    here's how shady developers use emotional manipulation, time limits and extreme confidence to separate you, from you money, without actually having a product.

    Back in ye olden days, "alchemists" would take a kettle, fill it with their magical concoction (mostly water), a few small pieces of silver, and boil it in front of the lord's eyes. A little later they would remove the lid, and there it was - actual gold in the kettle!
    They did this by using a glob of wax to seal a couple of small gold nuggets to the top of the lid of the kettle beforehand, the heat would melt the wax after some time, and the gold would plummet into the kettle.
    They made a show of this, of course, and ended up getting hired by the lord, on quite the salary, and were provided lots of silver to produce more gold. Milking this as long as they could, making excuses, citing more time or materials needed, they eventually took a hike with the funds they'd acquired, never to be seen again.
    This worked hundreds of years ago, and it's still working today. Except the modern hucksters are less inventive.

      Some years ago I was almost fooled into purchasing a fake video card (of a model that apparently I cannot write here without the youtube filtering system immediately removing my comment, but the company name starts with an N, and the card model name is a three-letter acronym starting with an R, followed by a large number starting with 2), but I cannot write about it in youtube comments (as a warning on how the trick works) because the filtering system just keeps removing my comment.
      But yeah, it goes to show that even people who think they can detect such tricks sometimes can't.

      @ayy lmao Hermetic alchemy is about a philosophy. Alchemy isn't a real thing. In the beginning it was the guess work of natural science, but in practice and in the idea of what most people think of when they think of alchemy, it's the same as astrology and magic. It has no basis in reality.

    • @vixxcelacea2778
      @vixxcelacea2778 Před 2 lety +5

      @@WarpRulez So does CZcams remove it because they think that by you saying it that you are a scammer advertising a well known (well known enough for it to be part of a AI filter system) fake video card? I find this comment very dubious, almost as if you're trying to get people to look up or try to find the card. Which if so, this would be the weirdest way to do so, so I think that's not the case, but this is the internet, who knows. CZcams isn't good at actually removing comments that are spam or adverts, especially fake ones or scams, so I'm skeptical to say the least.
      You at least should be able to say NVidia and then hint at the number of the fake video card in question.

    • @thefakenews3150
      @thefakenews3150 Před 2 lety +11

      @Невада большевик 1. The Dunning-Kruger effect isn't some rare occurrence. It's an integral part of our personalities that is so pernicious it even has an effect on psychology professors who should know better. In one study psyche professors were asked to rate their teaching ability and that was compared to how students rated them. The worst rated teachers tended to overrate their abilities while the highest rated teachers tended to underrate their abilities. Thus the Dunning-Kruger effect must always be considered in analysis in much the same way you consider the placebo effect.
      2. A slippery slope by definition would be invalid, regardless of what people thought.
      3. If you cannot name the fallacy or at least construct it's formula, it is better for me to assume there is not one, rather than there is.
      4. I'm not sure if you understand my original premise: which is; the more you think you can't get tricked the more likely you can. That seems to me to be quite in line with what is happening during the Dunning-Kruger effect.

      "Confidennce" meaing "a scam" comes from another scam even older than selling the Brooklyn Bridge. Certain Samuel (or William) Thompson (not to be confused with a lot of other notable ppl with the same name) was just strolling around New York chatting up rich guys (he was quite good at appearing as one of their set) then asked them if they have "confidence" to lend him something valuable, then just never talked to his new "friend" again. Face of Mankind was not a scam, it was actually a very fun MMO that I used to play the shit out of. It was a purely player driven roleplaying game, the only NPCs were some tutorial quest givers and some hostile aliens on one of the planets (I actually started a cult that worshiped the aliens funnily enough). Almost everything in the game was player run, and it was great. And then they fucked it up with this fall of the dominion bollocks.
    And the claims on that kickstarter page were all true.
    The problem was that it outlived its appeal and slowly started to die and instead of letting it go out gracefully, the Devs just refused to let it die. A sad end to an amazing game that took up a lot of my childhood.
    It was a game that did exist, the problem was the devs refusing to let go of something that had seen its prime. A great game that ended up in the hands of a bunch of idiot devs.

      There is a fan film equivalent to what is happening in the MMO community... Long ago, all the Star Trek fan films lived in harmony. But everything changed when Axanar attacked."

      Meh, Dreamworld is one of a thousand similar scams. It's not the first, not the last, and not even particularly big. Just got a bit of attention.

      You think someone so aggressively and confidently stupid wouldn't do some mental gymnastics to still consider himself right? He's probably sitting there writing up an essay about how Josh hired professional video effects artists to make Taquito look like a fool, and that he's paid by youtube to gaslight everyone or some conspiracy drivel like that.

    There are outright scams and there are cases where the devs aren't smart enough to know what they can and cannot accomplish. What about sustainability? How long does an MMO need to last to be considered legitimate? If an MMO never releases with many of the promised features then we can call it a scam or incompetent failure. But what if the devs release an MMO and support it for one full year before abandoning it because players aren't giving them enough money to pay the bills, is it considered legitimate? I'm sure there are many MMOs that are being or have been developed that don't have a sufficiently large player base to make them viable businesses over time. Does that make them a cash grab/scam, or is it other behavior by the devs that needs to be considered?

      A defendant's character has to be established in a court of law. Which means smilin Aislinn will probably be called in to testify if or when court time comes. She doesn't deserve this crap. So yeah, other behaviour has to be considered. If Zachary and Garrison came out right now and admitted defeat, they might actually be able to win their case. But the longer this goes on, the more suspicious it becomes.
