  • In our second video dedicated to the Bolton mini-faction release, we'll discuss some list-building opportunities in the new faction. Before running through list options, we'll also explore the NCU options available to Boltons, as well as focusing specifically on Tybald, discussing in detail how he interacts with the tactics board. Stay tuned to the channel for our final Bolton faction release video, in which I'll do a Bolton army showcase, displaying my painted Bolton units. Enjoy!

    *UPDATES* 01 APR 2024
    Since Season 04, Tybald was changed to no longer work in the way that I describe in this video. Tybald can no longer change zones after he's already claimed a zone on the tactics board. Tybald's ability can now only be used *before* he has activated. This allows you to potentially ensure you get all of your NCUs on the tactics board in a 3 NCU vs. 3 NCU matchup. It also allows you to, for example, have Tybald claim the Wealth zone with one of his order tokens immediately after your opponent has claimed the Swords, which will immediately heal up a unit and then allow you to activate a unit or another NCU afterwards. This new way of Tybald working can hurt your activation advantage however, since you're not using Tybald's actual activation to set off his ability. I'm pretty disappointed by this change. The old Tybald was one of the coolest things about the Bolton faction. This update, combined with the addition of Neutral NCUs, means Tybald will be seen a lot less in Bolton lists.
    Here are some additional list-building options that either didn't make the 2-list cut for the video or were contributed by the community:
    Roose Bolton:
    1. Double Archer List - this list has Sour Archers and Steelshanks Archers, along with Roose in BG and a unit of Flayed Men. Steelshanks in the Archers makes ranged use of Seeing Their Flaws, where my lists make use of STF in melee units. This list is 39 points, so you can swap out Ramsay NCU or Tybald for Jeyne Poole if you wish. Walda is good here to fish for Seeing Their Flaws and keep pulling it out of the discard pile. Thanks to @powerliftertroglodyte9525 for the idea! asoiaf-stats.com/builder/PLAYEReu-west-2:cb4fe1ab-7e58-4698-9fbc-4b5ce6e5ee3fLIST836c9870-4e4b-11ee-a661-b39401101c0a

    Love that roose list! I may have to test that. As always… best ASOIAF content on CZcams.

    Another combo with Tybald you can do it nominate the horses. If opponent doesn’t claim it then you have a double activation for horses free move + your activation for a charge or attack + charge on BBG. Nothing major gamebreaking but the double activation combined with a free move can be pretty handy for getting a crucial charge off. Especially if you are 2nd player of a round and you know your opponent is wanting to claim the swords as their 1st activation

      I like that idea! I used the swords+Tybald example since it seemed the most reliable and universally useful, but the long distance charge option is great as well, especially as a choice when swords is taken by the opponent, as you said.

    So happy you've posted some list building. I think this is where I really struggle right now

      Hope this helps. None of these lists are actually proven, so this is all speculative at the moment. But hopefully this can be a starting point for some folks.

    That Ramsay list is almost exactly like the one I’ve made in preparation. Look sick

    My hope is that they will strengthen some units next patch.

      @imperialminis857  Před 10 měsíci

      Strengthen Bolton units? It's unlikely that they'll update units within one update cycle of that unit's release. It's not something they commonly do. I would like to see how the faction performs once it has been out in the wild for a few months and maybe once it's hit a big tournament or two. I think an easier buff for the faction would be for the devs to allow Neutrals to be used int the faction, or at least *certain* neutrals.

    Hey man, picked up the Boltons and your videos are helping me get an idea of how to run them.
    Could you possibly do an "updated" video on the boltons now they're able to use Neutrals?

      @imperialminis857  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Glad you’re enjoying the videos! I hope the Bolton battle reports have helped show you what they’re like in action. My earlier Bolton discussion videos were still pretty theoretical since I hadn’t put them on the table yet at the time of filming. A Bolton Update video is a good idea! I’ll keep that in mind.

      @@imperialminis857 I watched the battle report against the Starks you recently posted to see whT they're like in action. I look forward to seeing more battle reports with them in. They're not the most competitive faction but they sure are fun!

      @imperialminis857  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @MegaArmyCadet123 Agreed, not the most competitive (we’ll see what Season 04 holds) but you can’t deny they’re fun to play!

    What do you think of doublr archers in a roose list. One archer with walton. Isnt its easier to pop seeing their flaws card with just shooting in from afar? Furthermore u can use walda to have back that card from the discard pile, its a pretty good boost for the controll part of the deck.

    • @imperialminis857
      @imperialminis857  Před 10 měsíci

      I actually do like the idea of a double archer list with Roose for exactly the reason you describe. I wanted to keep the video short and only give two lists per commander, but if I did three lists, a double archer Roose list would have for sure been on there. I plan to get an extra unit of archers for this reason.

    will you be redoing these for season 4, or did anything change in Boltons? Thanks for your content, its amazing!

      I haven’t thought about doing an updated Bolton video yet for my channel, but I can tell you that I have filmed a season 4 update video with the Hits and Crits channel that should be out on their channel in a week or two. That video discusses Bolton and Neutral changes in Season 04 and offers some suggestions for neutral units to take in Bolton armies. I’ll think about doing an updated version of this video though since so much has changed with the inclusion of Neutrals. Thanks for the comment and support!

    I really like your work. Keep at it!
    Regarding Maester Tybald, as per latest FAQ, p.8:
    ''...
    [NEW] TYBALD
    Q: Can Tybald use Deceitful Envoy if he has already Activated?
    A: Yes.
    ...''
    Sounds like this overrules the latest rulebook amedment. What's your new take on it?

    • @imperialminis857
      @imperialminis857  Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks for the support! The FAQ entry you cite above is in line with the way I describe Tybald as working. The Rulebook Errata that I cite in the video basically says, “If you use a Tybald order token, before he has activated, to claim a zone on the tactics board, he cannot then activate later while already on the board”
      The FAQ entry you cite makes possible the scenario I describe in the video: “If Tybald activates and claims a zone (swords for example), he can later use a Deceitful Envoy order to move to another board zone”
      It’s confusing at first, for sure!
