or lack thereof, of the people running this show. I have to admit: to have missed so spectacularly is in itself quite an accomplishment. Bonkers. I genuinely hope it fails and gets cancelled because it really is terrible.
I dunno, I could kind of enjoy a Season 2 that plays as a sitcom where Sauron keeps donning increasingly elaborate disguises to try to sneak into Eregion, Count Olaf-style.
Even though I'm completely detached from this train wreck of a show, hearing the article say that Tom Bombadil and Goldberry are actually Melkor and Ungoliant made me wince. I don't think even the most deranged fan, blackout drunk AND high could come up with a theory that stupid.
I LOVE IT. THIS MUST HAPPEN and we should riot if it doesn't.
What ? They can't be - Melkor is stuck in the Void. And Ungoliant is (probably) self-devoured.
If the Estate signed off on it... I'm wondering if it's a red herring.
Forget, for a moment, that the "theory" is excrement in its own right. Melkor isn't dead. He was defeated at the end of the War of Wrath, bound with the chain Angainur and thrust through the Doors of Night into the Void. This is explicit in The Silmarillion. So, just...no.
Giving Sauron any type of human face/form really takes away from his mystique, let alone some goofy looking dude who has a ZERO intimidation factor
Yea that new Indian guy they have cast has some googley eyes
@@AaronK-ef8yv Yeah it's more weird than anything
they can't have a man look manly and intimidating. That's toxic masculinity, the wahmen are scared of that
Well tbf, I’m pretty sure in the books Sauron is a shapeshifter and did indeed disguise himself as a very handsome elf (in Tolkien’s books ALL of the elves are described as fair or handsome). Thats how he was able to deceive people to take the rings. Problem is, this is arguably the worst casting I’ve ever seen in a show. Everyone is ugly as fck and don’t fit the universe at all. I really hate to be mean about it, but when compared to Peter Jackson which used a fraction of the budget, these people are whack and don’t fit in at all.
My favorite part of season 1 was when the troll appears behind Galadriel and she says "Its right behind me...isn't it?" Brilliant writing
“ and for Frodo, a bottle of tears from an ice troll! “
I almost choked! 🤣🤣🤣
I hope that Sauron will finally solve the Harfoot question. They didnt get kicked out of over 100 kingdoms for no reason.
Wait, are you talking the Irish walking caravans of hobbits? Were they supposed to be Jewish too? Lmao
I refuse to believe that Tolkien, a staunch Catholic who resisted the changes of the Mass after 1970, until the day he died, would be very thrilled to see what his Lore has become, with Amazon.
The really sad thing is that these amateur dramatic club renditions of his work might put people off reading his books.
Christopher Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien's son, was extremely critical of Peter Jackson's LoTR series. I wonder what he would think if he could see this abomination of a show (he died in 2020).
They will double down.. it's because they actually think they're right. At least we'll all get to laugh at them again.
These rumors sound like the foretelling of the apocalypse.
I’m looking forward to seeing Galadriel crush the Terminator after conceiving John Connor with Celeborn/Sauron.
Why is she so angry?
"It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien's work would reflect what the world actually looks like" - Lindsay Weber, at 9:10
Of course. That's what Tolkien is famous for, after all. The strict, materialistic realism. The man was nothing, if not a naturalist. He strived to accurately portray the reality of the 2024 Hollywood Starbucks scene in minute detail. Of course, that would make him a futurist, as well. Truly a man of great talent!
The fact is, outside of the US and some international metropolises, most of the World has very limited diversity. In China, most people are used to almost always being surrounded exclusively by Chinese people, of the local ethnicity. Similar for most of the rest of Asia, most of Africa, and even most of Europe. Even where there's significant immigration, most immigrants settle in the cities. Quite simply, what the World truly looks like, to the vast majority of its inhabitants, is nothing like the inside of a Hollywood Starbucks. When they sit down to see a show based on European mythology, they expect to see people looking like Europeans. If anything, they'll be more disappointed than European Tolkien fans; after all, I can just step outside and see as many palefaces as I can handle. In my case, the disappointment would be greater if I sat down to watch a show based on Xhosa mythology, and it was crawling with white, Asian, Hispanic, and other non-Xhosa looking characters.
Now, why don't Hollywood make itself useful for a change, and make a show based on African, Asian, or other non-European mythology and fantasy. I know for a damn fact that it exists, and I want it! Keep it free of diversity, and don't put a gay chick in it, dammit!
Exactly my words. I wonder why only films and/or TV series based on european history/legends/mythology must reflects USA of 21st century?
But the world doesn't look the way Lindsay Weber think it does. This is just an excuse to to remove white people from screen. It's a deliberate ideology, removing native Europeans and native British people from their own cultural properties. It's happening in all major franchises and in almost everything that is coming out of Hollywood as well as in other mainstream industries. They are deliberately culturally appropriating European legends and mythologies as well as European history and it's part of a wider political ideology, the same one that supports open border policies and mass migration from third world countries that is now putting the entire European continent and its native populations at risk. It's not just the major cities, the UK is in a serious problem with mass immigration because of corrupt British governments going back to the 1950's and 1960's which is where this whole ideology started and originates from. The open border policies of the unelected officials from the EU - and of local governments - have been disastrous to the continent, especially to counties like France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Germany, Belgium and Scandinavian countries like Sweden and Norway. This ideology is now being pushed in western entertainment and it goes hand in hand with the political policies of the corrupt "establishment" in the UK and in the EU.
Dude, here in Pakistan we really don’t give a shit if a character’s white, brown, orange, yellow or whatever the fuck. If it’s a good character, we like em, if not, we don’t. Idk what y’all westerners are on with the forced diversity
Really, they could have just gone and made a show about Rhûn or something if they wanted people of darker hue. No need to go straight for the elves and muck stuff up.
"It feels only natural to someone with half a brain that Tolkien's work would reflect the world that Tolkien envisaged." - The real fans.
Isn't it surprising that, the "fair" form of Sauron is played by a brown colored actor whereas the "evil" sauron looks like an ordinary white guy?
Subtle messages like this is serious people. It's not paranoia if someone is really out there to get you.
I will never understand the maniacal need shows and movies have to deviate from source material, it’s almost like there’s a reason we like said source material…
If only I could hurt this show the way it had hurt us...
you can, in the only way possible. NOT ONE PENNY towards Amazon Prime. Loss of coin is the only message they ever understand.
11:34 Why was he not fired on sight!?!?
It's unbelievable these hacks were given a billion dollars to shred when it was *obvious* from get-go they were going to fail. With the lack of talent, terrible attitude towards the fans, bad writing, crappy costumes and complete contempt towards the source material, what did they expect was going to happen?
Money laundering
Surely one of the best defintions of fantasy is that it is a genre that does not represent the world of today? Where do these people think the word 'fantastic' comes from?
But it doesn't even represent the world today. The world is not what these radical activists are trying to portray it as.
This is all genuinely depressing. All of the pieces are there. The greatest piece of world building literature probably ever written, a billion dollar budget and the brand recognition to be able to pull just about any actor who’s actually serious about their craft and yet the idea of a second season is incapable of manifesting any thoughts but disaster for what’s to come. It is not only pathetic it is actually painful that they are incapable of doing anything right. You could make a season of television with a single bite sized chunk of Tolkien’s world I just don’t have words to describe how vitriolic these people are because they literally cannot be dumb enough to be ignorant so my only conclusion is that their actions are sinisterly intentional
