Rube Goldberg: The Master of Absurd Machines
Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist who drew absurd machines that performed simple tasks in complicated ways LIVES ON in JEEP engineering.

After my 92 YJ driver side exterior door handle broke I found several videos but yours had the most detail. Thanks for taking the time to make it - I was able to replace mine today.

Thanks for the video, great detail. A tip for anyone doing this, the sawtooth pieces are setup to be inserted/removed from the top. There is very little room to do this inside the door and it is very difficult to do on some models. Before you put the new handle in the door, remove the metal clip that engages the teeth on the sawtooth bracket, and flip them around 180 degrees, so they are upside down. NO tools needed for this, easy to do with fingers. This will allow the sawtooth brackets to install bottom-up, when in the door. There is much more room to access this way and makes the job much easier.

FYI to other YJ folks - the NAPA brand replacement interior handles hold up well. You can order them online and they come with the appropriate clips to lock the rods in. The clips that come with the new handle are not the same ones that come in the repair pack of clips. The ones on the handle are better by far and hold up quite well. The new interior handle will also make your now over 27 year old YJ look fancy.

Did this last week before finding your channel. Was pretty easy. Can't believe what jeep wanted for new door handle. Mine was worn in the driver's side and the lever would slide past the latch rod. Repaired rather than replaced and working great now. Would love to see something on suspension like leaf spring replacement.

Most people upload videos of their door handle being stuck, but able to open the door... so, "easy". Mine is stuck but is closed.... the "clamp", don't now the exact name, doesn't open. Help!

The rod in your door might be not not connected or seized. Go in the jeep, pry the interior plastics off, and move one of the rods to unlock the door and with the door open remove the parts and see what isn't able to move

@@offthejeepend178 I think what he was telling (which is my problem now) the door can't be opened. Need to get door panel off. Can't get panel off. Can't use special tool to get to fasteners - can't get to "interior plastic" to look at lock.
