    In our local TI4 meta, Promise of Protection is considered valuable enough to warrant a swap with another player's Support for the Throne. Historically, the holder of PoP (presumably one of the first neighbors) will probably save themselves 8-12 trade goods over the course of a game (perhaps less now that PoK has generally reduced game length to ~ 6 rounds).
    Kaptain, you've done a fantastic job with the Grokking series, and I hope you will revisit the TI universe in the future. Thank you! 🖖 👏👏👏

      You’re very welcome and thank you so very much for all your support. I definitely will be doing more videos on TI4 in the future. Next is Grokking Battletech though, I already filmed the first episode. Soon I’m also going to get started on Grokking Your Game, I hope you like the videos I have planned. 🖖😁

    The plasma scoring tech works really well with their flagship and the graviton laser system tech (and PDS2). It's a bit more prophylactic approach, but it can do some damage.

    • @TheBoardGameKaptain
      @TheBoardGameKaptain  Před 2 lety +2

      It definitely can do some damage. The combination of those three effects together can be a real deterrent to other players attacking you when they see you have fleets at the ready for a counterattack especially with the flagship.

    I think going for AI Dev right away to skipp the Green pre rec for Cruiser II is the best way to go. It give's you Warsun tech aswell.

    • @TheBoardGameKaptain
      @TheBoardGameKaptain  Před 2 lety +1

      That is definitely a viable option. AI dev Alg is just a great tech.

    Instead of predictive, graviton Lazer. Would be strong with plasma scoring with your flagship

      If specifically defending a system with some space cannons. It would be a good deterrent for your opponent to attacking.

    Best possible turn 1 Mentak play is researching Cruiser II. Not possible in every game but really powerful. You can even destroy Muatt's war sun (yep I have done it turn 1). Mentak are just great.

    • @TheBoardGameKaptain
      @TheBoardGameKaptain  Před 2 lety +1

      That's not easy. I assume that you managed to get two trade goods (either from doing a trade with commodities with the cats or from Pillage) and that you got the Technology strategy card and spent all your resources from your home world plus your 2 trade goods to get 2 techs so that you could get a green tech and then cruiser II. Cruiser II from the very beginning with a faction that has a combat ability for cruisers would definitely make you a terror on the board.

      @@TheBoardGameKaptain I think I traded commodities to get to 6 resources. As a result of turn 1 Cruiser II they created 4 player coalition to demilitarize me (officialy for destroying the war sun). My fleet was destroyed, expansion slowed done considerably so I was unable to win. But I still managed to cause trouble on the table

      Thanks very much! I'm really glad you've enjoyed the series. This is actually the last of the faction deep dives as I've covered every faction now. I will have more Grokking TI episodes coming in the future though less regularly and my Grokking Battletech and Grokking Your Game series are coming soon so stay tuned! :)

      Thank you, and thanks for all of your support through the whole series. I've recorded the first two episodes of Grokking Battletech, so that's coming very soon. I'm also working on developing the Grokking Your Game series. I hope that I'll get it going within the next few months. I also have at least 3 more episodes of Grokking Twilight Imperium that I'd like to do that aren't faction deep dives, though I'm planning to really spread those out. Stay tuned! :)

      @@TheBoardGameKaptain any chance you could do a TI4 guide on choosing faction based on map slice (technology skips, resources, abnormalities, etc) and neighbours? I played most factions that I was interested in, and now am trying to choose factions based on the situation (e.g. choosing Nekrovirus beside a Jolnar player, Mentak next to Hacan, Nazrohka Alliance with green tech skips, etc).

    • @TheBoardGameKaptain
      @TheBoardGameKaptain  Před 2 lety +2

      @@SilentNSly someone actually requested something similar, a video on how to build your map based on what faction you chose to play. I'll be working on that. As for picking factions because of good-great matchups already chosen by other players, I'll have to think on that. I'll have to see if I'll be able to get enough out of it to make a whole episode. It is a cool idea, so I'll see if I can make it work.

    • @SilentNSly
      @SilentNSly Před 2 lety +2

      @@TheBoardGameKaptain in my play group, we build the map, then randomly determine starting locations… finally player pick factions in order of the amount of resources/influence in the systems adjacent to their starting location. That causes us to build fair maps.

    • @TheBoardGameKaptain
      @TheBoardGameKaptain  Před 2 lety +2

      @@SilentNSly that’s a very interesting way to do things. It makes for a far more random galaxy. That said, I do think most groups pick factions first before building the galaxy. What made your group decide to house rule the setup in that way?

      There are some factions, especially in the expansion, that I can totally take against these guys that would make them struggle.
