When I started playing, someone suggested that I watch FPO to learn how to be a better player. If I watch coverage, 80% of it is FPO, but I don’t feel as if it has improved my game. But, now I get it. Thank you. This analysis was wonderful. It’s not watching these players that would improve my game, but understanding their choices on the tee pad/fairway. David, you have come so far as a content creator. What a difference from even 9 months ago. Keep it up.

Most players who play disc golf are going to realize that the amount of energy they get on the disc is closer to the female pros than the male pro’s .
Totally agree with your first point. One thing some may not realize is how uphill hole 3 and 4 are. That’s also going to make your disc act more stable. So a neutral to understable disc is the right disc for an AM in that situation.
Awesome content. More tournament breakdowns or walk throughs would be awesome. Too often we get vids that are just highlighting big shots without breaking down the smaller stuff.

2 other things I thought of/noticed.
Slower discs are less sensitive to nose angle so especially ams that struggle with that can learn to use slower discs when shaping a fairway.
Second, Kristin avoided throwing patent pending backhands when she could. I can think of 2 examples where she could have forced a patent pending backhand that could have allowed her to save par but she just putts or chips fh into the fairway and executes the shots from there to get up and down. A lot of us ams have those shots we know we aren’t good at. We don’t need all the shots or to press our luck like some MPO do
Interesting... I didn't notice about her not throwing patent pending shots! And totally agree about the nose angle... For a lot of players, they really shouldn't be throwing distance drivers unless they have the space for mistakes... Because they are so difficult to throw correctly, not just with arm speed!
Great breakdown. The only thing I would add to the last part about approaching with danger to the left. If you want to backhand a shot, throw a putter but not just any putter a flippy putter like a PA-5. I agree that forehand is the play but not all are comfortable with that shot, this would be an alternative. * Looks fairly calm but apply common sense if windy.
Agreed, the percentage game is tricky because its different for everyone! If your forehand is significantly worse than your backhand then the backhand might be the high percentage shot for you, even if you risk the water.

Dude, I would love to play some courses all over California! Hopefully I will eventually be able to travel some to get to some other courses around the country... Because there are a lot of different places I would go!
The biggest thing that I see am level golfers is Hero Shots specially on par 3s. If you are out of position, you need to get back into position immediately and take pressure off your upshot and Putt. I have seen too many turn what was a bogey in to a double or triple.

How do you go about trying to add more understable stuff into your bag when you play somewhere with a lot of wind at play? I've pretty much just built a bag for overstable wind play. Cheers
So many people need to learn the lesson of discing down and playing safer shots! I have a friend who outdrives me pretty consistently, but his upshots and putting are pretty bad. Getting yourself in good positions from your drives and taking advantage with the putter is the key, and leaning on fairways and mids is the easiest way to do that for most Ams. You didn't touch on it as much, but another key for Kristin is that she's an absolute lights-out putter when she's on. Not missing much from 40 and in means she doesn't take that many bogeys and doesn't let you back into contention. [Look at Maple Hill. Her putting wasn't very sharp by her standards, and she let leads she usually runs away with slip multiple times.]
Oh yeah... she definitely dominates also because she has the most rounded game by far when taking into account her backhand, forehand, and putting... But telling people to "just get better at throwing the disc" isn't super helpful advice 😂

Tip one is my game, I throw my relay meteor mamba and vanish on same angle different distances with that same flight. I do the same with my 4 hand. Favorite angle and power with 3 different disc
I also do tip 2 but another thing I do is always have the disc land flat or slight Annie unless I need to get way right or left. I even putt with a zone on Annie. Trying to putt with keystones though
FWIW Lykke has said that she prefers to be called Lucky by English-speakers, rather than have people attempt/fail to pronounce her name properly.

Oh yeah for sure! I think understable discs are the best... But they definitely take longer to learn! When the stable discs I can throw in the bag and play a tournament and feel pretty comfortable with them... You can't do that very well with understable discs! You need those in the bag longer to really get to know the flights of it to trust it in many situations... But once you do get to know it... There is nothing better to have in the bag imo!
Point number one, two, and three, Risk vs reward in your shot line.
I would tell most players to start with the Latitude Pearl, a Innova Shark and an MVP Deflector all in a premium plastic in weights 165-175 and learn to throw them flat and see how each disc flys.
Great breakdown. I love throwing Centurions to get distance and shot shapes without worrying about big flare skips. I’ve also found it useful to try throwing slower discs on holes I’ve always assumed I’ve needed distance drivers to reach. So many times distance drivers don’t give you the shot shapes you really need due to the low speed stability or high speed turn they have.
I use a Stag to get a very similar flight as Kristins Saint Pro

Everyone should work to have a forehand chip approach game, it will save you multiple strokes every round. I started off as pure backhand but now I'm almost 100% forehand approach because my misses are less severe.
Yeah from playing ultimate, the forehand chip shots are my favorite! It's just getting off the tee with a forehand that I have troubles with...
Great content. I think you reiterate your points a few times too many but they are powerful points to note. Next year they will definitely be throwing more understable stuff at Brewster, fairways to avoid ob and a forehand upshot into that grade.

@@ApolloDiscGolf it's all good, the way you analyze each of these scenarios is great. it feels totally new out of all content out there. I still watched end to end on the video and thought wow, I don't think we've really had much content that analyzes the disc selection and highlights some learnings that experience can bring.
I also think her play on hole 1 with the explorer had to do with the slope of the hill. If she threw that flat it probably would’ve gotten a bigger skip and probably ob.

The argument for the hyzer flip vs flex shot sounds pretty handy wavy and anecdotal is there any actual study or data that has been shown to prove this is actually the case? Or is it more down to preference and feel than the actual shot selection
i believe the idea of this video is breaking down tattars difference from the field, so in this particular case it's not anecdotal, it's just seeing the choices the champ is making
@@amanatee if you're applying that to a broad strategy, then thats exactly what anecdotal advice is, using one specific case where it works and making a sweeping statement about the concept that applies to everything (i.e. throwing understable is more always a more accurate way to hit a gap)

I don’t know if you need a study for this. Hyzer flips with understable discs fly fairly straight with relatively little fade. They are great for keeping it straight in the woods while adding some distance. Flex shots are used for certain two angle shots in the woods, and sometimes they’re used to curve around trees. Both types of shots have their uses. But a hyzer flip with an understable disc is the accepted way to throw consistently straight in the woods. That’s time established disc golf doctrine. Pros have preferred throwing the hyzer flip in the woods since the 1980s.

I don’t disagree with what your saying. You are right. But “Eliminating the misses” is more than choosing the correct throw or disc. What separates Kristin from the rest is a metal toughness that permits her to be consistently accurate, which is another way of saying she makes very few errors. You can choose the right disc and attempt the exact right throw, but still miss your throw. That’s an execution error that if you’re practiced enough can only be attributed as a mental error.
Who are the other players that have shown ability to make the fewest mistakes? Ken Climo and Paul McBeth. If Tattar continues to play this way for the next few years, she can be considered as the best ever. But right now she hasn’t played at the highest level long enough and won enough. We will see.
It won't be long until she is. Mcbeth is the only one to consider better rn. KC is not a factor in the talks of best of all time.

My discussion is about Kristin, and only about how she relates to Paul and Ken.
To say Climo is not in the discussion without giving reasons is not an argument. It’s a meaningless opinion. Climo easily fits the criteria I mentioned. He played well for a substantial amount of time. In that time he had 230 wins, 18 of which are Majors, and they played less Majors then, than they do now. For anyone to do well in professional disc golf, they must avoid bogeys and make birdies by being consistently accurate. If you don’t, you lose. So you win, by being able to throw the disc where you want it to go. And that is difficult to do consistently, even for most professionals. Yes, Climo did not have as much competition as McBeth, but he still had competition. If he didn’t play consistently well he would have lost much more often. His consistently high level of play is what the record shows. And that’s what makes a great disc golfer, which Kristin is seemingly on the way to being, but a player can’t just be great for two years to be considered the best. Whether Ken is better than Paul, or Paul is better than Ken is another discussion. But you can’t say “The Champ” is not a great disc golfer. He was just too consistently accurate to say otherwise.
Oh yeah! She definitely dominates because of how consistent her shots are and how good of a forehand and putt she has... But I wanted to go over the things that we could easily implement into our games to improve... And the advice of "get a better forehand" or "just putt better" isn't super helpful for a lot of people 😂
