Hoping it goes to a good home!
wish more CL ads were as nice as this one lol. absolute steal in this market at only $5k, hope it goes to a grateful home!
@@veganjoy a fwd manual 2002 170k miles volvo for 5k? a steal? XDDDD
@@megaxboxx i'd bet you can't find one as nice and well cared for as this one for less, around here even trashed ones with automatics are already 5-6k
Just to clarify, Substitute Topher is not my mom
😂
What do Substitute Topher mean?
@@djrek521 Both of them are Christophers (Tophers) and every now and then the other Topher makes a video on TheTopher channel. Maybe we could call him Topher Junior😂
😂😂😂
Never would’ve known until u did
Honestly when you first turned your head I thought it was going to be your mom 💀
same 😂
Or
very real jump scare
substitute topher jumpscare
Same! For a second I was like uhhh what?? That's not your mom 😂
You're not fooling anyone, Topher. "Substitute Topher" is secretly your son, and Tedward is your brother. I get it man, as your loyal viewers, we'll hold onto your secrets.
His mom looks just like the other Topher
Now this is tempting to buy, I have a soft spot for 5-cylinder Volvos. Always loved those, used to do regular maintenance on them in mechanics class in high school. Things are indestructible.
Wife would probably hate me getting another car though 😂 I’ve ran out of room.
Too bad Volvo is now a part of the alliance of planned obsolescence vehicle manufacturers.
Among other companies
I know you you are that guy with the red chewy cruze
I've once had this model, de 2.4 D5 (Diesel) engine; it was a great great car. Stil have a soft spot for it, too! And I still like the model!
my dad still drives his 05 X70 with da 5cyl... he has 330k miles and everything major is original :D
better to ask for forgiveness than permission
Your mom is pretty badass for driving a manual.
I guess everyone in Europe must also be a badass....
I remember when these first came out and thinking how much better looking they were than the previous ones. This will make someone a great little car. Very cool to see it still on the road and in good mechanical condition.👌🏽
had one of these N/A s60s for 4 ish years... I think these are super underrated vehicles. they don't rust out, decently reliable and very safe for the time period, and the design has aged a lot better than most sedans of the era. IMO this was one of the last old school "utilitarian" cars volvo made before they went upmarket and started making overcomplicated, disposable vehicles. Huge plus for this one is the lack of a sunroof, as the drains are known to clog and flood the footwells.
Imo as someone who’s owned 4 p2 01-04 s60 T5s the NA sounds the best too. They have enough power as a nice commuter but are definitely by no means fast, but with minor exhaust work they sound almost identical to a v10 and imo even better than the turbo models.
babe wake up thetopher dropped another banger
My mom had a first gen xc90. Rode to school in that. Fun features in it like the built in booster seat. Turbo I5. My mom let me shift the transmission in the passenger seat. Solid car. Cars from the early 2000s are just great. Maybe it’s nostalgia but I think that generation of automobile is my favorite.
I really like this generation of volvos with subtle styling, safety and good to drive also very clean car man, congratulations to your mom to keeping this car on the road
Absolutely love these, can’t wait to pick one up in the near future😍
this thing is so nice and so rare it deserves to be on cars & bids. hopefully the new owner takes just as good care of it!
Good luck with sale! I just picked up recording devices to start making POV videos of my own, I just wanted to tell you that you guys and Tedward have really inspired me.
this is literally the same spec as my first car! so much nostalgia watching this video. I almost have chills watching this
just thinking about a car from 20 years ago having such great quality leather and still runs with barely any rust to me is better than anything else i could buy.
Crazy how the seats seem to be in such good shape, here in sweden alot of these old Volvos with leather seats have rips or cracks everywhere. The person who buys will be one happy person lol
18:58 Fuel cutoff is 6900 rpm for the NA engine, but trust me, nobody is home past 6500 so you really want to shift by then.
My first car in 2010 was a 04 s60 2.5t. I miss that car everyday, nothing like a Volvo. When he was talkin how smooth opening the doors were. I felt that so much haha
Loved the video! Gonna buy one of these soon and this video gave me a great impression of the car! Thanks guys!
What a wonderful little car. Hats off to your mother.
We are a Volvo family as well! My daily is an 04 S60R 6 speed, we also have an 04 V70 2.4 which we’ve had since new and my mom has a 2018 XC90. All of which are great cars. Love the Volvo content! Hopefully you get another 850, S60, or whatever in the future. I wish you lived closer to Seattle so my R could be reviewed. Anyways love the content.
It’s gorgeous imo….i have always loved the s60, back then and the current models are so beautifully designed!!!
Nice! I had a 2002 S-60T Auto (Black on Tan). It actually was a great ! Pricey to maintain, but it never let me down. One of the safest cars out there, plus those seats...I could do1 0 hr trips. That open cubby in the center of the dash used to drive me crazy so I bought the optional factory cupholder that goes in there. The only complaint I ever had was the turning radius was horrible... Drove it to 105k and sole it for a decent chuck on change. Enjoy and hope it goes to a nice home!
i miss my 2002 volvo s60 T5 with the spaceball 5 speed, absolute blast to drive
this was my first car in 2014, but it was a 2001, same engine and manual gearbox! loved it, it was dark grey
I've owned a facelifted 2008 S60 2.4 5 cylinder, 5-speed manual, 170hp, Atacama Grey exterior with tan full leather interior just like in the video. It was a mighty car that, felt like a solid tank.
The engine note and the doors/hood closing sound is all I needed to know.
I grew up in Volvos too, my dad had a 98 S70, 04 S80 T6 and 08 S80 V8. My mom had two 07 XC70s too, that dash brings back a lot of memories.
This is the PERFECT Volvo design. I appreciate how lovingly maintained this one is.
Nice review. We had similar childhood rides. Got driven to school in a 240, 850, xc70. Just drove the xc70 in over ten years and can’t believe how heavy the steering was
Wow, this 2002 Volvo S60 is a timeless classic!
Great condition for such an old car! 🤩
The Volvo P2 chassis is a work of art. The 2.5T is a wonderful engine. Love my 07 XC70
I learned to drive on a '05 automatic FWD. Mine was almost identical but in white. Mine finally went off to the scrap yard when I got a new WRX this past February. It's a shame these cars aren't worth the maintenance costs because they're such nice cars.
I had a manual 2002 S60 T5 manual with the sport package and loved that car, it was pretty quick too!
I've never seen a manual with leather interior, so cool that your mom drives this.
I have seen many.
I love that this car was configured with a naturally aspirated engine and a manual transmission. It should provide many, many more miles of motoring. (Bonus of that era: no infotainment BS!!!). Overall a very nice car that appears to be in very nice condition. I hope that the next owner enjoys this car and takes good care of it like your mom has.
God the classic 5 cylinder sound never gets old. You should do an update video on your old 850 R! The P2 T5 turbo 5 speeds are a joy to drive
That button to drop the headrests is so awesome! What a trick! I always thought the S60 was weird, being between the S40 and S80. 🙂
Man, my first car was a 2001 volvo s60 2,4t. Loved that car and the seats was wonderful.
I just got a new car (2023 kia forte gt) and I've been hooked on this channel for a while now! Need more old car POVs!
6:41 topher petting the owners manual is hilarious
Pretty rare car. Don't remember the last time I saw a non T5/R P2 manual, let alone no sunroof.
She keeps it so clean😍
This was the peak Volvo era. Absolutely wonderful car to drive for long distances.
inline 5s are amazing. my 2004 xc90 sounds amazing, you can even hear the turbo wheeze and whirl when you put it down
My beater is a 03 t5 manual that I've had since 2007. I wish it wasn't true about the maintenance, but the seats are absolutely devine to sit in.
You and your whole family loves Volvos. That's amazing. I also love Volvos too
I have 2003 S80 with this engine and also with this transmission. I bought it 2 weeks after passing my driver's license and it's "The dream limo" 😎
My favorite Volvo engine is this 5 cylinder, it sounds heavenly.
I got one, 2006 with a D5 163hp + 6spd spaceball manual. Rigid ass car, happy to rev, no weird noises, little to no rust, seats are phenomenal, audio system is above average to today's offerings. I believe the clutch also hasn't ever been replaced lmao
20:04 that little slot you guys were talking about is actually for the pop out drink holder found in the S60 in other regions. Search it up, it's a quirky little thing that folds out quite nicely :)
In addition to that, some models actually did have a full-on phone there.
Just picked up the same car, 5 Speed Slicktop, except 2003, black/greycloth, and a V70. They just don't rust! Gets great mileage and is fun!
I remember seeing this car all over my neighborhood during the 2000s 😂 a cult classic for moms everywhere
We have almost the exact same family car history. We had a white 240 sedan when I was born, dad replaced that with a white 850 sedan, then a dark blue V70 which is the station wagon version of this S60. Then another V70, the last model.
You can feel how the 850 was the basis for Volvo for the next decade. The V70s drove exactly the same way as the 850.
your mom looks young ! good for her
fellow manual red s60 here! bought my s60r a year and a half ago and i absolutely love it!! My 300hp vs. your mom’s 168 is an insane difference tho
This is incredible
My first car was a red SAAB 9-5 Aero with the 5 speed manual. Worked for a Volvo dealership so I've been in my fair share of manual Volvos and now I daily a '99 S70 T5. It's rare to find a manual S60 non-R.
Aftermarket wheels reminded me the one on the Saab 9-3. The tray by the radio is like the optional phone keypad, if I recall right.
I drive an 05 S60 R! Lots of issues but I love my baby. Don't have the money for this (as you would expect lol) but shared it to some other Volvo guys who might be interested!
The clutch on these old P2 volvos are suprisingly strong. I bought an old S80 from 1999 that had roughly 31k KM on it. had to tow it since the brakes didnt work. Only thing was that the clutch couldnt disengage FULLY for some reason. However we didnt notice that. So after about 8km of towing we finally made it home, opened the hood, and holy shit there was clutch smoke everywhere. We believed the first new thing we needed was a clutch. However its still holding up after another 3,5k km since we got it, INCLUDING several hundred burnouts. Just had to rev a bit and dump the clutch and it would spin pretty good on the road, also the same engine as this one, 2.4l 140hp.
I've got 2005 V70, which is same car but wagon. Handed down by my parents. Love it. I've had very same thoughts as you guy throughout the video. Biggest gripe is it's automatic and it pains me terribly. I never stop thinking about switching it for a manual.
IKR!
I just got a 2012 Volvo S60 T5 in march and I love it so much. It is actually my first car. It is really nice. It's fast, has really nice features especially for a 2012 and it just is an amazing first car. I am so glad to have it, but Im really just glad to have a car in general now. I would recommend buying one if you are interested it is definitely worth it. Volvo's are very nice and luxurious cars even older models like my 2012. They were way ahead of their time back then.
You didn’t get the one with the Ford Power Shift? Right?😅
@@klaspeppar5619 yea no I didn’t lol why?
@@levonyoung3749 they are not very good, they are comparable to the GM 4T65 in the automatic P2’s with the Modular 6, but even less worse..
They are so not good that Ford has been sued over them.
That's awesome your mom drives a manual Volvo!
These Volvos are definitely not the most exciting sedans on the planet, but theyre just really, really *nice*. I would absolutely love to daily drive one of these.
Man if this was in California I'd be seriously tempted to pick this up. Looks and sounds really cool
My first car! (Mine was auto, a bit jealous) Same thing with the gauge cluster, vibrations crack the solder joints so you can usually just heat them up and reflow if you dabble in soldering irons haha
I used to drive a S40 2.4 for a while back in the day. It wasn’t fast, but I did really like the character of the engine.
Omg I’ve owned one of these for years and never known about the cup holders at 2:20, so cool
option you pay extra forl, my 04 doesnt have them lol
If I lived in Ypsilanti, I'd buy it today. That's a great car!
The design is a classic
If you're interested in buying one of these but you're unsure of the interior, don't worry! They come in many different variants. I have the black / gray interior with a better looking stock shifter and I love it.
Be sure to get the recalls done!
Your mom is a badass for driving that!
I was never a fan of Volvo until I drove one, same goes for the new Chrysler Pacificas
I'm obsessed with Volvos
Man, I really want this car. It will be my first car if I can buy one used here in Indonesia. Hopefully soon. Love to hear the thunk when the door closed just like you said!
Might be get an automatic, but it's still better than the low cost green car option in Indonesia here
I miss my 02 s60 it was a solid car.
Man, satisfying video after night shift, with a beer
Amazing condition of the car
I wish there were more manual Volvos out there
your mom is cool as hell for driving this thing
Exactly! The 2.4i is not fast, but the driving experience is very good. There is no center floating center stack in the S60 is there? I hope the new owner will keep it in the garage!
My dad had a 2001 Volvo s60 2.4 diesel and sold it with 200.000-250.000 and it never had problems and always runt good and my dad took really good car of it and we loved it I have great memories with that car we had it for 9 years and and it had around 190hp but we never knew why because standard it has like 160-170hp my dad thought it was tuned from the factory I think it maybe had a ecu tune
Bro you got me scared when you turned your head I was like damn
you can tell volvos are similar to saabs, a lot of the things you point out as very unique are also on lots of saabs, similar stories seem to come from both cars as well
Might have to take the trip from NJ for this one :p
my parents use to have this car and it was a nice car and was very reliable
That Moose bit at 12:07 sounded like something from Seinfeld 😂
Awesome car!👏
love these i have an 07 S60R
Plenty of Volvos without heated seats (which I agree seems super counterintuitive). My 2001 S80 didn't have them!
I found older cars wayyy better than current modern cars. The new fancy features are kinda getting in your face. In older cars, stuff are there because I need it.
I don’t have time to watch the video right now so I hope I’ll find it again later, but I have to say I test drove a 5 speed S60 20 years or so ago before I ended up buying a Civic. I was impressed at the time that I could find one of these for only about $22k. It had cloth seats and was quite pleasant to drive. I also tested a manual S40. I’m looking forward to watching this later. Nowadays Volvo tries too hard to impress everybody.
my friend recently bought a blue s60r and he loves it despite the money hes basically thrown away to keep it running
My first car was a 2007 Volvo S60. It was a great car.
Great car!!
That S60 is gorgeous. Love that it’s a 5 cylinder & manual. My mom still has her 2003 Volvo XC70 2.5T with 285k mi and it works great. I’ve been trying for years to get her to sell it to me lol.
Volvo has always been the classiest everday car on the market.
