Getting seedlings off to a great start is an important step and transplanting them into bigger pots is key to making sure they have enough room to develop. Get it right and you'll have plenty of plants raring to go when the weather warms up and there's room in your garden.
In this short video, I demonstrate the best way to transplant seedlings and challenge myself to see how many I can transplant in a minute!

Brilliant - you must be so excited about getting up and running. There's so much that can be started in late spring, so it's a great time to get stuck back in.

Fabulous video. As I do not have a greenhouse and the ambient moisture one provides, there are two things I do differently: 1.) Looking toward separating seedlings, I sow the seeds somewhat more sparsely to begin with and wait for the first set of true leaves to pot them up into larger cells or containers. 2.) I remove them from the original container on top of a plastic sheet and separate them out onto that sheet and cover them with a second sheet of plastic. This keeps my seedling and especially their roots from drying out. I can gradually turn back the top sheet of plastic as I progress through completing my task of potting up.

Love the idea of the plastic sheets - so simple yet such a good idea!

you could use the lid as a tray for separating the seedlings.

      Yes, absolutely, that could work.

Excellent videos, clear and concise. Subscribed. Got a small terrace house here with a tiny greenhouse and love growing my own food. Got a few fruit trees that were planted 4-5 years ago and Raspberries and Rhubarb. In a 1.2m x 2.4m patch.

Ben you are so efficient with your 1 minute time challenge - I haven't got the room in my poly tunnel for a table and chair, so my back aches bending over on the bench! This year i didn't put anything straight in the ground and i think growing from seed in the tunnel has been far better! Thanks.

I'm just in the process of building my own greenhouse (with reclaimed and bought materials), but some lettuce I had starting on our kitchen window sill were looking a bit pail so I pricked some out today using your advice. I'm not too fussed if they don't make it (I'm still very early in the learning stages), but I'm very excited to get my greenhouse built so I can dedicate more space to raising seedlings and getting a better start to my garden.
