  • I hate things sitting on my desk and getting in my way!!! So I mounted my stream deck so it's elevated over my desk top, and you can too.
    This mount will only work on the 15-key Streamdeck, as the XL and mini versions are obviously larger or smaller.
    I thought I would share, happy Streaming!

    i had the same idea with my audio mixer, except the phone clamp i had was weak and wobbled alot. this clamp you used looks way more sturdy

      @MarcusHutsell  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi there. Yes, the phone clamp is very sturdy, the weakest point is which particular articulating arm you use. The cheap ones are fine for a streamdeck, but of course you, I, can spend a lot of money quickly on more expensive articulating/friction arms. Some of the more expensive arms are worth it, some are not. But when i'm using an expensive piece of gear on the END of that arm (like an Atomos Recorder), then I always use a betterm arm like a Noga CineArm or the Spider Crab b/c those things will HOLD!

    Great idea …now if could find one that fits a streamdeck plus.

    • @Varadiio

      The Stream Deck plus has screws holding its base on, for whatever reason. This is fortuitous, though, because we can mount a base plate with those threads.
      Probably the best is the XL. Its stand attaches with fairly powerful magnets in the corners, so it's trivial to make a magnetic 1/4" thread base plate for convenient modularity.

    Thanks for sharing this excellent video. Please share the link to the coupler that you pasted at Ulanzi clamp. I am looking this for my another DIY project. Thanks

      Hi there. I think the one I actually used came with a small ball head or some other gear, but these flat couplers from Camvate look to be identical…. and it was probably a Camvate piece of gear that I took my coupler from in the first place.
      Here’s a link, and I will also put this link in the description of the video. Thank you for pointing out that I forgot to share this part! Good luck.

      I'd like a stream deck XL solution too !

      Hi there. A lot of people have asked for this, but, as of yet, no, I don't have a similar solution for the XL. I don't have an XL, so I can't test, plus most of the similar style clamps aren't deep enough, as the XL is thicker than the 15-button streamdeck. If I do find something similar, I'lll post!

    Do you have a similar solution from XL version

    • @MarcusHutsell
      @MarcusHutsell  Před 4 měsíci

      Not yet, that XL version is thicker, (and I don't own one) but I have been looking for some sort of clamp to do the same thing. If I find something, I'll post!

      @@MarcusHutsell The XL's corner magnets make it much easier to build a smaller, more modular system like just a plain baseplate with four magnets in the corners and a 1/4" centered on the back.

    You control studiolights with your streamdeck? Like godox?

    • @MarcusHutsell
      @MarcusHutsell  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi there. So, mostly I can only turn certain lights ON or OFF. I can't control anything else like intensity or color temperature......unless it's a phillips hue bulb.
      It's a bit finicky on the setup, and I have to use Siri Shortcuts to do all of this......which takes more time to set up , AND, of course, you have to be an Apple iphone/macbook owner/user.
      Basically, it's this:
      My Key light = Neewer Advanced 2.4GHz 480 = Plugged into a Smart-Outlet that is directly controllable from Apple Homekit.
      This way even without any needs of a Streamdeck, I can tell my iphone or Homekit to "turn on key light" and that smart outlet turns on......giving power to my Neewer 480, and the Neewer 480 comes back on at the same intensity and color that it was when it was turned off. This is important, as MANY COB lights will NOT automatically turn on JUST because they are given power. For example, my Godox ML60bi won't turn on unless you press the button on the back.....so, I can't use my Godox ML60Bi in this way with the smart outlet.
      Then: Set up a Siri Shortcut on my Macbook using the default "Shortcuts" app, and that Shortcut will turn on that smart outlet (just as if I'd manually turned on the smart outlet using Apple Homekit). The thing is here, you have to make a shortcut for "Key Light ON," and a 2nd shortcut for "Key light off." (or "Office Lamp On" and "Office Lamp Off," etc).
      Then, when I'm at home, I used the default Elgato Streamdeck Software to control the streamdeck (so, I don't use Companion at home).
      There is a plugin for the Streamdeck Software to perform Siri Shortcuts.
      So, then, I make a button to perform a Siri Shortcut for that "Key Light On" Shortcut.....and a 2nd button for "Key Light Off" Shortcut. So, at the moment, I do have to have 2 buttons to do this, I tried putting both "on" and "off" shortcuts on a toggle, but it wasn't working properly.
      Then I just have a Streamdeck page with most of my office lighting already on it, I can turn on/off my key light, my back light, some Quasar tubes (also plugged into a smart outlet), and I can control a couple of Phillips Hue bulbs directly using the Phillips Hue Streamdeck plugin.
      I can also activate ANY scene that I have set up in Homekit. So, I have a "Meeting" scene for my office where I can hit one button on the Streamdeck and ALL of my lights in my office turn on-or-off depending on how I want that scene to look, and I'm mostly ready for a meeting.
      So, the workflow is:
      Apple Homekit with my Macbook Pro (I can also use my iphone to program homekit and Siri Shortcuts)
      Set up Siri Shortcuts to activate certain scenes
      Program a button on the streamdeck to activate that Siri Shortcut
      And done.
      Takes a bit of set up with Homekit and Siri Shortcuts, but I've had my home on Apple Homekit for a long time, so adding to Streamdeck didn't take that long.
      Works MOST of the time, sometimes I have to reload the Streamdeck software.
      I hope that was helpful :)

      @@MarcusHutsell it was, although I don't use or even have access to Apple gear 😁 maybe I am going to look into DMX integration into home Assistant. But DMX compatible gear tends to be more expensive. But that way the stream deck could send a command to HA to control the lighting.
      Godox TL60 has it, though I would prefer two TL30. SL30bi doesn't have it either.
      Setting up a 2m*2m studio 😁 and it is nice to have big lights for secondary use in other locations, it must fit in this chicken coop 🤣
      I am thinking of staying with one manufacturer for now, having one ecosystem/app seems nicer/easier. I heard that you can turn on the godox via the app when power is restored? Aka without climbing on furniture to push a button on the back? That is rather crucial
      I do appreciate the long response, thnx. I subscribed just now 😁

      @@annebokma4637 No problem. Yes, I think we'd all like DMX controlled gear! the Aputure lights, at least some of the new panel lights from Aputure, work similarly in their "studio mode" similar to my cheap Neewer 480, to where, if you simply restore power to what it's plugged into.....the light will come back to its previous state......aka, you/I can turn it ON. Then once all the lights are on you can use the app to set intensity/color.
      But I also HATE having to ALSO use my phone with an APP just to control my lights after their on. I wish manufacturers would continue to provide a physical remote in addition to the app-functionality. Despite how good its getting, you still have to pull your phone out.....unlock it, find the app, open it......wait for it to find your fixtures......takes much longer than a physical remote. Which is one reason I stick with the Neewer 480 because it also comes with a physical remote for intensity and color temp that I just keep in a little drawer at my desk.
      Aaaaanyway, there *might be an Android/Windows workflow, assuming Android , or Windows, or maybe even Amazon alexa-controlled smart outlets can be controlled by some streamdeck app/plugin. I don't like or use Amazon Alexa........I have ONE Alexa smart outlet that I use to remotely reboot my Apple TV if I'm not at home.......that way I can "reset" my entire Apple Homekit by NOT using homekit..as long as my house has internet, the Alexa Outlet is accessible via Amazon and .......boom......I can reset my Homekit easily.
      Aaaanyway.......at least I've found a solution for quickly turning on/off my office fixtures. Good luck!

      @@MarcusHutsell I strongly dislike all internet operated assistente. I use zwave for most automation. I do happen to have an Android tablet that I am using to control the behringer x18 audio interface/mixer and home assistant. Having it control the lights too isn't a big problem. It would do till I find a way or an alternative to get the integration I really want.
      I can also get some IKEA lights and wait for 3 to 5 years when everything is wifi anyway 🤣

    These little units as cool as they are require so many extra background processes to actually make them function to the level that is required to make them actually useful out of the box. They don't come with anything that's very useful requiring the users to go to the app store and browse through user-made apps. And be careful cuz in the confusion you could download an app that hasn't been thoroughly tested by their security team and cause an infection vector into your system. 😂 I returned my unit.

      This is true, however, in live-production, almost everyone uses the bitfocus Companion app and NOT the "Elgato Streamdeck Software" app. At home I use the Elgato app, but when I am running a live-show, it's ALWAYS Bitfocus companion.
      And yes, they absolutely take some work to get them to "do" anything out of the box. And they obviously require a computer to even work. So.......a pricey little box that you have to program yourself......but if you are into that (us nerds are) then it's VERY powerful, especially with BitFocus Companion.
      I don't believe they are "professional" products that *should be used in professional live-production because they are consumer-based products.........but it's certainly a good backup on a live-show, ......or a primary, as long as the operator can still operate the other equipment if the Streamdeck goes down.

      Definitely takes a while to get everything set up the way you want it especially if you are also adding in custom icons. Took me like 2 months to get mine set up the best way possible for my use. Truth is, the pain of getting everything organized is 100% worth it, you will never find a product that works with all of the programs that you use out of the box. Sure you might find one for a specific program but that's it.
      I created most of my shortcuts on my own and have a profile for pretty much every program from my browser and Excel to MS Paint, Teams, Slack, and even programs most people have never heard of because you can use hotkeys
