I can say, as someone who likes wooden toys - I like this toy. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful project to create & a delightful robust battery free toy to give. We are so lucky to have the means to share these wonders.
Great project. Looking forward to seeing the smile on grandsons face.
Loved this week's project...so simple, yet so crafty. NICE!!!
2x4 technology at its finest. Some of the funnest projects come from within a 2x4. Great video.
I've got my first grandchild on the way in a couple of months; this is absolutely going into my list of things to make when he gets a little older. :)
The only thing that was missing from the Harry's gift set was condoms. You know, because after shaving you'll be irresistible. :) Seriously now, this is a great project for young kids.
The harry's commercials are the reason i watch every Friday.
+Justin Fiaschetti LOL! Ditto Justin. I was just thinking the same thing! Of course I liked the eBates commercial alot!
+Justin Fiaschetti Normally I hate commercials in videos but he does a really good job to bring us the commercial in a funny way.
What do you use to paint or stain these toys that are child safe?
I love every time you post a video. I wish you did a blooper reel.
Good video, I started my foray into woodworking by building simple cars and trucks. I called them 2x4 toys because that was what I used primarily to make them with. Then I got into "presentation models" More detailed and with a company name or logo on it (18 wheelers, tractors and excavators, etc). No money in it, but a lot of fun to build and nice gifts to give. Keep up the great videos!
simple and effective! I had a truck very similar to this that "lived" at my grandparents house...it was a plain wood finish instead of painted, and had a flatbed style trailer that held "logs" as you say at the end, there are a LOT of possible additions you do could with this, and whole fleets of vehicles that could go along with it....
I liked the cut outs for the axle's better then the original through holes. Nice job Steve.
Good save with the axle design option Steve! The exchangeable parts are a great idea. A cement truck mixer would be fun to turn on the lathe.
Rare earth magnet on the truck and a chunk off metal rod glued into the bottom of attachments might make easier for kids to play when the hole loosens a bit over time.
Steve Carmichael I make multiple trailer attachments. Car hauler with cars. Logging truck with some branches. flatbed they can put anything on. A rail system for hauling g plastic animals etc. Just look at the different Trucks and you can build a dozen interchangeable bed trailer combos. The most popular is the tow truck bed. Boys always grab that one first.
I built a truck using a 1x4 for the bed/ frame and 2x4 blocks for underneath to hold the axle my grandpa told me to use a bolt for the axle because kids will sit on the back of the truck
My grand kids love "working" in the shop with me, and this is a great idea. We've made some train cars and an old Flintstones type car so this will fit right in. Might be another video in my future! I'll definitely check out the other links you gave. Nothing like quality time with the kids in the shop. You get to talk about all kinds of stuff and even slip in a little life philosophy as well. Thanks for the ideas!
I think the axle design option is actually really good for those of us without a drill press.
Such a fun project! Mistake? No way... it's time for a design option! Love it!!!
I'm glad someone still pays homage to The New Yankee. Thanks for sharing, Steve. You're the man!
I used your idea to make Santa's sleigh with hidden wheels and instead of plain blocks, I made them wraped gift boxes ..
thanks Steve .. you are really an inspiration to most of us ..
keep going!!! waiting for next video!!
Extra great project and I know a lot of children will enjoy them THIS Christmas. Thanks for sharing Steve. God Bless
I really like that you include "design options". Great for newbies like me.
What a great project Steve! I have a 7 year old grandson that is going to love these trucks! Thanks so much for the free plans too!
It's really great that this projects only requires one 2x4.
+MyOutdoorPlans likely could get it out of a few scraps if that's all you had....
I was so hoping you were going to say "and a pear tree" after the micro jig commercial. Thumbs up for that!!!!!
Harry's should pay you more. Too funny!!!
I really like your Harry's commercials.
The truck build is a dandy!
You got Jacksfilms beat for the best Harry's commercial!
Always looking forward to Friday's!
I like the project, great gift idea for toddlers. To make a real secure connection you could countersink some magnets into the truck hitch hole and the truck accessories.
cool project...and i like the way you leave the messups in the projects where you mess up
Fun project, well executed! That wheelbase 'design option' is so incredibly relatable... lol
17 chuckles, 6 likes, 1 Harry's, 1 Truck (modular), 1 Happy Little Camper that receives it for a gift, well minus the Harry's..I thought very highly of the video and the Truck was cool too !!
Finnaly a Norm Abram quote again! Loved it Steve!
You know what? You're just awesome, and so are your projects. These people that dislike your ideas are just dumb as hell. The more I watch your designs, the more I want to start some woodworking too :)
Keep up the great work, you are one of my favourtie woodworkers here on youtube :)
This will be a great idea for grandson and granddaughter.
I can't wait until Friday to see your videos. I love the fact that you make mistakes and don't edit them away. To me that says pure class. I also love the homage to Norm Abrams! As soon as you started his face popped in my head. Please keep the videos coming and Merry Christmas!!
This is really cool. I organize a wooden toy Toy Drive every year where I work. We might have to try this out as a possible new toy.
Loved the Norm reference!
Thanks! I just made this for grandson
The commercials are Hilarious!!!
The harry's commercial was funny!
Trailer hitch: King pin/ fifth wheel. What a grand project. Going to check on the Duck Train.
Design options, sequel to rustic charm
thays great steve. im gonna add this to my Christmas list ..i thought it was a dump truck insteada camper.but i guess the top need to be hollowed out. thatd be one big mortise..lol thanks for the great ideas..
+Steve Ramsey thanks .i appreciate that
Elegant solution on the axle slots Steve!
Great project so
Steve. I have nephews that would love this.
I love that you referred to that Woodworking show where the guy says "read, understand and follow" I always thought it was hilarious he said understand.
Billy Gibbons hasn't seen a razor since he went through puberty. Great idea with the exchangeable trailers. I need to make a bunch of these for my little guy.
Steve, thank you so much for you consistent inspiration. You're an awesome guy and if your ever in Atlanta Ill buy you a beer.
Great video. I like the "Design Option". I use that quite a bit myself.
I love your ad videos they're always so amusing to watch. Haha. Also great project thank you so much for sharing your idea.
Lol, I actually enjoyed that Harry's bit
amazing holiday gift idea. lots of love from Iceland
well done and good luck
*gets excited at prospect of a project where the shiney spray paint is encouraged*
Great video Steve, thanks for sharing. I would like to see more simple wooden toy projects.
Love your projects! This is my most favorite channel on CZcams!
You really do make, not just woodworking but also, your videos really fun and entertaining. My Friday's are better once I watch Steve. Keep up the good work and great project. :D
I want to see a few more small toy ideas please. This is good
Great vid Steve, even love the Harry's plug in the middle.
It's a perfection sir🖒🖒🖒🖒
beautiful truck congratulated the kids will love
I love wood work, but after finishing college I've not been doing it much, due to the lack of materials and fancy tools :P But one day I'm going to build myself a nice shed and fill it with drills, saws and sanders!
Another Great video by the one and only Steve Ramsey..
Steve are the plans for the truck still available?
Beautiful toy! Cool project!
design option ftw!
Awesome Steve! Also loved the Norm reference.
"Design Option". I love it!
Your camper needs some holes drilled in the top to hold crayons
+Derek Cadmus Awesome idea.
"Be sure to read..." By time you got that far in, I knew where it was going, and I wasn't disappointed. I was laughing like a maniac, at work. That was great. Thanks lol. Great project too.
Great toy idea. A (very small) modification that some people might want to make is to have the dowel on the truck instead of the accessories, then you only have to cut a hole in the accessories instead of putting a dowel in each one.
this is soo fricking creative!!!
Awesome project, Steve! I know my son would love this. It just so happens we have a toy building contest coming up for our year end holiday meeting of the Sin City Woodworkers club here in Vegas too. Perfect timing!
Maybe embedding magnets in the camper and dumptruck bed so they don't fall out as easy. Love this project.
The "trailer hitch thingy" is a fifth wheel and the peg is called a king pin.
Great project, as usual.
You make some very beautiful toys!
Great Job Steve,
That looks great Steve!
Hi Steve, that's my back-up channel because I have some problems with this one and I could probably shut it down. I hope not, I still don't know. It's complicated stuff. In case I shut it down I'll definitely make everyone know, for now it's ''incognito''. Cheers
I lost it when you put the box on the tree.
Ohhh God... I completely lost it twice during this episode! xD
Love your humor, now i gotta go wipe off my tears and get my cheeks out of a cramp.
You make advertising fun again.
Awesome homemade toy
I loved the design option. Great project!
Nice job, Steve. I like how you drilled the hole for the trailer hitch "thingy"!
Charlie
Trailer hitch thingy is called the king pin. Nice project.
My boy would love this! Awesome Video.
Very nice I will do that to my daughter
I would have loved something like that as a kid
Great build. You should use a round over bit with bearings on it. That way you dont burn the wood
fun little project as usual. When will you be dong the toy box fund raiser. I missed last years.
Great turnout!
Good idea! I like it. Thanks for what you do and for sharing it with us.
Awesome Steve
Perfecto es un camión muy parecido al que hago ...con este modelo copio otras cosas....gracias....felicitaciones.
42 pessoas que não tiveram infância assistiram este vídeo... :D
Obrigado, Steve, por mais este projeto tão bonito!!!
It maybe a good idea to recommend a paint to use with childrens toys
Milk paint! I'm not sure if there are others, but that one came to mind.
+John Griffiths I think this is a good discussion. There are lots of certified toy safe paints. Are these paints a marketing gimmick? Is regular paint safe enough?
Art Mechanics I am not an expert, but for me, better to be safe than sorry
Hey Steve love the videos every week. I always look forward to them.
Great project once again!!!!
Agent Cynyr, perhaps try staining with food coloring (like Easter egg stuff)???
Obrigado !!!
I just might make something like this for christmas. :)
