No matter when or how many times you hear this, it invokes something within you. Brilliant!
Everyone going crazy about the trumpet player messing up at 0:52, it is WAAAAY harder than it looks. He did a fantastic job overall. If you're so quick to criticize, I'd like to see you play the same thing in front of an audience of 6000 people. It's already hard as it is because it's so high.
In these sorts of situations where you're playing the lead part way up there in the higher registers, things can seem and feel like they're in control and then the next second you can spontaneously crack a note without warning.
SE But he didn't mess up... At least not as much as you guys think he did, it was written in the music! He did it once before at 0:44
Shirley Z It's definitely not written in the music. I'm a trumpet player, and have *attempted* that part before, and it's just very high. The overtones and pitch intervals are so close together at that pitch that sometimes you can just miss them, which is what he did here; nailed it at 0:44, but just missed it on the second pass at 0:53. David McCallum is a truly excellent lead player though, so shows just how hard it is to hit. Besides, his last night more than makes up for it :P

+SE that was actually supposed to be there as when monty norman discovered the theme he asked john barry to add jazz to the song and in this version they emphasised the jazz by adding a high pitched squeeze of jazz
