    You have on the planting list Sow what does Sow mean? is it another Word for Germination? trying to do this for First time trying learn. I live in NY last Frost will be about Mother's Day May 10 2015. With that said want to try plant stuff indoors month's / Month before I plant it. Don't really have Idea where I'll plant them yet have some what of an Idea but Trial an Error I'll learn but growing it indoors when to start each thing is the Challenge rest is easy planted Tomatoes month ago about 6 inches tall lol. To early lol but did go to that Garden planner web site just looking for days grow them wondering about Sun Flowers too. so lets say sun flower talks total of 4 Months til Harvest should you plant it month and half indoors before planting it outdoors that about right? I know you can plant it indoors when ever but whens right time?

    • @GrowVeg
      @GrowVeg  Pƙed 9 lety +2

      Chicagoman36 Sow means different things to different people but here we mean starting seeds off indoors. Each type of plant requires more or less time indoors before you can transfer them outside (e.g. for eggplant it's often 8 weeks but for squash it's about 3) and also plants are more or less tolerant to cold outside (leeks and cabbage are resilient, basil not at all etc). That's why our Garden Planner is useful as it does all the calculations for you, using your local weather station data from 20-30 years.

      No... because this video doesn't even do what the title says. This explains how to use a piece of software, not how to plan a garden. Planning a garden involves understanding why you plant what you plant where you plant it and what to plant around it, etc.... not how to make a pretty software representation of your garden that will explain nothing, and teach you nothing about planning your garden.

However, you can enter your own planting dates and it will then use those.

      The area you plant up is usually called the vegetable bed, if you're planting vegetables. But generally anywhere that is planted up is referred to as a bed or border. The size, orientation and composition of the bed is what you would call its layout.

    • @GrowVeg

      The square foot gardening system does allow for dramatically closer spacing because of the extra-rich growing medium the plants are grown in. 16 carrots is possible in ideal conditions.

      We do try to balance out the occasional mention of our software with many videos that don't mention it. Hi @@GrowVeg thanks for the reply, I can understand where you are coming from, you do give helpful tips and are providing content for free.
      At the same time I assume most of your audience do not have the software so much of the videos focused on the software become a bit irrelevant to many of your viewers.
      I have also tried the Growveg software which I found useful to some extent, although it would be nice to have more varieties options when planting fruit trees or root stocks etc.
      My biggest gripe with the software is that it is a pay monthly suscription which I feel is too high. If it was say ÂŁ10 to purchase outright I would seriously consider it. I am an avid gamer also and so am aware of the development costs of building software and I am quite confident your software although good was created by a small team and so your development costs can't be that high and so the cost annually for me to purchase the software just feels too extortionate.
      Overall though I do think your channel is helpful so keep up the good work :-)

    • @GrowVeg
      @GrowVeg  Pƙed 4 lety

      Thanks for the kind remarks, appreciated. The development involved a considerable amount of work and the software is constantly being updated and refined. We reckon the annual subscription cost is more than outweighed by the extra volume of produce you can grow as a result of fine-tuning spacings and cropping plans.
      I hope you continue to enjoy the videos anyhow - thanks for watching!
