The little detail that gets to me is how he apparently bought his girlfriend a fake diamond ring. Like, being a scammer extends into *every* aspect of his life.
Seriously. If you don’t have the money, just skip the ring because it’s the marriage that matters more. But to get a specifically ostentatious ring, so over the top it prompts your partner to ask “is it real?”, then lie? Yeah I’m not shocked he has an issue with lying.
I think the detail this sociopath proposed to her in a high end event which was important for her career just underlines what a malignant narcissist he is. he can't let her have the spotlight, he had to make it about him.

The scam behind Dream World is possibly the greatest IRL RP game I've ever seen. They both snuck their way into a high level dungeon using stealth and charisma points. Now they're stuck in the boss room with a lvl 99 Lawyer who just cast enrage.
Room about to fill with Kroll, Inc. 'risk management' hitmen AoE.
To bad that cheat they used to multiply their currency won't help them in a fight.
If we lived in the world of Arcanum, these two would be using their charisma to talk their way into convincing Josh and Kira to sacrifice themselves for the greater good of the game.

I'd say it's more a fairly even split between outright scams and starry-eyed people whose mouths are mailing checks their skills can't cash. With a few people sprinkled in who might have the chops to make something technically infinite (or as close as a computer can fake it)... but may or may not be able to also make it _interesting_
I interviewed to be a game developer for these guys' company, seemed legit since it was a YCombinator company. They mentioned they work 6 days a week and don't do work from home and I dipped out of there. I think I dodged a bullet

@@WorlWyrm basically if a company, especially one working on a *game*, requires office work, that's a red flag enough as most devs can and do work perfectly well online. and 6 days is not a well-rounded work week, if it's 40 hours then it just cuts into your personal time by adding a useless day, and if it's more then it's just an overtime machine sucking you dry with as many days as they can while still remaining productive. either way a company that cares not about their workers worklife balance and obviously has archaic standards by forcing unneeded commute time to a drab unfulfilling office environ.

As a game developer myself and only just now hearing about this whole thing. I am surprised this 'project' even got this much attention. You can easily tell everything in their demo's are just asset bundles, some of them even free ones. Everything they show off in their demo's would take an afternoon for most developers to throw together.

Then they remembered they had to add it for the plastic cunts, aka cuntsoles, sorry, consoles. And then came the "downgrades" (read compatibility patches) so that it wouldn't fry the P.O.S. components that are cheaply tucked into them. And they kept this going, for a long time, but not to much avail, because, well... Imagine having a baby calf, that still needed to grow in a full fledged cow... and then you just chop pieces out of it so that "gamers" (i swear console exclusive gamers should be rebranded as mobile cashgrab enthusiasts) could play it.
This Dreamworld situation is the most entertaining thing that’s happened since 2020 in the MMO department
I came for the scam mmo drama, but stayed for the developing story of two sociopaths who might be so deluded about their capabilities and reality that most people just assume it's a scam.

I wish Kickstarter would enforce their policy against the “fully funded in X hours” model. They specifically say *not* to do this. That would reduce the number of the unrealistically low goals and the number of people using that tactic to get to the top of the lists. KS is meant to help creators get the funding to produce something, not as an advertisement platform.

It’s a real shame as it reflects badly on indie devs. I have been creating a game for some time now and have funded it completely by myself. The reason for this is if it fails I won’t be disappointing the player base.

Hi! I just want to provide a quick bit of additional context on CORE Aegis, since I had a little bit of involvement in the product development. I wasn't directly involved in the project, but my brother was, and I was fairly good friends with Zach through him, so they actually asked me to be the audio tester for the speaker.
The process of developing CORE was pretty involved. Zach and my brother both traveled to factories in China to shop for manufacturers for the product, and they went through a decent amount of product testing with the full intention of bringing it to market. It was never meant to be a scam, and the idea for the speaker was fairly well thought out. Zach is a decent ideas guy, but he is just EXTREMELY bad at seeing things through (really not surprising given everything discussed here in the video). At any rate, they really meant this to be a legit thing, and the idea behind it actually makes more sense than just "it's a Bluetooth speaker you can wear in public."
Zach (like my brother) was a runner. He liked being outside and going for runs for fun and for staying active. And like most people, he likes listening to music while running. While he was at NYU, he was on a run when he got hit by a car-not seriously, but still enough to scare him a bit. The CORE was meant to be a runner's companion, not something you'd play music from while walking through the grocery store but something you'd use to listen to music while on a jog so you could still be aware of your surroundings. And, on top of that, it had a built in LED light ring, so cars could see you and you could see the road in front of you while running at night. Like I said, the idea wasn't bad; it just wasn't executed how it needed to be. On top of that, bone conduction headphones came out pretty soon after the main production process was about to start, and they accomplish the same goal in a much better way, so there was no hope of the CORE taking off.
I think the project ultimately got abandoned because the startup itself fell apart. Like I said, my brother was on the project, and he left because, well, he has bills to pay, and Zach clearly wasn't able to see things through. Without having anyone to handle the finances of the startup, Zach was lost, and had to give up and move on. Ultimately, I think that's where DreamWorld came from-he had to salvage his opinion of himself that he was a genius entrepreneur, and this was how he wanted to do it.

I'm here because of WickedWiz, Kira, and Callum. I've just lol over every single moment of the coverage you guys have done on this. I know I'm super late to the party as usual, but this is one of the very best cases to what I like to call Peter Molyneux Syndrome. Promising the world, delivering nothing but disappointment every time, then spend an insane amount of time backtracking and "clarifying" your previous vaguery and lies.

Don't you love it when random people walk up to the airport and be like "is flying hard? Maybe I can be a pilot" and the Company is like "Come right in for an interview!"
It’s actually not that hard, just takes focus.
Also take off is WAY easier than landing.
Planes and helicopters you have a hand throttle like a tractor, not a gas pedal like a car. You don’t need to let off the gas, so it’s more precise to a pedal. Planes you increase it enough to taxi, unlock the wheels, and taxi it to the run way. Then you pull out your hand throttle to give the the juice, build speed, and take off. Landing is as easy as keeping it completely steady and even (harder to be done though, especially in BIG RIGS), and you glide in with taxi power. The engines actually don’t go completely off.
Helicopters are even easier to understand. The 2 pedals turn you left and right, stick to your side is your “throttle” (I will get back to this), and the one between your legs is the tilter. The one between your legs adjusts what parts of the circle made by the blades have push. You push the stick forward, blades in the front go more flat and the back gains more of a vertical angle to push you up. That “throttle” as people think it is, actually just changes the entire circles forces evenly. So you can increase over all force while making a bias with the tilter. Just be loose and calm, and you’ll hover for the first time great.
Also not licensed, just flew my uncles hand built ultra light a couple times before he died. Flight is amazing!

Mainly saying anyone could do it, but in reality most will just kinda pretend to learn ignoring all possibility. I could summarize controls of flight off the top of my head in that length of text. You'd think that'd take a text book. I'll show you again with an alternative and more relatable example:
Driving is the same situation. Your throttle, gas, or torque pedal - always called a gas pedal for simplification - allows the driver to get engine power. Brakes, will slow you down via disc or drum, and a clutch just disconnects your engine and transmission allowing you to shift to any gear without grinding, and avoid stalling when still. The shifters of each tell you what the gear or drive mode is and the wheel just directs you where you want to go.
Summed up driving. Now can you drift? The only thing really stopping people is their willingness to learn the feeling of what they are doing. Most people feel rushed in 60 mph traffic to the point they forget and or do not care about directional signals. Yet I have seen plenty of people doing insane speeds: yet using them still, keeping to the right lane except to pass, and using proper judgement of speed, even just avoiding the cities cuz it's proper. Just like genuine pros. It's not hard to learn to drive like that whilst maintaining control, but most people fear learning the more extremes. It's even worse than stated, they ask but they do not truly intend on retaining anything. They'd take that job assuming the book teaches you all, then when one slip up happens, people expire.

Not even. This is probably 10x worse than Chronicles of Elyria. At least that project had some level of effort and original assets put in, and seemed like they were actually trying to make a game (regardless of how horribly mismanaged it was).

The most disheartening thing to me is the fact Y-Combinator let this in. There are (MANY) startups that fight to get large series funding that way, that already have teams lined up from outside networking that would be willing to be signed on day-one to begin development if funding were to arrive, yet these two, with no idea of the landscape they've entered in the gaming market, get a cart ride through the front gates. It's a pity.

When they said that reality can be stranger than fiction, I didn't believe them. Until this. This sounds more like a script for a TV show than an actual "game".

I’m rarely entertained by a sponsored segment, they are usually dry and boring. But that was fun to watch, kind of forgot it was sponsored in the first place.
The kind of person who playing music on their phone in public didn't work for them because the phone speaker isn't loud enough.
They most likely wanted to do the kickstarter, not for the money, but to show traction to other large investors. They probably pitched it by saying "see people are already paying for our game".
I can relate to this video and the points made perfectly. I have a long time friend who him and I tried playing Elder Scrolls Online twice now. However it never works out. He is a mechanical role player. All he cares about is stats, numbers, and grinding the same dungeon 20 times in order to get a specific piece of gear that will make his character one percent better. He goes out of his way to skip any exploration he skips all dialogue and before making a character he will research pure builds and follow a step by step guide for leveling up a character without ever looking into different skills and trying new things out.
For myself I am a role player I don't really care how much damage my character does nor what is the most powerful piece of gear in the game. That stuff is cool, however I'm more interested in my character story and my adventure within the world. I love to go off the beaten track meet new people walk into taverns and pretend I'm getting a drink after a long day's worth of questing. Because of our very opposite sides of gameplay we were never able to play ESO for long together.
