It all started when they thought canceling shows like Proud Family, Kim Possible, and replace them with teenage sitcoms.
Jeff Linder isn’t there like an episode or season limit where when they hit the limit they have to cancel the show? I’m pretty sure they stretched Kim possible to the episode limit. Don’t get me started on the shitty Kim possible live action movie that came out. Absolute trash
Yeah I agree. I mean like way back in the 90’s and early 00’s they had some pretty decent teen sitcoms cuz it was based off relatable things that high school and teens can relate to. The drama and tense scenes is very realistic that the viewer could feel as though they were in this world with the characters. But as time went on these sitcom directors threw that shit away and just tried to make them all comedies with very poor plot I stopped watching tv altogether in my mid to late teens

I lost track of Kim Possible when I moved to the country, where TV wasn't and a dish system was already broken or "Out of date". I was not a motivated enough watcher to force it, and watched DVDs of KP, of which there are s few. Disney is so protective of their shows, few are available, movies or TV. I get along OK despite these First World Problems.

gravity falls was an amazing cartoon and really felt like it belonged on cartoon network. you can say the same for wonder over yonder or star vs the forces of evil, but gravity falls was so original and different that it would make since to be on an animation platform like cartoon network

Though I actually think it could have used another half-season. Just I would have liked for Stan to get journal 2 before journal 3. Also some more episodes with Gruncle Ford.
Also with Gravity Falls I'm still a little mad it didn't have the balls to not give Grunkle Stan his memories back. I think an epilogue showing him in a mental resort for people with Alzheimer would have been really powerful. It would actually be a very real thing. Old people forgetting everyone they love and becoming a shell of their former selves is extremely common.
Thanks for talking about this dilemma. My dad worked on a show called Tangled the series/Rapunzels tangled adventure and won an emmy for it. He hates how Disney does not care about their animation and cannot even do well with their live action shows. Each one has kids in high school (though a lot of viewers are like 10 yrs. ) And there is always that one character who is a dumbhead, the one that is sassy, "the dumb dad", the weird mom, and the fact that they all call each other stupid and the audience is supposed to laugh. The only recent good one was bizardvark. Again, thanks for talking about this.

@@coyraig8332 Well yeah, there are exceptions to every rule (you'll notice I never said all of them were bad) but most of them are nothing more than shameless cashgrabs. Speaking for myself I don't think they would hold up any better than I know the Land Before Time direct to DVD sequels did. Maybe some of the songs would be nostalgic enough to be entertaining in a sort of so-bad-it's-good kind of way but with maybe a few exceptions I'd probably find myself skipping through them out of boredom. The only Tarzan one I saw was the one where they edited 3-4 episodes of the show together and it's been at least a decade since I last saw it.

You in an alternate universe I liked Suite Life and I watched a bit of Hannah Montana, the big brother was and is a pretty funny actor and I feel wasted in the material thrust upon him in the series he has appeared in. Aside from those, I can barely get a giggle per episode and that is unacceptable when something like The Rescue Rangers is still able to keep my attention and make me laugh. (It helps that I haven't seen the entire series since not all was aired here in Denmark)

1. the shows that are based around high schoolers (which isn’t the targeted demographic) and using the most classic character tropes and making the same show over and over, and just giving them different titles.
2. Trying to appeal to children with smartphones and electronics, attempting to be “trendy”.

I think he meant more of the fact that the show wasn't like a HUGE heavy hitter for most fans compared to Kim Possible and Phineas and Ferb, not the fact that it wasn't anything special. I mean, based on the video, he did make it sound like it was more special than the 2003-2006 DC cartoons, so that's something.
The Proud Family is one of the best cartoons ever!! It’s relatable, funny and hits on some real topics! It had the most substance out of the cartoons Disney has put out

Phineas and Ferb and Kim Possible were honestly the two best animated shows Disney Channel pumped out. Funny thing is... Kim Possible started in 2002 and wrapped up in 2007. It wrapped up two months after Phineas and Ferb started... Honestly, it was like a big changing of the guard and if you look at the layout of characters between the two shows... The characters in Phineas and Ferb are a reversal of Kim Possible's characters.
Phineas and Ferb: 2 brothers (main characters), 1 older sister (somewhat of a minor character), girl best friend to Phineas, a pet who fights crime (Perry).
Kim Possible: Older sister (main character), 2 younger brothers (minor characters), boy best friend to Kim (Ron), a pet who helps fight crime (Rufus).

Luckily it seems that things have at least _started_ to get better, with shows like Amphibia, The Owl House, and Big City Greens. It’s still largely dominated by sitcoms, and Disney XD Originals are still an issue (DuckTales aired its first season on XD, moved to Disney Channel, then went back to XD for reasons the world will never know)...
But. They are starting to air quality animated shows on Disney Channel, and who knows? Maybe eventually, the cartoons and sitcoms will be equal in terms of airtime.

Turns out Stan was played by three different dogs and they would paint spots on him. ( idky cuz his face was CGI) I believe the first one died but all were so cute!

I personally can't comprehend how more companies aren't pushing to make another Avatar: The Last Airbender. But in the sense of investing time, effort and talent into the story, animation and characters. There are still gems being made or have been made (Gravity Falls, as many of us can agree, is truly top-notch). ATLA has TRANSCENDED GENERATIONS. Kids STILL watch it, along side adults (the og watchers) and teens. Their merch STILL SELLS. The money is STILL COMING IN. So why not keep making masterpieces. They aren't a quick cash grab, no. They take time and money, but they pay off.
Stop making shows and movies that die before we do. If I lose the urge to watch it again, it has failed.
I agree with everything you said. It's not like quality doesn't pay off. If you put time, effort, creativity, thought and soul into your cartoon you will be rewarded, both financially and critically, for a long time to come. The fortunes you will make on those cartoons are way bigger than those you will make on a simple cash-grab. That seems to be a factor that Disney has forgotten about in latter years. I'm not questioning the competence of the Disney staff (I don't think anyone does) but I am questioning their ambitions. It seems to me that they aren't trying to create good cartoons anymore. They don't strive to make another Gravity Falls or ATLA because they know they can make fortunes even if they are less creative and are putting less effort into their work. They play it simple but smart in order to access the money, completely forgetting that they will make way more money if they actually put their time, effort and soul in their cartoons. We all know what Disney is capable to do.. it was the company that gave us stellar cartoons like Duck Tales, Kim Possible, Gravity Falls, Phineas & Ferb and Recess. When Disney actually put effort, time and thought in their cartoons they are unbeatable without contest, and it's painful to see them wasting that potential on awful teen sit-coms and sub-par cartoons. Sure they will get their instant cash but what more...? A reputation of being greedy, not caring about their audience and not caring about delivering quality content?
Maybe Disney's live action sitcoms could go on a thing called "Disney Live," and the animations on Disney Channel, while reruns would be on Disney XD.

The only thing is that Disney XD would end and be replaced by the two channels for reruns.

Ironically, I only ever watched cartoon stuff on Disney Channel when we still had cable TV. I always switched channels or turned off the TV the moment live-action stuff turned on. And I'll bet that I'm not the only one who was like that

Ummm, I'm calling BS on Jake Long, friend. It was also an action comedy that had a pretty built up mythos with a semi original premise, strong characters and story arch that were often addressed. It deserves way more props than it gets.

The thing about length is that it isn't about how long a show goes on, it's how long it can stay fresh. I've never watched Pokemon, but one of my favorite shows is 15 or so years old and it still offers me with surprise after surprise, thrilling action, and a constantly fleshed out universe. Not shitting on P&F, but just making a point.

I was about to get irritated when you mentioned some of my favorite Disney animated shows being 'meh', but then you pointed out how Nick and Cartoon Network did better. I watched all three as a kid... And yeah, I definitely watched the other two more and enjoyed them more. ALTHOUGH, Lilo and Stitch was my jam.
What they need to do is show reruns of old Disney cartoons/shows like american dragon, kim possible, that's so raven, Hannah Montana, etc on weekends or holidays. That would be so SMART and that would make old viewers so happy and it'll bring back so many nostalgic memories😩

The ducktales movie with the magic lamp was something that I watched so much as a kid on vhs with my grandma, along with TMNT, a bunch of Scooby-Doo movies, and Chased by Sea Monsters. A staple of a night in with mac and cheese, ice cream, and root beer.

pretty much. I've always preferred cartoons to live action stuff, which is what turned me off Disney channel for so long. Like, I actually got angry when CARTOON network just randomly decided "oh yeah, we do live action stuff too now." Like...that logic still eludes me. But yea I didn't see Gravity Falls or Star vs the Forces of Evil until way later, and neither of them really feel like Disney. (I guess because Disney REALLY wanted all in on the freaking live action, terrible teenage/child acting.) I completely see the irony of such an iconic animation studio not wanting to put animated cartoons on their tv channel.

I characterize the transition to garbage as the Zendaya Era. Simply cuz I can easily catalogue and date her appearances. The last batches of good shows were Shake it Ups era (Ant Farm, Wizards of Waverly, early Liv and Maddie, Jessie Austin and Ally, Teen Beach movie (aka the last good movie to come out of Disney) KC Undercover era is when some bad shows started to come up but still some DECENT stragglers. then the terrible movies started after Frenemies and Geek Charming era (How to build a better boy, Bad Hair Day, etc etc all bad movies)
Btw: I love all of Zendayas shows it’s just I can easily remember the shows that were on during these times.
