    I have 4 of these. I also found these to be a little thin in the bass. When I started to get closer to reference level, the bass got muddy. I pulled the drivers and packed the cabinet with double polly fill on all the walls. The bass tightened up, and the mids came to life.. These now sound much more refined..

At the time they weren't the latest or greatest in their line but the specs seemed a good fit for what I wanted. Anyway this seller on Amazon had them on sale at $219 each but the day I happened to see them it said 50% off.....so basically got the pair BOGO. With tax $233 for the pair! Love a good deal.

    I have the powered version of these along with the r-100sw subwoofer. They sound pretty good. This was my first time buying a "real" sound system, and through these I've realized that I've only scratched the surface of the audio world. There are so many brands and options out there. It will be fun to explore more, but in the meantime I'll be putting some more mileage on what I've got so far. Gotta wait until my wallet is a bit thicker before I make any next steps.

      @@cheapaudioman I have these r51m on order. Debating if I should return them for either the keff q150 or klipsch rp500m or maybe the 600. how would the r51m with an added subwoofer compare to the rp600. I would also be using these to build a 5.1 system for movies and games. Do you have any opinion on how the reference series compares to the reference premiere as in a home theater standpoint? Thanks. Side not I currently have the Sony core series tower speakers and find them a little dull. They just seem like there missing the exitement which is why I went with the klipsch reference series I did hook the Sony bookshelf’s up to a 70s pioneer sx450 I have and found the sound stage to sound way better than the towers. Not sure if it’s the different receiver I’m using or a tower vs bookshelf thing. I Will have to try the bookshelfs with the Sony reciever I’m using with the towers.

I have owned over 25 and have never found greater value than these 51's by Klipsch. I had a more expensive pr of Klipsch that was using and when i heard the 51's switched the old speakers to movies and created a new system for vinyl. i use a Marantz 5005 amp and a Rega p3 and my old and new vinyl never sounded better. these speakers are a good buy at 300. a pr.

      Tom I bought my component system in the heyday of vintage audio, mostly phase linear stuff, but my all-time favorite speakers were the HPM 100s from Pioneer. I had owned JBLs and Kenwood, Sony, Sansui, JVC, Marantz and Sherwood but the HPM 100s were hands down my favorite. I can't say they don't make them like they used to because I know nothing of current speaker offerings (I'm a headphone only guy) but in the early and mid seventies, the market was flush with some of the best ever built.
      I pretty much trust Randy to guide me should I ever consider standing speakers again.

    Well due to the fact that this video is one year old, I am not going to feel so bad beings I just bought these speakers the other day for $225 so I’m gonna tell myself I feel good that it’s not a bad price due to inflation,still waiting for them to arrive I made my decision partially based on your other review that you speak about in this which I had watched last week when you say a good rock speaker, that’s music to my ears, I will be purchasing them as side surround in my home theater system that I’m trying to put together which I am utilizing Klipsch towers, centers with same woofer tweeter combo and week on base is fine as my spl100 should handle that. And because I already have them. Fluance bipoles for rear speakers. Thanks for your review. It helps to hear a review from someone that likes the same style music, some might hear the bad in this review I only heard the good hopefully they will work out well in my system

    So I'm slumming at yard sales a couple of months ago and stopped at a place that had a lot of stereo stuff on the tables. They had an older sixty dollar Sony receiver with these speakers for 100 bucks. I got them down to 85 dollars and got it loaded into my car before they realized their mistake. I gave this system to my daughter and when I went over after she set it up, I was mega impressed with the sound. I had flirted with Klipsch speakers when stationed in Germany but never bought any. I was impressed at how such an inexpensive speaker could sound so good. I now understand what they mean by the Klipsch sound.

  • @greatirishday
    @greatirishday Před 3 lety +1

    @cheapaudioman, can I get your take on this? I'm a little new to audio and surround sound systems, and just made a few purchases to set up a new system in a house I'm moving into. Best Buy had a bunch of Klipsch speakers on sale last week, so I went with the RP-600M for front L&R, R-34-C as center channel, R-100SW 10" sub, and these R-51M as my L&R surround. Do you think these R-51M will do well in the side L&R positions as part of this 5.1 setup for general tv, movie and music listening? I know a lot may be dependent on the room, which is a medium to large living room and kitchen combined area, but overall what do you think about using a speaker like this not as the main L&R in front but to the side as the L&R surrounds in a 5.1 setup? Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks.

    • @bumkrilla5339
      @bumkrilla5339 Před 2 lety

      I know this is late but I've been into audio for a very long time most important speakers is the center channel then your mains your mains are only important if you listen to music if you are 50/50 with music and home theater towers are a must you don't technically need towers if you have a subwoofer but since it's only 1 10inch sub then I'd still go with towers I run 2 10inch subs that being said surrounds only does special effect noises honestly nothing worth spending $300 dollars or more for unless you want everything to match and look good but if you don't care about that surrounds speakers don't need to be the best but klipsch r51 are excellent for surrounds if you are struggling with dialog it will be your center its a fine center that you have but since you have rp600 towers they are alot stronger so it can drown out the dialog from center because the center plays like 80% of all dialog I'd really recommend to match center with mains the very best set up the mais and center should be the exact same speaker

    • @greatirishday
      @greatirishday Před 2 lety

      @@bumkrilla5339 Thanks, as it turns out, these Klipsch R51s are good for my left and right surrounds, even if they're a little more than needed for that. I got them at such a good sale price from Best Buy that it didn't make sense to go with smaller speakers that would have cost more in those positions. But I definitely agree with you on the importance of the center channel speaker - at least that's what I've learned from using my new setup, and if I upgrade anything it will be my center channel. I've had times where the dialogue level for tv and movies doesn't seem to be as good it should be. Hasn't been that noticeable, but there are times I thinks its been an issue. I've really liked the RP600s at front left and right positions. I also bought a second sub, so the two 10" subs and the rest of the setup really rocks when I'm turning up the music. Thanks for your feeback, I really agree with you about the center channel.

    But in seriousness, this is one of the defining reasons I purchased these speakers was detail without being picky about tow-in, along with small enough dimensions for sitting where the old ones were (2 ft clearance on either side of a 27" CRT TV). Six months later and I'm still perfectly content with them, a fine pair of speakers for $200 CAD and change. They even pull music duty on occasion.

      I learned that most of the complaints about these speakers were from people placing them in way too big environments. My daughter made the same mistake with these speakers. These are made for more intimate spaces, so if you are trying to make them work in a cavernous room, of course you are going to be disappointed. Not the fault of the speaker. Of course, that's how you learn. You should see the amount of money I spent on headphones without really doing proper research. I spent thousands before I discovered a three hundred set of Airmotivs sounded pretty much as good, if not better than the Audeze.

For what I paid, KEY WORD "PAID", in my room, they gave those Ultra Bookshelf speakers a run for the money, ;-) especially with the dual subs. Without the subs... Thanks, man. Been very humbling for me to see the response from everyone.

    I don't think it'd be boring if all the people loved the same things. Everybody would know what's been talked about. There'd be no way to hide ignorance and incompetence behind:"well, I like it that way"... (like little kids who, after they fall from the bike say:"I did it on purpose!").
    However, since there's no easy way of choosing the mainstream view on a given matter, I propose my point of view!
    Firstly- it was me who first came out with the proposal. Secondly,- I'm right and you're wrong!
    Any objections?
    Fine, than, it's settled!
