Thats actually a pretty tame response from a food company especially on the bakery side. The industry is full of wanabe tyrants that filter all the way through from directors to the shop floor. I worked in the industry for 30 years at multiple companies and all were the same. This one looked reasonable from the outside but would hazard a guess that the inside is far worse.

Witness protection. If he was indeed in the witness protection program that would be between him and his handler, he couldn't tell anyone or he's off the program. Depending on the nature of the protection it could be pretty cheap, no new identity, but moved to a new location. But it could be extremely expensive, think James Bulger's killers.
So for him to come out and broadcast his participation of witness protection is complete rubbish.

Theres a massive difference between relocation and individuals under witness protection. When you talk about the SOers the perpetrator is given the relocation and assistance yet the victim gets nothing apart from the abuser being moved.

The problem with that is that: After asking permission to do something that is completely legal and entirely within your rights, is that silly people try to deny your request. Then if you go about your legal activity, wouldn’t that seem even more impolite?
Plus,the initial and easiest response to any request is to Deny. People deny requests without knowing if they have the authority to deny the request.
