  • We are visiting the Hill Station of Munnar to learn all about Tea! Join us to tour a tea plantation and tea production factory in Munnar Kerala India.
Munnar is a picturesque hill station located in the Western Ghats mountain range in the Indian state of Kerala. It's renowned for its lush tea plantations, mist-covered hills, and serene landscapes, making it a popular destination for nature lovers, honeymooners, and adventure seekers alike.
Here are some highlights and features of Munnar:
Tea Plantations: Munnar is famous for its vast tea estates that sprawl across the hillsides. The region's tea industry dates back to the late 19th century when the British established plantations here. Visitors can take guided tours of tea factories to learn about the tea-making process and sample different varieties of tea.
Eravikulam National Park: This national park is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, a mountain goat species endemic to the Western Ghats. The park's rolling hills, grasslands, and shola forests also offer opportunities for trekking and wildlife spotting.
Anamudi Peak: Situated within Eravikulam National Park, Anamudi is the highest peak in South India, standing at an elevation of around 2,695 meters (8,842 feet). Trekking to the summit offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
Mattupetty Dam: This concrete gravity dam is located near Munnar and is a popular picnic spot. The reservoir created by the dam offers boating opportunities amidst scenic surroundings.
Top Station: Located around 32 kilometers (20 miles) from Munnar, Top Station offers panoramic views of the Western Ghats and the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu. It's one of the highest points in Munnar and is known for its misty landscapes.
Echo Point: As the name suggests, Echo Point is known for its natural echo phenomenon. Located near the Mattupetty Dam, visitors can shout out into the valley and hear their voice echo back.
Kundala Lake: This artificial reservoir is another popular attraction in Munnar. Visitors can enjoy boating and pedal boating in the serene waters surrounded by lush greenery.
Flora and Fauna: Munnar is blessed with rich biodiversity, with a variety of flora and fauna endemic to the Western Ghats. Besides the Nilgiri Tahr, the region is also home to species like the lion-tailed macaque, Malabar giant squirrel, and various species of birds and butterflies.
Overall, Munnar's cool climate, stunning natural beauty, and numerous attractions make it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a tranquil retreat amidst nature's splendor.

The kids are good sports to go along with every thing. They find ways to entertain themselves. The wealth of knowledge they are gaining will help them adapt well in life. And they probably not aware of how much they are learning. This is better than being stuck in a public school classroom in the US. I wish my parents had done this.

We had the same thought when we got insight into the harvesting and manufacturing process! He did let us know that the teas we typically see in most grocery stores mostly use the stem (where the caffeine also comes from) and that they lack the same quality and benefits as the tea harvested and manufactured from the actual leaves. Very interesting

But for some truly beautiful spots, head to places like North Sikkim, Ladakh, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Aru Valley, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Ajanta and Ellora Caves, Statue of Unity, Rani Ki Vav, and Lakshadweep. These are some of India's best-hidden treasures.

lovely, joyful family. I'm glad each of you are having a good time on the trip. Please make extra precautions for your safety when traveling in India. These days, gang rapes are on the rise and rampant, and even while the police are responding quickly, but these kinds of incidents are simply irreversible.
    1) Please don't let your wife start conversations with men before you're comfortable that opposite person is safe. You should always lead the conversation first.
    2) Always carry a sharp weapon and avoid going to deserted or dubious-looking locations. If you happen to find yourself somewhere where you don't see any local women around, get out of there right away.
    3) When choosing a hotel for your stay, always choose well-known brands rather than small, unknown local properties. Many rapes and molestations occur under such hotels.
    4) Have a local number on hand in case you need to call the police.
    5) Please leave immediately if any family members get intuition that the place is not appropriate. Avoid accepting food or snacks or drink from locals in dubious situations as they might add something malicious to it and make you unconscious.
    6) States like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar should be avoided at all costs. Avoid going through those states altogether; You should absolutely not go there. if you must, take a flight or one of the slightly better trains, like the Vande Bharat. where possible one should enter and exit India through Mumbai or any South Indian airport. Avoid Delhi.
It is always safer to travel in groups if you have buddies with you if you like to visit remote locations. Please heed the advice of government in your country as most governments in Europe and the US have issued active cautions against traveling to India owing to safety concerns for women. Communicate and keep in touch with your country's embassy in India.
Although these precautions are severe, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Once upon a time, In India we lived in a wonderful civilization where we used to think that visitors are gods, but nowadays, rapes, molestation, scams, and harassment are routine and happen often. Because of the large population, cleaning everything will take some time. Till that time, be careful, cautious, and safe. Take care and return safely with happy memories.

It would be great if the tea plantations were kept free of litter. We did see a couple of large white bags along our route. I think those might be for the workers to discard of their trash.
