Where is the mini Cooper
hi Memphis I am from South Africa. love your golf. I also have a golf Mk1 which i converted from a 1300 to a 2l 8v . But now my external fuel pump makes a loud humming and knocking noises when I drive . Any advice on how to fix it?
It is good to see how you praise your old school and its teachers. There is something nostalgic about it. At my age, entering the holy grounds of the place where I spent a significant part of my youth makes me rather emotional. In 20 or more years you will probable feel the same way.
The Golf is nearing completion, congrats on how far she's come Memphis! Cannot wait to see how the E28 turns out as well!
Friend: "Why are looking through your carbs like a binocular?"
Memphis - "Looking for more power!" :)
Love how the car chirped the tires in 2nd gear! As for a camshaft change - don't go too crazy. A hotter cam moves the power range further up the rev range. You'll make more power, but it won't be there off-idle (1500-2500 rpm) where you do 95% of your driving. It will be sluggish up to the point when it "gets on the cam". Somewhere around a 270 degree cam with .430" to .450" valve lift will be ideal. Keep up the great content! Cheers from Canada!
Impressive stuff all around. Great detail work on the carbs and timing. I’m knocked over by the schools facility. I’ll bet it’s a blast to drive as well. Better than my TDI i’ll bet. A really great story about a really great car. Congratulations for the results of all your work. I hope the school was as impressed as I am. I’ve been driving and messing with cars for about 61 years…many VW’s. 👍🏽
Memphis and M539, best car channels on youtube today! Greetz from Mechelen Memphis! :D
Sweet papaya
Im so glad the golf is driving super clean now. Looks like an absolute blast to drive!
This engine needs a 288* cam, upgraded springs, and a HEALTHY compression bump (at least up to 10.5:1). This should net you at least 12-17kW to the wheels.
A cam would also increase the intake noise as well and make it sound extra throaty!!
The problem is non of those things are allowed in Belgium
Why you gotta tell the authorities..... Just shhhhh
@@daalhoffarm You arent allowed aftermarket camshaft upgrades? What about if you swapped in a cam from a different VW head? Brazil used a 268* cam in one of their cars. Its the same cam profile that Techtonic Tuning uses for their 268* cam option.
@@daalhoffarm but he can swap a whole different engine in his car and put carbs on it which makes it way less fuel efficient but he can’t put a cam in it?
Thank you for linking to your old school. Have shown their website to my son, who is now very interested. We’re in northern France, only a few hours away, and this could be the perfect fit for a car mad teenager.
Very nicely explained! Nice to see the Golf pulling so nicely!!
i love what you are doing there. getting an old car and building it near perfection. I LOVE IT!
In South Africa the Golf 1 has a huge following, as it was locally manufactured until December 2008. Spares are plentiful and cheaply available. Your Golf is a pristine example and greatly to be admired. Keep up the good work. It is great to see a young guy with such a passion for cars.
I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the golf progress and see it come so far. Congrats!
Well done. A great result. Thomas More is worth its weight in gold!
Wonderful job! This was a fantastic group of videos to watch. Thank you for this.
Very nice, Memphis, thank you for the new episodes!
Looking like a champ on the rolling road ✌
This is an excellent video Memphis. The Induction Roar on that engine sounds nice and 'Growly'. 1st class content! 👏
Congratulations! Your Golf is more alive then it was ever before 🥳
She sounds awesome! In my opinion, one of your greatest accomplishments is being humble. You could have edited out the fails, but you admitted faults. That’s rare on these types of videos. I appreciate your honesty.
Great build man!!
Love to listen to the special sound only carburetors - cars make 🤩 great vid and also nice performance mate 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Project complete... Big ups to you.. Very well done!!
Awesome video, as usual! Thanks for your amazing content, I really enjoy watching your videos! Keep them coming!
Great video. Beautiful car. What a hoot watching it blast down the road. Respect for the shout out to your old school. Nice of them to let you use the facility.
So good.
I'm happy that you got things sorted out
👍🏼👍🏼
What a great video... nice to see the Mk1 running so sweet 👍
Hi Memphis the golf looks and sounds really cool
Love this channel and can’t wait to see your next video
There is that Jetta again! A 5 Zyl. Engine Swap would be awesome.
Nice work btw
Greetings from Chiang Mai. Very enjoyable segment! Especially appreciated you including mention of Thomas More. Wishing you continued success.
Great job on the Golf! I think it sounds amazing too.
Sounds awesome, well done 👍
I've seen numerous motorcycle carbs, but never car's ones, super interesting ! And all the dyno part was really educational, with all the tuning and so 😁 And boy she looks fast 🤩
Looking good and running great. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.👌🏾😎👍🏽
Awesome video! Thanks for all your hard work👍👍
Awesome video, sounds amazing!
Very nice Video!!! Love your school!!! And your Golf is fantastic!!! This is a hell of a drive!!! Well done!!!!! Bravo 👍👍👍👍
Echt een hele leuke Golf... blij voor je dat ie eindelijk goed loopt... Succes met je CZcams Kanaal!!
Hello Haico Vos
Welcome back Memphis, couldn't wait for this video📸. Love your channel bro, all the way from south Africa ✌️
Je maakt me zo blij! Heb zelf een Pirelli uit '83. Dankjewel!
Sweet sound! Great work!
Best series on yt hands down 🤤
Finally! Couldn't wait for this video
Sounds fantastic, well done
Excellent. Good job. What a great school too. I wish I could have been to somewhere like that back in the seventies when I was an apprentice in the UK. Mind you, I did get my first job at the local Mercedes/Ferrari/Porsche dealer so I'm not complaining too much.
Amazing sound made this "little" golf !
The car sounds great. Love the school. Stay well
Very nice sound! Good job!
Great stuff Memphis. It makes me remember my Golf 1 with p p in my eyes...a Big like from me..👍
The Golf looks and sounds awesome and now it goes like stink too. Really great result after all your hard work Memphis (or should I call you little Simba?)! You’re a true engine whisperer. So stoked it’s exceeded your expectations 👏👏👏
That's one awesome looking school. Lucky you!
this and your old engine are very tunned here in Brazil, especially with turbos. I have a 1.8 N/A prep installed in my vw voyage, shirick cam, 13,5:1 compression, running on etanol, using audi a3 turbo connecting rods. i use a fueltech ecu and 4x1 exhaust manifold. I got 110whp out of it using a conservative timing. love your channel dude. subscribed.
The high rpm's are so wonderfully throaty on that engine. I'd add a small fartcan close to the exhaust tip just to get it rumbling a tiny bit more.
Epic work
Car is running healthy
Heel mooi gedaan man! Serieus net resultaat en dat geluid 🥰👍🏻
Engine sound was perfect. What music!
So thrilled by seeing this episode, really enjoyed it, but left me wondering: Isn't it time for a another trip to that Nordschleife famous circuit with the little rabbit? XD
Anyway, really good job man !
Great sound!
Congratulations well done!
procrastinating installing bigger injectors and a turbo inlet pipe on my mk4 to watch this. loving the content, keep it up!
It just looks the part, especially in the first when it's sitting half way in the garage. And a nice introduction btw of your school.
oh man I've been waiting for this.
Nice video the car pures like a kitten ;) ,im working as a bike cycle mechanic here in Denmark and I startet the eutication in January 2000 and I was finish in October 2003 and I have been in that ever since, I allso repair my own mopeds/scooters, last summer I swaped the broken air cooled engien on my Gilera Runner Sp 50 from 2006 to a licquid cooled engien and allready I had a new wirering harness installed some years ago, so it was ready to get licquid cooled, but the whole cooling system had to be installed that was a big job to do, but it runs like a dream now, I bought a Piaggio Nrg DD 50cc that I took the engien from, I only use that Gilera Runner Sp 50 in the spring and summer and autum then it stayes in my garage in the winther, it coud allso be fun to see how much power it makes on a dyno run, the only issue I got is if I drive on coppel stones or wery uneaven surface the engien stutters sets out but I have installed a real dellorto 17,5mm carburator and I have ajustet it and put in the biggest main jet that it can take and the colour on the spark plug is brown, ohh the engien is two stroke by the way, but it's so nice to do the work and knowing what parts is used and knowing what is done and save monny at the same time :) ,I like to take long trips on my scooter I got 3 and im doing all the mechanic stuff in my garage, in Denmark where I was to school for bike cycle mechanic there is allso car mechanics and motor cycle mechanics and other lines of work much similar to that in Belgum :)
Love it my friend
Awesome and fantastic job on the car it runs and sounds beautiful. That bit of wheel spin in second gear my god 😳❤️ very much looking forward to the awesome BMW being worked on gonna be great 😁
Muy chingon quedo tu golf bro felicidades ✌️😎
With cold air going into your carbs you will gain about 15HP, move them up towards the hood away from the radiator air stream
She sounds feisty now - great job! Can't wait to get mine to sound like that. Mk1s are the best, endlessly customisable and they just ooze cool. Maybe it's time for another trip to Nürburg?
Great work , just gotta love golf gti 🚗👍😊 thx
Side draft Webers etc can be very expensive to set expensive, most people would surprised that late model SU,s HIF ( high air flow, they are more square at the top, earlier ones were more rounded ) can FLOW as much air and fuel as Webers for LESS money!!
Great job, but ... Your AFRs are too rich. For NA you should aim at 12.2-12.8. I know that it is hard to tune carbs, but you can sacrifice low rpm and have there AFR 14-15, and focus on rpms after 3000. At this moment you have 10,7-11 AFR - this is too rich. Maybe next project will be with fuel injection and stand alone ECU ? ;-)
you are on point.
Great intake sound 💪🏻
Awesome videos! Would love that volvo!!
That thing's a damn rocket ship now!!
Sounds beautifully. It reminds me to Busso V6 sound.
love to see new content from you
Quedó bien chingon tu golf .. bien 👍
Love the content brother
What a machine🔥
Top man such a great guy😊
genial memphis!
Congrats!
That engine sound is awesome! Congrats on the car! (imo, I think it looks better without the GTI lip)
Proficiat! Gewoon uitstekend
"After bruising my left hand ... the next step is to bruise my right hand" :D :D I really thought you would say that! :D
Nice facility at Thomas More
@Memphis, you've done a great job, the car is a dream now! I hope You are now going to make a review of how the car runs, stops and accelerates, 0 to 100km/h etc.
Good figures Memphis, I can appreciate your excitement in getting it on the rolling road. My Mk1 is going to the dyno for setup next tuesday, I'll be happy with similar figures to you. Overbored 1900cc DX GTI on GSXR 600 SRAD carbs with electronic timing control (Nodiz) - fingers crossed
Just back from my rolling road tune - end result 122bhp/187Nm. Happy enough with that on my cabriolet!
Dude that school looks cool as hell
It sounds so good 🤤
@2:51 I felt that! 😁
Very nice and interesting video again! It seems a long time ago that you drove your mk1 down our street?!? We live 500m from eachother! We can start a small meeting some day ;-) but only after I found a 1.8l EX engine for my mk1 cabriolet... I you know one, would be wonderful. Keep up the good work Memphis!
Makes me wish I'd kept my Mk1 1600cc GX which was a right hand conversion of a Belgium import 😁
It was pretty quick for its time. More BMW? Can't wait!
Hey man, those hose clamps look really bad. I suggest that you replace them with better ones. Especially on the coolant hoses. After some heat cycles, the cheap ones lose the clamping force and can cause a leak. Plus, once you tighten them, then loosen and you go back to tighten them, it will never clamp as hard and you can also "strip" the clamping band.
Edit: I recommend Oetiker clamps.
Starting to like this car more and more. Nice.
Tuning is my life
Thanks!
sound soooo good
