    For anyone doing the same, I would recommend a header across the top and studs placed directly under those two shortest vertical studs. You are carrying the weight of the roof rafters above. Otherwise looks good!

      No structure over the window or door either . 😖

    • @alis05
      @alis05 Před 2 lety

      Yes very structurally unsound. It's not recommend. It's a must for both the header and the sill.

    • @MikesLeTour83
      @MikesLeTour83 Před 2 lety

      No trimmer studs either.
      I’m assuming since you are heating & cooling you will add insulation as well?

    • @StewartMotoring
      @StewartMotoring  Před 2 lety +3

      I will do headers going forward on any wall for best practice. But also rest easy because that wall is non load bearing.
      And yes walls are insulated now.

    • @clsanchez77
      @clsanchez77 Před rokem

      Nice work. The headers are not needed in non-load bearing walls. A stud on its side as you did is adequate.
      Where I am on the gulf coast, you have ensure continuous uplift load path with strapping, where applicable….but I don’t automatically assume everyone or every wall needs it.

    The partible models that set on floor (1 hose) work way better for heating. Put out hot not warm air. Keeping compressor out of the cold and just blowing the cold air out is even more efficient than an actual heat pump. Plus they use standard 115 volt outlet. Most of the air they blow out is recirculated so they don't produce negative vacuum like most people claim. They work great for A/C too!

  • @dogface6040
    @dogface6040 Před 3 lety +2

    FWIW on the air outlet vane direction: comfort comes from a good mixing of the air in the space, so you don't want to point the air stream down. It's more comfortable to let it flow at, say, 8' high (above floor) because this will induce the rest of the room air to move in circulation "spun" by the AC air. This mixes the air for even temperature in the room.

  • @derekwalsh4583
    @derekwalsh4583 Před rokem

    This little A/C kicks out some serious air. Replaced a larger unit that belongs to my landlord bc it has some sort of issue. Keeps my small little house plenty cool for my dog in this hot summer weather.

    • @StewartMotoring
      @StewartMotoring  Před rokem

      What do you keep it set at and how often does it run? I find it sometimes has trouble keeping my garage cool. But I have to weigh that against my air compressor putting off a lot of heat

  • @acescottking
    @acescottking Před 4 lety +2

    You know you're a gearhead when you have A/C in the garage but not in the house. I don't have any open wall space in my garage, and the window glass slides sideways, so I bought a unit similar to yours and placed it on a platform outside one of the windows and made some ducting to feed the air thru. It looks a little odd but works great.

    Awesome system, I am going to install one at my house… but a header is highly recommended, 4”x6 or 8” should do the trick. Also, instead of trying to cut it out like you did. Drill a hole from the inside out in all 4 corners, draw a line, chalk line, etc. then cut it from the outside. Way faster and way cleaner. Otherwise, great work!

      Probably, I did it more to keep it out of the way of the tool boxes and storage cabinets etc. But you brought up an unintended positive 😀. It’s working good so far with a few weeks avg temp in the high 80s. The insulation, drywall, and shade keeps the garage so much cooler as it is!

    There's no header because that's a gable end wall and not carrying a load. I will put headers in all my walls but that's my personal preference. That wall is no different than having no support in the middle of the garage rafters. The trusses are carrying the load.
