- G'day guys, today we are reacting to Eva Cassidy with Over the Rainbow. I think this performance is the most emotional that I have ever heard. The emotion the Eva has in her vocie is heartbreaking.

Eva sang from her heart and soul and died 10 months after this concert from skin cancer, she touches our souls with her songs...such a gift ❤
I swear i cant make it it past the first line in this song wuthout my eyes filling up. Easily the best version ever sung. Its one of those songs you've heard a million times but you hear this and you feel it. Brings me so many memories if my mum who passed away when my daughter was 3, she loved this version and my daughter now 15 actually learned to play it as a surprise because she knows how much it means to me. I like to think my mum heard her play... what can i say its just stunningly beautiful 💜
I can't stop listening to this. It is so hauntingly beautiful.
This is her song now and forever. So sad, she passed away half a year later... Really one of the greatest singers ever.
So great !pure beauty, such an emotive interpretation!! Wow !!!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING....Dear friend it is absolutly superb...
EVA you are a genius and an awsome human being...
It touches my very soul and leaves me in silent, every time. RIP, Eva.
There's nothing left to be said. She OWNS the song now.
100%
No one should or could do it again
Not any more !! Lucy Thomas sang a tribute to Eva of OVER THE RAINBOW, and owned that song !!! Lucy is so much better singer than Eva, you have to watch it and see and HEAR it, STUNNING performance to honor Eva !!!
I’m a grown man and it makes me cry every time.
Her rendition of Autumn Leaves is perfection too. She was such an amazing artist. It's so strange that people "found her" after her death.
Somewhere over the rainbow she is still hitting those notes for a better audience than us. What a gift.
Her guitar play is overlooked ... Just immaculate alll over
Having recorded in studio myself, I can say this is a different experience altogether. She achieved perfection in a live performance!!! Her performance engaged a nightclub audience to the point of being speechless!! I'm in awe of so many aspects of this, but people who have never recorded can't conceptualize this "other thing" that happened here. She takes everybody to eternity and back with the song and performance, but I've seen comments from a few other musicians about what was achieved in that 5 minutes and it's hard to even consider, much less describe in words, what happened!!

The first time I heard this was at a funeral. Needless to say I cried like a child.
Hits me the same way. I think there's a little added sadness when you know that she passed at just 33 years old. RIP
I’m so thankful that these live recordings exist 🥰
Best version ever. Wow. The lonelyness indeed. Beautiful.
She's does an amazing Field's of Gold too
And Songbird of course
@@NickBR57 Agree!
Yes, she does a fabulous job on Fields of Gold.
Eva was amazing....thank you for this reaction
My 5th reaction in a row of of this live recording of Eva Cassidy doing this song. I can't get enough of it. Never heard of her before tonight. On Wings of Pegasus' version he told of what she went through with cancer berfore she passed. Coincidently, I am having day sugery tomorrow morning to remove a cancerous sore on my back and her singing, playing and passing even though it was 27 years ago, it has blessed me and prepared me in a way only the Lord could have seen fit to bring to me, Amen
Thanks for sharing. Yes Eva becomes a part of our lives instantly. I wonder why so many of these reaction channels, youngns are just starting now to hear Eva.??? Did the SOS just go out - alarm - listen to Eva ? She's been known, I've played/sung her style since 2000. It's like before Eva and after Eva. Never the same. You can't not cry or you're just not getting it.
RIP Eva Cassidy... If love is patience like the saying goes she exemplified pure love. The way she played and sang with such a sense of patience was just sheer beauty. Thanks for the great raw reaction. If a man has a heart no matter how tough a man he is this raw emotional gift from Eva will show what's at your core.
God called her home early for a command performance. She does leave one speechless because there's no way to describe what she does. Her voice is so astonishing we sometimes forget she's also the one playing that perfect accompaniment on guitar. Never was and never will be another one.
I think I own every thing that Eva sung that has been released and in my opinion Eva's voice is simply a hug for the soul.
Voices like Eva's can stop you in your trax no matter what is going on in your life. The beauty and clarity is astonishing to my ears!
RIP sweet Eva i guess somebody needed you more than us earthly beings did.
Her version of Cyndi Lauper's classic Time After Time is yet another example of Eva taking a wonderful song and giving it a touch of the divine
A beautiful voice, and incredible guitar work as well. She had it all.
"LONELINESS" - EXACTLY RIGHT. PERFECTLY DESCRIBED. BEAUTIFUL. ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY. THANKS FOR PLAYING IT.
I discovered her in 2001 and she is just amazing and wish she could have been here to see how much people loved her music.
I've watched so many reactors react to this. Although what they felt was over a range from "hope" to "sadness" to "loneliness" (etc.), the key is, they FELT this. Usually, very strongly. Thank you for letting us see that in you, too. This is a magical duet between her voice and her guitar.
Never cease to cry when I hear her. I especially love her rendition of Fields Of Gold and I Know You By Heart
She has some voice huh? Her arrangement, and her phrasing, just beautiful man, just beautiful. Diamonds in our ears.
Absolutely beautiful. She's one of my favorite voices. Fields of Gold will pull at your heartstrings(as do all her songs!)
Evas cover of Fields of gold is just fantastic, highly recommend it!
When I first saw this video a couple of years ago, I looked like I had been in a rain storm by the end of the song because I couldn’t control my tear ducts. All respect to the original singer and legend, Judy Garland, but this is the greatest version of the song I have ever heard. I believe Eva Cassidy was as close to a “perfect” singer as you can get due to her incredible control, beautiful tone and her fantastic, heartfelt phrasing that was packed with emotion and when you add her incredibly creative arrangements and acoustic guitar playing, you had the “total package”. When I heard that she had died at 33 y/o from metastatic melanoma several months after this was filmed, and prior to her music going “viral” around the world, I felt a combination of sadness and anger that a once-in-a-generation talent like her could be taken at such a young age while many murderers, rapists and other filth of society will live to ripe old ages………
My absolute favorite rendition of this timeless classic; such a profound loss. RIP Eva; sing with and for the Angels; they'll understand your true vocal beauty ✨💖🙏🏻🇺🇸
Autumn Leaves is another old song sung by many but her rendition will always be my favorite.
She was an amazing person!!! Was honored to call her a friend. The best voice I have ever heard, live or recorded...
Eva's choice to follow her own embellishments of the melody is stunning. There's such a wistful quality she brings to this classic song that tears your heart out. An aching lament for lost wishes. Her guitar accompaniment is as tasty as poured honey. What a gift she had.
Well put, James. Thanks.
For some reason, that first note just stuns people.
It is now her song. She makes everything her own. It does not make me lonely but hopeful that there is a better place where the ones that I have lost are and someday we will be reunited there. I sob every time she sings and her version of Autumn Leaves has the same emotional impact. Sting said, "Fields of Gold, is now Eva's song" after hearing her cover. You could not have words of higher praise. She was magical in her delivery and on that guitar, to special to remain among the mortals!
The most talented musician you've never heard of. Eva's voice is absolute perfection in its range, control, tone, and emotional resonance. It just connects with your soul and brings tears that you can't explain. She is a fantastic finger-style guitarist, too. Her untimely passing was such a loss to the world.
An individual that has this caliber of this musical and voice perfection of this lady is extraordinarily exemplary. she knew by this time that she had terminal skin cancer. That last line just kills me!
Eva remains undefeated. All hearts melt when she sings this
Exquisite, superb and downright moving. Almost always brings a tear to my eyes.
I never get tired of listening to Eva's vocal gift. Remember, this is a live recording at Washington, D.C.'s Blues Alley nightclub. Oh, and Eva had a cold that night. A proud daughter of our DC Metro area here, Eva lives and lives and lives. #RIP Songbird.✝✝✝
Thanks for not interrupting.
It's so cool seeing so many people have the same reaction that I had when first seeing this video, and that's WOW! Musical and emotional perfection
This is the absolute gold, no, platinum version of this song. There is none finer. I've listened to it probably over a hundred times- always alone, with a box of kleenex, 'cause I KNOW what it does to me- it dissolves me into a puddle of tears. Every. Single. Time. Eva pulls my heart right out of my chest with this one. And knowing her backstory just sharpens the blade. I am always gutted by this song, and I've seen a few reaction vids...even tough guys are usually crying like babies by the end, and deservedly so. Such pure, pristine, raw beauty is hard to handle.
As well-put as anyone could state it. Thank you.
Within 10 months she woke up where the clouds were far behind her. Where troubles melt like lemon drops. She had perfect pitch and thus ... "Diamonds in our ears".
She is incredible. She OWNS this song, and Sting said, after hearing her sing 'Fields of Gold' it's not his song any more. She OWNS that one too. It's the same for everything she does. 'Falling Leaves'.. WOW! I hope her Mom gets royalties for the times Eva's songs are played. I'm sure she need help. She is very elderly at this point. Your response is perfect. I am in tears. Found Eva several years ago.. she is extraordinary. (This was recorded the year she died)..
Fantastic reaction to Eva. I consider her to be one of the finest female vocalists of our time. And there have been many great voices, but as you said none as emotive is that. And not to forget that she did her own arrangements and her guitar playing is beyond worldly.
If you have not already done it, I would recommend Bridge over troubled Water by Eva. That's a powerful song to begin with and she does it more than Justice.
Your reaction videos are the best that I've seen on youtube since I discovered the reaction videos. Let me tell you why yours are the best. First and foremost is the ratio of the screen. The video of the performer is equal to yours. Most everyone else has the video in a 4" rectangle in a corner and the reactor's face covers the rest of the screen. You don't sing along with the video to prove to everyone how hip you are to know the lyrics and the melody. You don't rock back and forth to show how the beat moves you. You intently watch the video and listen and then give your opinion. Refreshing. Also we don't see you chug a lug a drink every 8 bars and then have to see you swallow and wipe your mouth on your sleeve, or worse your arm. Most reactors talk over the video to tell us what the performer is doing as if we couldn't see for our selves. They never shut up and watch the video so that they can give their honest opinion. Makes me believe that they have seen the video many time before and have practiced what their going to tell us along with their reaction. Thanks again for keeping it real. Looking forward to your next video.
Amen.
Love this....its Over the Rainbow adulting now that its grown up.
awesome. thanks for allowing us to hear the whole piece front to back uninterrupted and see and share in real-time your full raw emotional response and comments on the whole. we want to see you emote and lose your bearings for 10min just like everyone else.
Thank you Llye. You're one of the few class acts out there doing reaction videos. Eva's it's a wonderful world is very nice.
Great reaction video, I fell in love with Eva’s voice around 20 years ago, and still love her today. To hear her amazing vocal range check out “Songbird” and “How Can I Keep From Singing”
Live at Blues Alley was Eva’s last live performance-last performance in general, and she knew it was her last. I was I trouble to her music about 20 years ago. Golden Thread is an INCREDIBLE song and a little more uplifting and showcases her amazing range. RIP Ms. Eva.
As someone who listened a great deal to her singing and guitar work since the late 90's. Wherever she might be, I think it is in the best of places. She deserves it. I have listened to her voice for 22 years. It ALWAYS brings me to tears. Rest well Eva. Your voice has brought me peace throughout many years.
I want this song, this version played to usher me into me next life. So magical and beautiful and so sung the way it was intended.
First, thank you for affording the respectful silence so deserved by Eva Cassidy's awe-inspiring talent. I was astounded when I heard her rendition of "The Tennessee Waltz" because I lacked the imagination to even conceive that it could ever be anything but a trivial classic. Eva brought it to life with her genius, talent, and absolute artistry! If you get a chance, give it a chance.
You really need to hear her version of "The Autumn Leaves" no less affecting than this. She is (or was) simply amazing!
Wistfulness is what I get, rather than loneliness. She sings this and makes it all her own. Suggestions by Eva:
I Know You by Heart
Leaves of Gold
Songbird
Fields of Gold
Autumn Leaves
Time After Time
What a Wonderful World
Wonderful suggestions, but I suppose we could list everything she has ever sung ❤
"I Know You By Heart" rarely gets reacted to (if ever?), but is actually my favorite of hers.
@@andyb7942 One of my very most favorites also. Let's ask Lyle to add that to his list.
@@andyb7942 it is a true love song, tender and sweet,in my view.
The best version of this song ever recorded.
You should listen to her version of Autumn Leaves at blues alley. The best and most haunting version I have ever heard.
Love her voice!
Eva was a gift and cancer robbed her of life.
Treasure this, and many more, "Autumn Leaves," "Songbird," "Fields of Gold" I adore, but absolutely anything Eva I 👏🏽.
❤👍🏽
This was Jan ‘96. In summer, she discovered her cancer. Passed Nov 2 of ‘96.
Thanks for doing this one. I've heard it countless times before so I knew what was coming but no matter how I try to harden my crusty old jaded cynical heart I weep every time.
The ending crack was a result of a cold she was recovering from, but somehow fit the mood so well. I'm so thankful she got to share her beautiful talents before she left this world.
Eva can sing anything (kinda of like Chris Stapleton can) and blow you away.
I'm not sure if Eva's fans also know that she was a wonderful artist. I have purchased several of her prints. They are enchanting.
I did not know that!! I’d love to see her pieces of art!!
Stunningly communicative with the lyrics and story. An amazing rendition of this "show tune," turning into an actual description of her feelings at that time. It is, in fact, a different song now.
New subscriber from Canada. Enjoy your posts and reactions. Six words: "Eva Cassidy, Blues in the Night." You won't believe it is her. Enjoy!
I do love all of Eva's slow emotional songs but there is so much more to this lady - she could sing like Aretha , Ella Fitzgerald ,Janis Joplin , Joan Baez - you name a style and she could bring it - blues ,jazz ,folk ,gospel , country and could even give Ann Wilson a run for her money singing rock - what a gifted artist
So sad she passed away in 96 She sang this song in i think feb diagnosed with cancer in june and passed i later that same year Such a loss Such a great talent
Eva was a precious treasure that we were robbed of. Her voice is so beautiful. First heard her sing "Songbird" several years ago. I cried then, but this one breaks my heart.
I mentioned elsewhere: Judy Garland sang a song of hope. Eva sang a song of desperation. Two different songs sharing the same words.
Best version I’ve ever heard!
Bless your kind heart xx hope you feel better soon x
Her version of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" is fabulous. She is the finest interpreter of established songs I've ever heard. Thanks a bunch for this reaction. Really.
Some music artists are spiritually driven and gifted. Eva blew me away the first time I heard her sing/play "Over the Rainbow" like no artist had ever done before (speachless). I stopped at a music store to buy her CD on my way home from work the day they played it on the radio.
Thanks for not interrupting her. So many seem to think they improve something extraordinary by interrupting it to fulfill their stupid egos. It was good to see intelligence and appreciation at work.
She has to be leading the angel band. She put so much sadness and longing into that song. It breaks your heart to think her voice was lost to us so soon
I remember Terry Wogan playing this, and her voice stopped me in my tracks. Her voice was mesmerising and it's a song that still has that affect to this day.
Great reaction. And a United fan too. 👍
Beautiful analysis
Eva's version changes the whole feel of the song. My tears are flowing. Loved your reaction. May I suggest "Fields of Gold" and "Songbird?"
Beautiful reaction, even more poignant when you learn she passes shortly after.Hope she got to be like the happy blue birds .Her voice is other worldly ❤
All other versions you hear, this one you feel.
Absolutely!
Your reaction to this is universal; sheer speechlessness
It's beautiful in its simplicity. ❤️
Loved her cover of that song ages ago when i stumbled upon it, she was inspiration for another loved artist of mine Katie Melua, and really appreciated your take on this one. I 've seen you reacting on nightwish'es shoemaker song and was quite amazed on your well rounded take on the song and the story around it. Keep up the good work!
Eva, brings you the goods, every time.
Eva had a cold when she did this live performance at Blues Alley, and was my introduction to Eva 10 years after her death. Eva takes the songs you thought you knew, and makes them brand new again as hers. I really don't consider them covers, because they are far from the original tunes. Mick Fleetwood was so impressed with Eva's ability and encouraged her to meet with recording executives. But Eva would not be swayed from doing songs that spoke to her, and doing them her way. When I start feeling bad, I put on her music. Knowing what she had to deal with, listening to her music helps me feel better.
My favorite female singer.
Fields of Gold!!!❤❤❤
When she hits those high power notes its just on a whole new level.. If that doesn't pull on the heart strings you aint human.. Her guitar playing is also amazing, so technical.. We were lucky she didn't bow down to the industry otherwise we would not have this.. This was recorded because she didn't sign, it was done as a result of saying no i wont conform..
A great and unique voice and this version far outstrips the original.
Gives me shivers at the high line variation.
There is no version to match this.
What a lost talent. She died too young. RIP Eva.
Really nice reaction... thank you!
PERFECT
Listen to her version of "Feilds of Gold" ❤
