@@jeas4980 doesn't look like it!
blue butterfly pea tea! wink wnink
@@jeas4980 yes...😂 😂
I started these varieties on april !!! Harvesting first paty pans this week!!!
I'm a thirteen year old and after watching your videos you inspired me to start gardening and it's one of the best things I've ever done and I now have 4 raised beds with loads of crops
Love to hear this my friend! You just got a new subscriber to your channel. - Kevin
I just subbed too! What an awesome life you have ahead of you! Im a granny. Been doing it for 40 years now and I still get just as excited to watch everything grow as I did when I was a child❤
Great job! Just remember there isn't anything more important in life than making your own food and getting dirty.
That's awesome!! I wish I would've gotten into gardening earlier, I'm almost 26 now. I'm learning right along side you!
Me too 😅
“It’s May in the garden” - It is April 29th and you know it, Kevin 😂
Shh ;)
Hahaha
Shh ;) I like it
He's from the future and you know it
When was it recorded? ;)
Thank you for having two gardeners in the South East region. It's definitely a 'different animal ' style of gardening
You bet
@@epicgardening Any hopes of eventually having a few more north - far north (canada) gardeners involved?
It really is different lol. I went from Los Angeles to East TN and it’s SO different lol.
You weren't kidding on animal style gardening. The spider mites have already torn up my beautiful cherry tomato plants. It's been 90° down here since March off and on.
South-east Florida gardening is completely different from anywhere else. Most of our veggie growing is in the winter months here. Just an example. Ordering strawberry crowns is a real challenge because by the time we can actually plant/grow them, they've stopped selling for the season.
the fact you feature and elevate other diverse gardeners & garden types is what truly sets this account apart from the rest
Don’t know why I’m seeing Meg hate in the comments. Meg is an incredible presenter and she is so knowledgeable. I’m sure all of these presenters are probably so nervous speaking for such a huge audience as epic. Give them some slack. Go and watch their own channels and you’ll see more of their personalities and fall in love even more. Meg is great. Her content is great. Keep her on. The new ladies did great as well! Been watching epic for years and loving the new format.
Agree. People need to have more grace :)
Meg is awesome! I’ve actually been looking for more videos with her or her own and not finding them. She has such a warm personality and so happy she has been embraced by Epic.
Hi I can't find any meg hate so I Mission Accomplished.
Agreed! Everyone did a great job. I really enjoy seeing the variety of growing styles, gardens, and zones. Keep it up!
@@epicgardeninggrace and humility get us where we want to go. My mid 50’s philosophy is meet people where they are at😊 we are all on our own journey! My husband questions most everything I have done and want to do, in my 0.29 acre suburban yard. I have a mature perennial garden; my love for all the rest started in 2020.. for better mental health 🙂. I now have more seedlings than I know what to do with, a yard that is slowly turning into “ evolving” 🙂.. into a garden. Mine is all hobby, so the only pressure I have is that I put onto myself 😜 I garden in coastal southern Maine, 5b/6a. I love Meg ♥️
We were so delighted to get solid advice from a FLORIDA gardener! Thank you so much for including us! 😎☀🔥
I really like all of your voices. You guys all have very calm, gentle voices that is pleasant to listen to. I know that sounds crazy, but I find that I am enjoying, listening to your content and each one of you have very nice voices- lol am I the only one?
We try to present well!
Presentation is HUGE for me, and I hate people who like to do the shouty "CZcams voice" in their videos. I've gotten rid of so many gardening channel recs for that reason! So yeah, I'm with you! Kevin and Jacques are honestly my two favorites, but now that I'm seeing Meg more often, I really like her presentation style, too!
Thank you for adding these great gardeners to your Epic Family -- wonderful to see various zones represented and these ladies are wonderful gardening communicators!🌱
Our pleasure!
@chicagogardener is my daughter & I’s favorite gardener! It’s our first year gardening & we are only using containers :) I’m so excited to see her on this channel!!
Glad to hear this! She's awesome.
Omg thank you so much!!
I too am a Chicago Gardner but Northwest Chain of Lakes 10 mi from the cheddar curtain waiting to read the great information
The butterfly pea blossom gives Empress 1908 gin its distinct deep indigo hue that changes to bright lavender, soft pink, or fuchsia depending on the mixer.
That stuff is delicious AND pretty. We were lucky to have a g&t with it in the Empress last summer. Both fancy and schmancy.
Do you know where she got them?
@@feenneil Surprisingly not from Botanical Interests. Google it and you'll find plenty of sources.
Oh my gosh! I need to grow the butterfly pea.. my kids are gonna love watching the color change 😄🥂
Shannie! You were my favorite part of baker creek and got me hooked on them. I really missed your fun videos and even searched for you when you left. Good to see you active again!
Getting started turning my lawn into a vegetable garden. A bit late but better than never! Gardening is so rewarding.
Let's get it!
Absolutely, it's a real pleasure!
Love seeing Bethany! I do have a yard, but it's very small. A lot of my flowers and vegetables go into containers. Her experience with small spaces and containers has been invaluable.
Thank you so much!!
Red burgundy okra is one of the most beautiful summer crops. Interesting note, the pods begin a dark burgundy red and fade to green when they become too tough. It’s a nice visual indicator of the prime time to harvest.
Yeah it's gorgeous!
Thanks. That’s helpful info!
Hey Kevin! Im a middle schooler and I just started watching your videos about a month or so ago, and I’ve gotten really interested in gardening, you really inspired me! So, I bought some cheap little containers and some seeds and started growing! My seeds have come far, the only problem is I dont have the funds to get a raised bed or even more, or bigger containers 😕. But, I just wanted to thank you for all this great content and inspiring me.
Thinking about starting a CZcams channel for my progress.
Have you considered recycling plastic bottles like water or milk jugs? Dog food bags also work as garden bags. If you don't have pets, introduce yourself to someone who has a large dog and ask about getting their empty bags. Have fun!
Do it!
Appreciate Bethany's inclusion.
As a Midwestern patio Gardner the advice comes in clutch
Thank you so much!!
I'm nearly 70 y.o. and growing my first vegetable garden. Two raised beds and 11 large terra cotta pots + 1 huge grow bag. No more room this season for any other crops. Can't grow any of these crops so I guess I must be insane...
So cool you're starting your first garden at 70!
Good luck hope you have success was a long time Gardener who recently started growing veggies and fruits with moderate success
So happy to see Shannie on your channel. She is so knowledgeable and real about gardening advice. Hope to see her more.
Nice to see a Chicago container gardener in the epic gardening family.
We agree!
Thank you so much!! I’m still amazed to see myself in one of their videos!
Oh wow! It's so nice to see Shannie on here.
This video is much more interesting than most ‘what to plant’ videos; especially for an extended gardener.
I love watching your videos and Jaques! I remember as a kid watching and doing everything gardening with my family all the time it's just so refreshing to see this now and how inclusive you are with other people sharing in different zones. Thanks for all of the sunshine ☀️ 🌹
Regarding the marigolds, for what it's worth I just watched a video the other day from a Canadian gardener/soil scientist who said the effect is only good where...I forget the technical term, but basically unless you have that marigold crowding in against the tomatoes, it's not providing much of an effect. She said that growing the marigolds as ground cover, then coming in later and planting those tomatoes where the marigolds used to be, is the best way to do it (because of course you're planting into soil that had those chemicals all throughout it).
I'm probably totally butchering what she said, and of course if you're actually having success planting marigolds the way you already do, then keep going with it! I just figured I'd bring this up just in case!
Thank you for adding info fir those of us in Florida. We are so often ignored but almost all gardening sites. Zone 10 in Florida is so different than 10 in another part of the country.
Our pleasure!
But no link to the jicama seeds from the Florida segment. We are always forgotten, and not smart enough to use Google.
LOVE these monthly planting guides. So incredibly helpful for a newbie gardener like me!
It’s so funny to see how much and how quickly this channel has grown. I’m an early subscriber & saw Epic’s early videos about his tiny front yard raised beds. So glad to see it’s grown so much.
You 10A’ers make me jealous with your early, long seasons haha
Get the right plants and then 7b/8a can have almost 8 months worth of a growing season too :)
@@abyssal_phoenix well in Berlin Germany you can't grow sooo much fruits because it's too cold in winter for them to survive and my rooms are full of such plants but they mostly don't flower and fruit under these conditions sadly
@@jpro6413 yeah you struggle with being more landinward indeed. What's the growing zone over there actually?
Over here, near the northern dutch border the temps are mild enough to grow stuff like winter spinach, leeks, radish, cauliflower etc outside from February the last few years, as long as you start them inside in January. And most plants produce until late September or even until somewhere in October! That's mostly thanks to trying out different varieties that work better in this environment:)
@@abyssal_phoenix Berlin is 6 ig and I can grow all the stuff you mentioned out from march and some from February ig
Hahaha exactly 6b here
Longtime subscriber and just wanted to say thank you so much for all your advice! I also live in San Diego and struggled for years to have a viable garden - I was always trying to approach my garden in the same way I did when I lived in the Northwest - until I started watching your videos a few years ago and everything makes more sense!
My garden is not always perfect, but it is definitely more abundant than it was in the past. Thank you!
Excellent and timely as well. The true Easter Egg was seeing Shannie in the mix as she has helped me laugh and grow for many years. What a team! ZOODLES!
She's awesome!
😊 you just made my day ✌️❤️🫛🥕
AH! I love that Meg is included in this video, she is so enjoyable to watch!
Thank you!!
Love this series!!! Please do this every month! Very informative and I love that you guys own BI now and show the seeds that you sell.
Thanks! One note: Botanical Interests has been problematic as far as germination for me and my customers. I’m a CT Master Gardener and work at a farm store. Hoping this year is different. Love your seeds!
Uh oh! We hold our germ rates in high regard. If you're having issues, please hit up our customer service and we'll take care of you ASAP.
I didn’t have any trouble with seeds I bought this season.
Love your work and the diversity of knowledge! Y’all are each others companion plants and we are your little pollinators 😇🐝🪲💕
I absolutely love videos like this! I really loved the various segments from other gardeners, it's really a joy to see so many gardeners & their takes on what they like to grow on a monthly basis!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for all the ideas ...the animated part of your video was just as much fun as listening to what to grow
I grew a lot of cantaloupes on cattle panels last year in Santa Rosa, CA.
I love the variety of gardeners you’re featuring. I’ve lived in Florida and it’s like a different planet for gardening. And please don’t stop doing the things you need to to be successful. This is a business with hundreds of employees. You’re the number one resource for many of us. Haters gonna hate. The rest of us are here for you.
Always enjoy these monthly what to pick videos. Thank you everyone.
You guys are all amazing with so much information. I’m growing zinnias, cosmos , calendula, beans, squash and various tomatoes along with peppers in zone 8A.
I wish you could see the photos of my garden from last year. Your channel helped me a ton. It was such a wet summer in Maine and so many folks struggled but thanks to you and other channels on youtube my garden thrived. I'm zone 4b so we haven't done too much yet but my snap peas are growing so well and I have hard neck garlic out there doing great. Can't wait until it really warms up in June!!!
i cook and serve butterfly pea tea at my work as a barista. we use it in our lemonades a lot. that's why it turns purple ! thank you for the information 🩷
I love the plant in …. series!! Super helpful and inspirational 🌸🍀
I planted a loofah for my Single Seed Challenge this year. It's growing well. I'm excited about getting it. I didn't know it was actually edible when young. Great video with lots of good ideas.
Great tips, thanks. This comment is for Jacque, I grew butternut squash this year for the first time up a trellis. I planted 4 plants and harvested about 18 squashes.
Living Meg-so knowledgeable and a great presenter plus we are in NC so her content is always relevant to those of us growing in North Carolina😘‼️ Southeastern NC appreciates your content, God bless all you put your hands to do😘.
In the beginning, when he said there was a veg that he wouldn't eat as a kid and threw a tantrum, but now loves it... I knew it was either going to be squash Or brussels sprouts😅
LOL predictable
@@epicgardening 😆😆😆
First time I've got up to 'move-it' in a long time! Feels so good!! Thank you!! ❤
I’ve always loved winter squash (buttercup). My great-grandparents introduced me to them young when I helped them in the garden and I grow them in that very same garden and it evokes great memories. I planted like 5 seeds 2 years ago and I ended up with 96 good sized winter squashes.
This amazing assemble makes me so 🥹happy...happy gardening folks!
Can I say, again, that I love this series including all of you wonderful gardeners in different locations and zones?! It's so helpful and a good learning opportunity. It makes me realize I can't do ALL THE THINGS because of zones but I can do ENOUGH OF THE THINGS. :)
Love this video! Seeing different people discussing their favorites made it all very interesting!
Thanks guys, I'm for the most part very new to gardening ( tried in the past with no success) this year I'm trying a bunch of different fruits and veggies with which some of them you actually went over. Gave me some great tips
I've always liked planting and growing things it's always seem like straight up magic, but I gave up after having my plants wouldn't grow. Seeing your videos has re-inspired me I now have my own compost and im actually growing some watermelons. Thx for the spark.
Let's grow!
Please add a colder zone garden representative if able! I’m zone 4b and would love to hear more from other gardeners in zones more similar to mine.
Broken Ground Permaculture. She’s in Zone 4.
This video was super frickin helpful for this month thank you so much!! I had no idea what I was gonna do this month- thank you thank you THANK YOU!
Last year I left my zinnia stalks till spring. The birds enjoyed both the cover and the seed heads all winter. So much fun.
Greetings from Poland! I just discovered your channel, thank you for all tips 🥰🌸🌿
I love the packaging of your seeds. I got some recently and was pleased to learn they’re enclosed in a separate sealed packet for added protection.
Yes, many are double-sealed!
Our daughter was in foundation class called "zinnias" so we planted them for her teachers. They are now one of my top 5 fave flowers!
Patty pan sauteed...with zucchini, yellow straighneck, carrot, potato, garlic, butter, and fresh rosemary. Yum!!
Thanks for the edamame rec! I'd never have thought to grow that myself but it's one of the only veggies my toddler will eat. She loves it. I will plan to plant some soon.
Good to see a lot of Asian varieties in here. After coming to Europe I found out many of the Asian vegetables are similar but better like yard long beans much longer then French beans
I live in Australia so I'm going into winter, and currently have 0 use for this video haha - but i just love seeing your gardens and learning about gardening from you! Your book and videos have taught me so many good tips! Thank you from this small balcony gardener ❤️
In winter I have a herb garden inside. Basil, thyme, onions, chives n such It's in a round wash tub full of dirt. This container gets set outside in the summer and brought back in, in the fall. Good luck
Where in Australia, if there’s no frost then you can basically grow anything
I’m in Western Australia & viewing here (for the 1st time) too…tho it’s May here now & Winter next month😂 l am still going to plant sweet potatoes 🍠 in pots cos l reckon grown on the patio undercover or moved into sunshine when we have it, l can still harvest the abundant leaves that are delicious & plentiful…& hopefully start producing tubers in our Spring-Summer. Yum yum
It was great to see Bethany! Love seeing the garden diversity.
Great video! Growing plants from seed is so rewarding! I love the suggestions in this video! I need to start the butterfly pea flowers in my garden. Tagetes patula is amazing too! I love how you have the melons layered under those Zinnia's! Incredible:-)!
I'm growing butterfly pea for the first time this year, perfect timing with the useful tips!
I've lived in Florida for 3 years now. I just found out about Malabar Spinach, it's a great patio plant loves shade and is a vine plant. It's green or red stem variety. You can propagate it from a cutting, I'm growing mine from seeds, so Im excited they grow like a weed. I also grow sweet potatoes (just greens), I get only one hour of sunlight. And I still manage to have some good green vegetables growing all summer here.
I'm also growing Watercress, scallions, nasturtiums and katuk. I'm trying to grow okra but just not even sun. I'm in zone 10a. ❤ I've seen the butterfly pea plant growing here. I don't think I have any more space to grow it on my patio plus the lack of sun... But I will try. I believe anything is possible. 😊
First year gardener here! Already got some delicious Ozark beauty strawberries harvested, planted a peach sorbet and pink icing blueberry in pots (we are trying the fescue grass companion planting trick,) red potatoes, onions, carrots, green onions, parsnips, beats, herbs, sun gold tomatoes and got some honey Mellon seeds planted a few days ago.
Wow. Sooo much information in one video. Thanks so much!
alyssum at the bottom of my roses helps I also grew it under my strawberries as a ground cover and mulch- works like a charm!
Nice to see that there's some Florida representation here like I mentioned wanting to see months ago! Our summers are definitely not the time to grow classics like tomatoes, most squash, cucumbers, and most pole beans, so we have to rely on alternatives like Everglades tomato, Seminole pumpkins or loofah, Armenian cucumbers, and pinkeye purplehull peas.
I was going to do most of these so this is so much useful information thank you Eric !!!!
Great video! Really enjoyed this; all the contributors are excellent. But I especially appreciated seeing Shannie from Florida as I also live in central Florida 10a.
Love your content! You and Jacque inspired me to add a small greenhouse to my garden. I was wondering if you could do a video on how you use your greenhouse throughout the seasons. I’m especially interested in how you use it (if you use it) during the hotter summer months in San Diego. I envision my green house being empty from July to November. 😢
Great selection and very informative, thank you!
I agree with Jaques. That is one of the best squash.
Long beans are delicious for a stir-fry with garlic and chillies 🤤
Loving all of these videos! Thanks for all the tips guys! 💚✨
Very cool to see a balcony/container gardener in the mix!
I really love that one of your experts is based in North Carolina! I’m looking forward to trying out some of her recommendations 😊
Thank you!! This was wonderful!
Thanks for sharing what to grow in Florida in May. I'm in zone 9b sw Florida
Patty pan is my fav. Put a little water in bottom of casserole. Wash & quarter the patty pan. Sprinkle generously with shredded cheddar cheese, garlic salt, & pepper. Bake at 320 for about 40 min. Toast some wheat bread. Cut into 6ths. Butter toasr. Place pieces on top of squash. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese. Bake until cheese melts. My grandmother used to make this every Summer. She came from New England
Yard long beans were the first harvest I ever had from anything in the garden! They basically do everything on their own, just keep them watered and they're happy. Mine produced these gorgeous lavender-shade flowers that gave way to the beans. The flowers have a very short window of being open, so if you want to see them in full beauty, you really have to keep an eye on them. They'll open up and about 12 hours later fall off as the bean pushes through the center of the flower. We never forget our first harvest, do we? ❤
Harvesting my squash this may already. Love it.
Thanks for covering different areas as I'm in zone 10a Florida.
Lucky bastard! Here I'm stuck in zone 3b 🤣
@epicgardening I LOVE that you have different gardners from different parts of the country … did I mention I love this type of video ? Great concept and can’t wait for the next one! Thank you. Happy gardening ! From central New York! Zone 5b.
So happy and glad to hear this!
Love growing okra….really enjoyed this video of all the different gardeners. I’m in Georgia…..getting hot here fast.
Love the idea of the pea tea! But I bet those flowers would be amazing as an eco-ptint on fabric! That dark blue is just beautiful!!
Unfortunately I'm in Britain so not warm enough for them here.
Love the videos! I am also in San Diego and have many fruit trees and have no real idea how to prune them until watching you guys. If you ever want to film on location would love to have you guys at my house looking over my trees!
Yay! Shannie! I haven't seen you on since your Baker Creek videos.
shanie i feel you! ITS HOT HERE!!!!!! im glad someone from 10a joined!
Damn, this was an excellent video! Thanks to the whole Epic Team 👌
Patty pan squash pancake with a ck gravy yumm I started my squash in my aero garden a month ago and left them in too long and had root damage removing them😔then the spring sun cooked them 😮time to restart my zucchini & yellow. Thankfully I was smarter on the spaghetti squash and patty pans and thankfully they re doing much better 😊
That sounds sooooo good!
I love your videos, especially the ones with you and jacques. You inspired me to start gardening and now it is really a passion of mine. I'm only sad because i live in Europe so i can't buy the stuff from your store ❤
Wonderful!
Hi there, awesome channel! Thanks for all your help.
I was wondering how you feel about sub-irrigation planters for raised garden beds.
Thanks in advance
Kevin, hope you are doing very well!
I'm starting a vegetable garden at home for healthy eating (sweet potatoes, carrots, greens, etc.). I'd really like to learn more in an organized way (meaning, without picking through several videos from different CZcams channels). Do you have any recommendations for a book that covers the main planting techniques for food (for each plant - ideal soil, how to germinate, how to grow, how to fertilize, sunlight hours needed, how much water it needs, germination and harvest times, etc.)? If you know of any courses like this, that would be even better.
Thanks a lot!
Always grow zuchinni and pattypan squashes in summer. Always direct sow all squash! Also i bought my first kabocha two years ago at a grocery store and saved seed. Grew them the next year, been growing a great harvest ever since. Yum!
Agree, way easier to direct sow
