- This is my 2nd attempt at fixing my LG 47ln5400 TV. The first repair lasted about a week and might have lasted longer if I would have turned the back light setting down. The end result is removing the bad leds and just soldering the + and - connections together to complete the circuit on the led strip since the leds are in a series. Then I just turned down the back light brightness to a lower setting to help prevent more leds from burning out. If a problems occurs Ill update as needed.
TV still working and on the wall as of 8/4/2017 :)

Hi i hav the same problem with my led lg tv, may i know what model and the inches of your lg tv?
Hi Joe, Your video was very helpful. I could fix my LG LED TV after watching this. Thanks a lot.
I am glad to see it has helped, mine is still up on the wall after making this video.
Thank you so much for uploading this video, you basically repaired my LG smart tv by uploading this, mine went black 6 days ago. You are a true GOD! ;)
Thanks, Im glad it helped
Are these LED same what we get in market.
but when i connect panel connector to led driver only two strips get low light snd remaining two almost zero light what i should do
Great stuff! You just saved me alot of money.
nice breakdown and back together vid... I always end up with a screw or two after assembling something like that, Lol. Thanks for showing :)
+TheBillytheJack2010 Thanks, Ya I can find a few left over screws from time to time. I figure Id put the video up to show some things I tried and what worked and what didnt work so maybe someone can try to fix there own.
Hi there, yes it is a good idea to turn your backlights down because this is the bias voltage to those LEDS. The hotter they run the less lifetime they have
i change led as per you say and tv is working very well for 1 or 2 day but after this ..its burnt again and again and replace it 3 times and again burnt so ..i am tired now ..what to do ??
That was a great video man!!!
Thanks for it!
+Daniel Vazquez You Bet😃🖒
In my LG TV 45" both audio and video goes interrupted time and again. kindly suggest me how to set right. thank you.
my model is LG LED LN5110 32 inch tv and the problem is same can you tell me what is the estimated cost
thank you for your important videos .
the resistance series or parlles with anew led؟
+Memo Memo Im not sure because I just soldered the + and - together to complete the circuit
Good morning friend, I have a television that has the same fault, uncover it and I could see that I had a led burned in the bottom line, my question and my problems is the following, when replacing the burned led all turn on individually, I can do so that all the led on the bottom line turn all on
Hi, i have a LG 50LA620V-ZA, it seems similar to yours, the problem that i have is that it only shows for half second the logo LG , and after that it turns black, i open the back case and it seems that the LEDs are lighting for half second and after that it switches off, how to make sure that the problem are the LEDs? Many thanks, or maybe the PSU, or PCB?
Thanks for the video. A few led diodes burnt in my LED tv. I don't have old strip to get diodes. Please let me know how to find correct type when ordering online. Forward Current, Watt, LM etc. Thank you
+Lindara Ranatunga I actually dont remember as I did this a year ago. Joe
Contact 8530836399
that is some really hard work, good job
+Xiollele Roccxibú Thanks!🖒
thanx man you practecly showed me how to fix lcd tvs without wasting money on new parts
I am glad it helped
Hi what will happen if i remove all my lcd tubes and place leds which is powered from outside source ? Please reply
That may work! Havent tried but could work in a pinch!
Hello I have 55 inches G Gard smart tv screen suddenly stopped working completely but befor that while its on it turns off by itself and stays off i had to unplug it from the power then put it back on to get it working.
What would be the problem ?
Possible power supply board or capacitors bad.
hmmm... watching this gave me the idea how much shld i pay for repair. thanks for the video.
Por favor díganos de cuánto es la resistencia que le colocó a cada LED
hi. i have a 55 inch lg tv which is also having the same issue. my question is if u simply patch the + / - as u did in yours, wont that area have a visible sign of lower illumination? or did your diffuser help even it all out. especially given that there were more than one bad led points.
Yes you are correct, it can have a darker spot if you have a few leds out in the same area like mine. You can only see when that part of the screen goes really bright white. Its not really noticeable during regular viewing. The diffuser does a pretty good job. So if you have 1 led you probly wouldnt notice much.
Incredible video thank you so much
thank you
What if there is sound and I ran the flashlight test and I do see words but i opened up the tv and all the led light strips don't work. is it really all of them or is it a bad connection. I tried to test them all but they won't light up. please help im lost now
Kimberly aguilar Test them in the middle section like I did. They all cant be bad
Great video! Thank you.
Your Welcome!!!
I need help my dvd loptop,
it's showing light only
but its Born by hi voltage,
which I.C can I changes.
That is probly something on the inverter board!
This is very good at what he dose
oh man, laying all those bare pcbs on carpet. You self repair guys are too brave.
🤣🖒
Sir, lg led 32 inch ki back light ka kya price hai.
You should have show how it works after assembled everything, l mean you should have test it and show to viewers.
Mine too, almost same model (42ln) no image but there's sound. So I tried with another T-Con board. With the new tcon the backlight works fine but no image on the lcd. Dont know what to do
Check all voltages from power supply first. If there are blinking LED codes decipher them.
absolutely class video. 😎
Thanks!!!
you cant jsut connect + and - together, you need at last put resistor in place of led, do you know what led are used ? 5050smd ?
Thats what I did and it is still working great. Yes you could put a resistor in place of the led. As for the actual leds, they do look like a 5050smd
Very good
Thanks for tutorial.
Sunkingvstar Sun You bet, glad it helped!
I have 43 inch (106cm) LG TV. What is the average price of the led panel for my TV?
The actual screens are expensive, I would just replace the tv unless you find another of the same tv that had a bad board and swap parts.
If so many of the lights were working, why was the screen completely dark? Are they in a series like old Christmas lights or something?
Yes they are in series!
I'm trying this during lockdown. Found a 55 inch last week before all hell broke loose so this will give me something to do. There are 11 led's per strip in my lg tv . Is there a way I can test a and b strips seperately with a 12 volt power supply? thanks
Yeah you can test the strips. There are test points on each strip, just hit them with your 12v power supply.
no dura mucho tiempo,, se funden de nuevo eres muy ingenioso te recomiendo ya que hiciste lo mas dificil cambiar los modulos leds gracias
Thanks for that, where can I buy them? I am in New Zealand
Over there Im not sure. Here we can get the strips from shopjimmy.com or if you wanted to replace just the bad leds Id check ebay
How much does the whole kit costs?
Hi there my JVC LED TV has no picture, there is sound. when I put off all the lights in the house, with total darkness I can see the menu on screen. faded but I am able to read. what could it be? Lights? or boards?
Most likely just some or one LED has gone bad like mine in the video
What is the name that white backing under the screen
Maybe diffuser panel but not 100% sure.
what is the led voltage ?
thank you for video
here in the phils where's the service center for lg ln54 series with sounds but no picture is the problem
Maybe someone will comment that knows because I sure dont
Hello,
Man why dont you show the final result at the end (the picture)? I bet you got an uneven backlight on the lines that you removed the LEDs. Do you see white point of bright at the place you removed the LEDs?
+Julien I could do a follow up video if that would interest people. Normal watching you dont see a difference however if the screen is really bright white you do see a darker area where the few leds are removed.
No it's ok, i just wanted to see the picture. Because i did the same repair on my client set and i got some white points (more visible on white or clear pictures) on the bands i've removed one led. I'm not sure what is the reason and i wondered if you have the same. But you said no.
+Julien Oh ok, yeah mine are more of a darker spot one the bright white screen. Did you turn the backlight down. I would say that since the leds are removed, it allows more voltage to the leds that are left. I would lower thw backlight setting. There is a comment on here were a person recommended putting a regular diode in place of the bad led to simulate load like an led.
Hi Sir i am in india
your video is very useful please keep it up.
And one request,
please upload the how to replace LED TV Universal mother board
We're waiting for your your new videos
Thanks a lot
Great video ...you know I don't have a TV like that, but It really was amazing to see how you fix yours.
Mario Morales Thanks!!! I really love to take things apart to see whats inside then fix what I can. :)
Good work,
thank you
bravo maestro
WooW Good You Rock Man ;)
Thanks!!!
good job.
I have a vizio. manufactured in 2015 so it seems different than the lg you fixed . I took it apart clearly not knowing what the hell I'm doing . don't have a flashlight to do the test but when commercials come on the screen will get a bit brighter and it has audio. Can you help me out on how to fix it please!!!
You would need to test the leds if you can.
hello sir ,
Am connecting from india ! my panasonic led tv 40" its first on a few 5minutes than the tv is off am going the service center and he told me change the display full .wats a problem sir ??????can u help me??????
Im not sure what he means by the screen is full
great
Thanks!
Where is it possible to buy led strip for philips tv 46pfl5507k/12
Shopjimmy.com has a lot of stuff or ebay.
Found this:
www.shopjimmy.com/es/tvs/tv-led-light-strip/
but access is denied
Absolutely non-serious repair - installation of an LED with different current compared to the original 3528. :)
Hello average Joe What resistor did you end up making it work?
+fitz phillips In the video I said that I removed the resistor and just soldered the + and - together where I removed the bad leds. Its still up on the wall and working great :)
You mean that you shorted on the PCB( -+) or did you mean that you eliminated the resistor and soldered the LED directly without a resistor?
Yes I shorted the (-+) on the pcb and eliminated the resistor and bad led. I also turned the backlight down to help prevent more leds going out since they will receive more voltage. Another suggestion from a viewer said you could solder in just a regular diode to simulate the load of the led and that would keep the other leds from getting to much voltage which I think is a great idea.
Just use diodes. Using off the shelf leds can be difficult and the brightness will be off or the new leds wont be bright enough to see through the diffuser anyway. Sometimes you can jump out the terminals and get it to work like you did, sometimes that may not work and will put the feedback circuit into shutdown. I just use whatever zener diodes I have on hand, this is usually 1N4148s which are easy to get anywhere.
Awesome, great idea!!!
yeah, its a bit easier than trying to source those leds or the led strips from a tv, and you can't really notice one or two leds out anyway. Also, I turn the backlight power down to keep the leds from dying as much. They like to set it to 100% from the factory which kills them.
If you don't mind a small darker area where the led was, which is only visible when one color is displayed, you can just short the burned led. I did this on my TV, as the driver is current limited. I think mine was limiting at 250 mA, and I had 3 which failed. It lasted for almost a year, when others started to fail, but I got new LED strips now.
Yup, thats pretty much what I did and its still on the wall and going strong
@Dacke
I think that it's garbage quality control and cheap Led backlights that kills them.
I got a led strip but its not the same is there some way to adapt it
You could probly just solder the strip in or remove the leds from the good led strip and solder them into place of the bad
Hi joe, Great work thanks a lot for given me a good knowledge in tv backlights. I have a questions. How much it will take to repair this kind of issues. How much cost for the one led for 50inch tv.
The individual led's are super cheap but you could get a hole strip for maybe $20 on ebay or amazon!
@@AveRage_Joe Thanks a lot joe, really its useful for me☺️☺️👍
Hey Jimmy. My name Kenneth. I have a 42" vizio tv model NO E470i-Ao when I turn it on the Light at the bottom comes on and then turn off. No Light on the screen and no sound. what must I do?
I purchased a power supply board and a main board and I have the same problem.
Since you changed both boards Im not sure what the next step would be
An outstanding tutorial..... big thanks to u..
I'm facing same problem with my LG TV. LG technician came here said repair cost would be almost 80% of the TV price.
Can u pls let me know what is the type of LED light I need to buy ?
what is the tool u used for checking those LED, Is that multimeter?
It's all LG TV which has problem here. If anyone from LG read the comments here, they'll feel ashamed of their LED product.
Guyz, pls do not buy LG LED tv.....
Prajith K Thanks, I think there is a comment a few down that a guy has posted the leds.
Does LED TV have backlights or only the LCD ones?
😆
Sir plz tell me cost for this
Hi i folloe those step but now the led light are on but no image and sound. Dont know if i made a mistake when putting everything back together or i did damage the mother board. Please help
Thank
+Robert Muna If you did what I did then you couldnt of damaged the motherboard. I would say you forgot to insert a wire somewhere. I would take it back apart and check wiring.
Ok thank
Hello! My tv lost picture with sound remaining and i did the flashlight
test (no light in room except my flashlight) and i was able to see the
menu options on tv... So i have a question: Guy from the cable company
instaled tv reciever with both scart and hdmi (as much as i know hdmi
should be enough) so could his "wrong" setup have caused this dmg to my
(led smart)tv?!! Thanks.
Oy oy I dont think so, they just burn out at random.
Thank you for response.
Good luck.
sir send me vidio how to reset all wires and rebins in Samsung 46inch TV.
You should beable to just take the back off the tv and re-seat all that you see :)
I have sumsung 46 inch LED TV.
sound OK and display white.but picture is not coming.
Maybe just try and re-seat all the wires and ribbon cables
Pleas can you do a video for showing the pictures after applying this repairs? And solo can u show a video please on how to solder the +/- together? Because what am thinking is that when u do solder both together is bridging can you clarify me on this pls..
I just recently had another Led burn out and I took the tv apart to replace the burned out leds and when I was reassembling the Tv I cracked a small piece of glass on the corner of the screen 😱so now there is a big black line on one side of the screen😞 . But yes, you are correct, I just bridged the connections with solder where I had removed the Leds!
Had the same issue. Used the flashlight trick had a dim picture. Pulled everything off and checked the connection for LEDs. Now the bottom LED strip is blinking and other ones no lights. Please help?!?
+andrew blackwell All I did was remove the bad leds and solder those connections together. Beens working ever since🖒
AveRage Joe well it's in pieces. So step by step, LEDs were dim. Jiggled the connecter for the LEDs, they all went out and only the bottom row blinks. Just curious if you have any insight. Btw great video, love the music
+andrew blackwell Use a little 12v power supply like I did and seperate the strips from each other and put the power supply leads on the little test spots on the led stripes to find the bad ones.
AveRage Joe yes!! It worked. But not sure how to solder +- together? If put a spot of solder on the led area would that work?
+andrew blackwell Yup thats all I did🖒
Sir my 32" led tv automatic off after 20-25 minutes but sound is hear but picture not show like black screen. And then start again picture and sound see clear and after 20minut these problem repeate again.please solve the problem.
Probly a capacitor on one of the boards. Take the back off and take a look at them.
friend, good afternoon, as I do to know how much is the led that you are placing and how do I know how many watts is led that I will replace
The one that's nice is skyworth Devant And Tcl yeah 👍
Thanks!
hello Philips led tv the symptoms is upside down
Sir I have same problem who many fees to repair my tv
We have the same LG TV size and the bulbs have burned out twice already (got the TV in 2013 and the first burnout was in 2015, then again this year). We had a guy come to our house to fix it and it cost us about $200 repair each time. Don't know how long this next repair will last.
To help it last longer, lower the back light settings in the tv menu settings.
Thanks, will do that.
Mine 49" LED TV got exactly problem like this; but I pass this man. You have to completely tear the TV down to fix the backlight LED.
Its not to bad of a tear down
are u repear lg 55eg9a7v
Sir mera 43 inches intec led hai uska power on karte hai toh 2ya3 second kae liye display on hoti hai aur uskae baad display black ho jati hai kya led lights ka problem hai please help me sir thanks
Google translate didnt do a very good job of translating so Im not sure what you are asking.
Very nice 👌👍😊😊😊
I need Help ASAP. Those 3 or something LEDs that didn't turn on, were they burnt? I'm using my good old eye and flashlight to spot bad LEDs. Is that enough? I only spotted 1 bad one. The rest are OK and don't show any defective signs under the clear plastic things on top of them. I'm asking because I don't want to spend like $80 bucks on the whole set, I only need one LED strip. I guess? Also, because I don't want to get electrocuted by testing them.
yeah i had a few that were burnt out. one bad led can make them all not work. if thats all you need is one strip then thats great.
Thanks.
To test mine I plugged in TV and turned it on with the screen off and LEDs exposed and you can see it flash before auto shutdown , I could see 3 whole strips dead. Then I plugged in the L1 & L2 strips and they lit up and all stayed on so through process of elimination I found that the R1 and R2 strips were the bad ones, after I bridged (+ & - ) together all the strips turned on and I could see the rest of the individual broken LEDs. I soldered all of them and It still works, I thought a short circuit would heat up but I guess not if it is a specific voltage limit, it is also DC. I then thought if I did not bridge it or short circuit it, then the remaining LEDs could have more voltage forced through it and burn them out faster. well just keeping brightness lower for moment.
Kevin Cyr thanks, but I already fixed it a long time ago with just using a magnified lens and seeing for any burnt LEDs. it worked for me ☺
some of mine that didnt work had no visible sign
I have some issue in my lg tv, some 2 lights are visible in the screen always, can you please tell me how to solve it. thank you
Are they little tiny dots?
AveRage Joe yes, tiny dots
AveRage Joe I think 2 LEDs are glowing always
Santoshkumar Yadav
If they are really tiny like a pin head and white then your LED screen has a few dead pixels. Those cant be fixed.
led micromax32" no picture only audio old give us suggestions to repair
Did you try any of the steps I took in the video?
I think I connect a full strip with one partial strip the L side so all would work (when enough are burnt out the TV has an auto disconnect, I think when it is more than 3 or 4 , so since I eliminated on bad strip I could see which specific ones were out, and I did bridge them because if I did not then the 3 or 4 bad LED limit is passed and it shuts the whole thing down. Who ever left this thing on the side of the road must have the brightness cranked for years, really unnecessary if watching TV at night. I think the vivid setting cranks brightness up, also sidenote; there is a brightness setting and a backlight level setting which are seperate.
Awesome, glad you got it going.
What TV model is your lg
Assan Miah Its a 47ln5400
Which colour of the LED i choose?? Multi or a single blue...???
They are white 👍
Bravo !
Thank You!
Can i use super glue to stick cap over led in led tv?
Ya you sure can!
Same problem help me
I think you started to blow the diodes you replaced because there is a Lack of heat transfer between the LED & copper strip which I believe that acts as a heatsink as well as a conductor,at least in the LG television sets, one that I'm working on now.
I was thinking about soldering a standard led in,but then I heard of the trouble you have been having with that.
The LG unit I pulled apart last night has 7 LEDs on each strip & 3 strips in total which equals 21 LEDs connected in series which are rated at 6 volts each in an LG unit.
That means a total of 126 volts DC is needed to run the diodes,I got between 125 - 130 volts dc out of the power board so that was o.k.
I found that 2 of the 3 strips were o.k. when connected to 24 volts DC.
The other strip didn't light up so I removed all of the diffusers to test the LEDs with my multimeter & selected the diode test setting.
5 of the LEDs had a 0.7 volt drop across them (o.k.) whereas 2 of them were at zero volts (open circuited).
So,I will order some 6 volt surface mount LEDs from China for the unit then solder them into position !!!!
Yeah this is all I could do at the time. If more leds go out I will replace them with the surface mount leds because I have a couple of led strips from another tv. Will post a vid if and or when it happens and update the description box.
Russell Booth
No, his replacement LEDs burned out because he used run of the mill 5mm leds. That for all we know is rated for 20mA. The TV led driver board is going to regulate current, so it could be targeting 200mA. Of course the leds are going to fail. Also, doesn't matter what resistor you put in series with it because the power supply regulates current, so it's going to ramp up the voltage until it gets to desired current.
If it was a thermal problem it would work for a short while, but he said it burned out immediately.
+jeffescortlx Yes Sir!
greets from Poland super
good job but you should use smd led like the original, you can find on Ali express or e bay.most used diode is lg led 3528, its 3.2v but that doesn't mean is the right diode for every tv .I don't recommend to short + - that mean more voltage for other led's.trust me i have replaced more than 300 diodes by now
Robert M Yeah I agree, I just used what I had avaliable at the time. Thats another reason why I turned the backlight down. If the tv goes out again Ill replace the bad with new.
I have got the same problem with my sony led 32 inch
Sir i have THOMSON 42PB130S5 Intuiva(2005), when i connect DVD, Sat
receiver, USb etc i get audio perfectly, but the screen doesn't display
anything not even light. technicians around me don't have any idea on
how to go about it. could you help me sir. actually works fine except
for the screen that remain black.
Does the screen have video at all or did it quit on everything. If video has stopped on everything then do the flashlight test to see if anything shows up on screen. If you can see picture with flashlight then that means your backlight has gone out. This could be the backlight inverter board is bad or one or more of the cfl bulbs are bad. There are a few videos on youtube that show you how to check the inverter board to find out if just the board is bad or a cfl is bad.
no video at all. i just get the audio. the flash light test is negative as well
search on how to test main board
Hard talks about
how did you test the light strips?
+Mario Padilla I used a little 12vdc power supply (wallwort)
+mario padilla Oh, there are little round test points
I used one from an old wifi router. You can find them on your old devices, no need to buy as you probly already have it,
perfekt video perfect time
+Jan Petrů Great!🖒
Watched a few videos on this subject. This one was the only one to suggest shorting the contacts as the "easy fix". I did it & it worked. Thanks!
These SMD LEDs gotta be a standard spec across so many models of TV. You'd think they'd be easily & cheaply available on ebay?
Thanks!!! Yeah this was the cheapest easy fix that I could come up with. Sure its not the best option but its still up on the wall and working great. Agreed, they should be easily and cheaply avaliable. Glad it helped :)
