  • A popular hymn from the 20th Century by composer John W. Peterson, now heard in True Intonation aka Pythagorean Tuning with A at 432Hz.
There was a slight controversy concerning the spelling of a chord in the chorus you will see and hear spelt and tuned as B-G#-F-Db, There was contention and deliberation how that perhaps the G# should rather be spelt as an Ab making the chord a German augmented 6th chord in 3rd inversion.
Having listened to both versions with the G# and with the Ab, and going back and forth about which was better, and of course praying about it. I landed with how it is written in the score, with a G#. It certainly is more dissonant in that chord, in that instant of time. With the G# I hear the chord as an F major chord with only the root present with a sharp 11 and flat 13. The G# is a non chord tone. Even though the version with Ab is smoother in a way, it also lacks the tension and emphasis of the F major tonic that the G# brings, that that section really calls for. Many have called this chord a strange variant of a German augmented 6th chord, others have called it a misspelling of a German augmented 6th chord, but I hear this chord in this context as an anticipated partial F major chord which resolves to a complete F major on the down beat of the following measure.
Going forward I shall, Lord willing, be using MuseScore 4, instead of 3, to do scores and playback. The sounds, interface, and even micro tuning are far better, once you get it set up. Already well at work on the next video, stay tuned, like and subscribe, and ring the bell so you will know of it upon it's release.
