I am in my late 60s. I came out to my parents when I was in high school. They sent me to a conversion therapist who committed me to a hospital where I was subjected to aversion therapy, which made me physically ill, counseling that made me guilty of something I literally had no choice in, and electric shock treatments. I came home emotionally and physically broken, but still gay. My parents never spoke about what I went through and never apologized for what they put me through. To those of you who say that being gay is a "choice..." Just imagine if you were subjected to the same "treatments" to turn you from straight to gay. Would it work?
Very sorry you was subjected to that Ron! Times was much different back then I guess, progress is happening everyday and the kids of today have it much easier!

I like how the therapist made the point that the Dad needs to be "nurtured" too. You can't expect people to instantly unlearn on the spot beliefs that have been drilled into them their whole life. It takes time for people to evolve and people shouldn't be condemned for needing that time.
Raising a child when you were raised with toxicity is healing but you've got to hit the gas on your healing to avoid traumatizing your child
When it comes to being a parent, the child doesn't have to wait.

I don't watch the show but when I walked in I told Moises .. wow .. this place is so quiet it should be called a library and not a dinner. Then after we sat down and the Actors started I told Moises maybe we on Punk'd .. anyway .. when the father walked out it turned from me thinking it was a TV show to something real and so the conversation began .. I was just happy when the TV cameras did come out that it wasn't really happening as I know how all that feels with the emotions the kid was going thru that I went thru talking to my father

This episode actually almost made me cry. I came out to my parents January 2019 and they weren’t accepting and it sucks because honestly till this day I still don’t accept my self and I’m not confident enough to go out maybe find a guy I’m highly interested in and bring him home. Out of fear of what my parents and family (cousins aunts) May think
edgar perez stay strong man 💕💕
at the end of the day, you can't stay like this and remain miserable, you have to go and live your life and approach the guy you like. Your parents might be uncomfortable by it but honestly, it's your life, and if they love you they will love you regardless, they might not accept it initially but they will at some point. You are their son and the only difference is that you're gay so they have to love you. (or else se las van a ver conmigo)
Leslie Alanis that’s true, and as bad as it sounds I still go through that now. Like I’m not comfortable bringing anyone around all though they know I’m out. But thank you! Lol I’ll keep that in mind (se las van a ver con migo) ❤️
Dont think this way my (cute) dude. It's gonna be okay. We love ya
Edgar I know whats it like. I grew up in ireland in the 70s and 80s. It was hell. I wanted to kill myself. When I was at uni I realised that there was nothing wrong with me the problem was homophobia and i had internalised it. Homosexuality wasn't decriminalised until 1993. Stay strong brother. Everyone must be who they authentically are. Maybe try to find some support groups in your area. You could even find groups on the Internet. Being gay is a beautiful thing. If you learn to love yourself for who and what you are then the world is your oyster. There are some great gay social groups out there if you don't like the gay scene and it can be a good way to make friends. When i found the gay community in dublin many years ago it helped me feel not so alone. I wish you all the best.

Because she knew as a social worker that a parent react violently when something happens with their family wherein it involves physicality (beating and slapping) in public that's why she talked to the child when the father took a break, maybe she thinks that she's probably adding fuel to intensify the misunderstanding of both sides that's why she didn't join in the conversation. Social workers aren't diplomats to arrange the problem/conflict ongoing in the family/people hence, they counsel the group of people to give help establish a solution.

It's heartbreaking when someone wants to end it all just for being different, that man is so strong he deserves the best
It's so sad that people are made to feel like committing suicide is easier than living because of society not being accepting...
I would be so devasteted and furious if someone I love would hurt themselves because some di**head told them they are "not valid".
Suicide should never be the option. But it's very hard. People commit suicide not because society didn't accept them but because even their family members didn't accept them. Everyone wants to be accepted. Acceptance is the most basic requirement for a living being. Even before love.

ChrisG022 You- you do realize it’s to add emphasis to a text. And why are you so mad about it like literally it was one word- don’t get all triggered about it😹😹
@@chrisg0228 it's the way the media likes to say "period/periodt", PERIODT
“In the end love wins” ohhh so touching they really chose the right one for their amazing finally scene wow I adore that last guy 👍😘.
So much for being able to tell your parent anything
If your parents won’t accept you then I’m your parent :)
Rebecca LMFAO
Okay mommy/daddy ;)
*yuh*
Please
Yay new parent!
Aye that Spanglish is great
cool penguin it is spanish
Shamila haq he means that her spanish and English is good. Spanish + english= Spanglish
V.I_ Fan what, no... Spanglish is when you talk in Spanish, but your Spanish is affected by your English.
Decoy Sheet well that's what I meant.
V.I_ Fan oh, sorry
I am a latina mom & my Son is Gay. When he came out & told his dad oh boy he was really upset , disowned our Son! . But guess what I stood by my Son's side & always will be because regardless of his preference" that is my Son. "I Love him with all my heart❤❤❤💯💯 & now his dad has accepted him it took him some time. So I can relate to this video. Regardless what your kids are you as their parent should ❤❤❤ them to no end, instead of judging them.
3:00 I cried so hard. That's beautiful " she's still mine " was so sweet, I hope my parents feel this if I ever come out
when the mom said “she’s still mine” that melted my heart ♥️ that’s how all parents should think
Even mine should accept me for who I am.
"but we're latinos" lele pons is that u ?
lAtiNA
She’s cringe
LMAOO
"We're rolling one last time" = shit is about to become real/ fucking emotionnal
Another thing I feel that may be overlooked is the outright dismissal/laughing off of one's coming out by way of "You don't know yourself yet" or "It's just a phase" ; I loved how the last man spoke up for him, really shows kindness :)
When I have children, if they are gay I don't want them to come out to me. I want them to just bring their partner home regardless of what gender they are and say hey mum, this is my partner/boyfriend/girlfriend or whatever. Straight people don't have to 'come out' and I don't see why gay or bi people should have to. Bring your partner to meet me, as long as they are a nice person, treat my kid right and they both like each other and have fun, I don't care what gender, colour or religion they are. My children's happiness and wellbeing always come first
Jen Shaw amen!
Jen Shaw 👌🏼👌🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Brandon it's more about just loving your children unconditionally and supporting them no matter what. As one of the men said in this video, there is worse things in the world. Suicide rates are so high amongst young people who are alone and not able to tell their family or have come out and their family have not been supportive, and that is just awful. I want my kids to be my kids, but also to be my friend and to understand they can tell me anything and I would be there supporting them and guiding them where needed. Hopefully as time goes on we will see that as times change, people attitudes and minds will open more. It also goes to any of my friends or even my future kids friends, if they are having a hard time, they would always have my support
Jen Shaw omg i love that so much. I don't get why people have to come out, either.
Ooow. Such a good mom! :)
"In the end, love always wins"
Could've kept running tape on that last customer...I would've ran out of tears ♡ stay strong brother, there are always friends and love out there, even from a straight ALLY such as myself. WE GOT YOU FAM
" Coming out it's not for your parents, or your friends or anybody, it's for you " ❤️
My mom found out I’m not straight, I was practicing telling her and she come son and said “hun, we know, go tell your father he owes me 10 bucks”
Panic!atTheEverywhere 😂 😂 😂 😂
YES
Oh my god😂😂
😂😂😂
LMFAO😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love how the first lady switches to English and Spanish randomly.
No todo el mundo habla dos idiomas de manera tan fluida 👍
I do that all the time, haha. There are some things that sound better or are easier to say in one of the two languages. Like I'm not going to say No mames in English.
I can speak english, spanish and tagalog fluidly at the same time 🤣🤣
I dont do that when i speak but my thoughts are definetly bilingual (:
I can't read Spanish, but I can understand what she was saying without the subtitles. I dunno if its because of the Spanish blood the flows through my veins. Or its because I watched to many telanovela.
@@howtoliveyourbestlife6730 but see I don’t understand what no mames is lol
As parents you're supposed to love your children unconditionally.
But you can still love your child unconditionally without accepting what goes against your beliefs.
You can’t “disagree” with it. It’s who the person is.
Just be looking at the black guy smiling makes me happy and reassuring 😂😂 I’m not even kidding
Kylie Bailey i know right, the smile is so sincere and warm, its the most soothing smile ive ever seen
Actually how I came out
Me: hey mom can I tell you something
Mom: yeah sure
Me: I’m lesbian
Mom: I know
Me: what?
Mom: you’re literally wearing rainbow sweatbands as we speak what was I suppose to think
Me: ...
Mom: now go shower u smell like football practice
Dis_boi_freddy :3 holy crap that's amazing
Hahaha I love your mom 🤣❤️
😂
Dis_boi_freddy :3 yaaas
Lol am I the only straight person here on this vid?!
It takes courage and strength to come out, the people in the video gave good advice.
When he said coming out is for me I lost it and started bawling
Whenever the black guy was smiling it was so heartwarming ✨❤️
that black guy at the end :D so heart warming to hear his story.
Thank you Hawk eye
«it’s for YOU», man made me cry
"At the end of the time, love always win" I wish my parents knew that love is the best thing we can do no matter I'm gay or not.
