I think that's such a stupid theory. Calling it fanfiction is right. Eventually people really need to accept that Tom Bombadil and Goldberry were an author's indulgence of Tolkien's, a little cutaway, a nod to himself and his love of story and song, and his beloved wife and her passion for nature. Really, that's it, that's who and what they are. I don't 'need' more of an explanation than that.

Cate Blanchett was incredible and truly iconic as Galadriel. The opening narration in Fellowship of the rings still sends a chill, it is pitch perfect and sets to tone straight away. And when the gang meet her in person she is wise, beautiful, powerful and for a split second terrifying all in a couple of minutes of screen time. What an amazing performance. That trilogy of movies is like the concorde plane or bugatti veyron of film and human achievement of how something can be timeless and truly great.

I didn't like her that much. She seemed too forced - like a Satanist pretending to be a Christian or a Marxissist pretending to be normal.
She just wasn't natural, just a pedestal prop with no real character, soul or power - just a pretty trinket to be gawked at by equally soulless manlets.
The other male elves weren't held to the same standards except Legolas & even then, he came across as awkward - which is perfectly fine because he's a young character.
Galadriel's an elderly matron. If it had been acceptable, Michelle Yeoh could've pulled her off as she did with Shu Lien in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
There are very, very few, inspiring, western actresses that have a natural power & grace required for such a role, sadly.

Tolkien, himself, was singularly able to capture the ineffable mystery in words. Nothing else in literature comes close to it, and the infantile narcissists at Amazon are no JRR Tolkien. I can’t even begin to tell you.. they made sure to tie it into season 1 in an attempt to ruin season 1 because that was the most successful season that feminists hated. They know that they will still make enough money to continue the process because people who loved the books, previous movies, previous seasons will still tune in with hope. It's usually the last you ever hear of them in the Tolkien space after it gets explained to them that Morgoth is chained away beyond the stars as punishment for what he did and will remain there until the final age of Middle Earth... Tolkien actually wrote that, so there is no arguing what he really meant by it.

The world is full of mystery, both good and evil, as the origin of Ungoliant is vague as well. He is allowing the readers to use their imagination. Professor Tolkien was also VERY Catholic. When something does not have a clear answer in Catholicism, you take it on faith, as a Divine Mystery. In this case: Only Eru knows what Tom, Goldberry, and Ungoliant really are.

"It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien's work would reflect what the world actually looks like" - Lindsay Weber, at 9:10
Of course. That's what Tolkien is famous for, after all. The strict, materialistic realism. The man was nothing, if not a naturalist. He strived to accurately portray the reality of the 2024 Hollywood Starbucks scene in minute detail. Of course, that would make him a futurist, as well. Truly a man of great talent!
The fact is, outside of the US and some international metropolises, most of the World has very limited diversity. In China, most people are used to almost always being surrounded exclusively by Chinese people, of the local ethnicity. Similar for most of the rest of Asia, most of Africa, and even most of Europe. Even where there's significant immigration, most immigrants settle in the cities. Quite simply, what the World truly looks like, to the vast majority of its inhabitants, is nothing like the inside of a Hollywood Starbucks. When they sit down to see a show based on European mythology, they expect to see people looking like Europeans. If anything, they'll be more disappointed than European Tolkien fans; after all, I can just step outside and see as many palefaces as I can handle. In my case, the disappointment would be greater if I sat down to watch a show based on Xhosa mythology, and it was crawling with white, Asian, Hispanic, and other non-Xhosa looking characters.
Now, why don't Hollywood make itself useful for a change, and make a show based on African, Asian, or other non-European mythology and fantasy. I know for a damn fact that it exists, and I want it! Keep it free of diversity, and don't put a gay chick in it, dammit!

But the world doesn't look the way Lindsay Weber think it does. This is just an excuse to to remove white people from screen. It's a deliberate ideology, removing native Europeans and native British people from their own cultural properties. It's happening in all major franchises and in almost everything that is coming out of Hollywood as well as in other mainstream industries. They are deliberately culturally appropriating European legends and mythologies as well as European history and it's part of a wider political ideology, the same one that supports open border policies and mass migration from third world countries that is now putting the entire European continent and its native populations at risk. It's not just the major cities, the UK is in a serious problem with mass immigration because of corrupt British governments going back to the 1950's and 1960's which is where this whole ideology started and originates from. The open border policies of the unelected officials from the EU - and of local governments - have been disastrous to the continent, especially to counties like France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Germany, Belgium and Scandinavian countries like Sweden and Norway. This ideology is now being pushed in western entertainment and it goes hand in hand with the political policies of the corrupt "establishment" in the UK and in the EU.

Dude, here in Pakistan we really don’t give a shit if a character’s white, brown, orange, yellow or whatever the fuck. If it’s a good character, we like em, if not, we don’t. Idk what y’all westerners are on with the forced diversity

Really, they could have just gone and made a show about Rhûn or something if they wanted people of darker hue. No need to go straight for the elves and muck stuff up.

Isn't it surprising that, the "fair" form of Sauron is played by a brown colored actor whereas the "evil" sauron looks like an ordinary white guy?

This is all genuinely depressing. All of the pieces are there. The greatest piece of world building literature probably ever written, a billion dollar budget and the brand recognition to be able to pull just about any actor who’s actually serious about their craft and yet the idea of a second season is incapable of manifesting any thoughts but disaster for what’s to come. It is not only pathetic it is actually painful that they are incapable of doing anything right. You could make a season of television with a single bite sized chunk of Tolkien’s world I just don’t have words to describe how vitriolic these people are because they literally cannot be dumb enough to be ignorant so my only conclusion is that their actions are sinisterly intentional
