  • As many young Jewish high school pupils and university students graduate after a strange and truncated academic year, I want to share a version of a 2017 speech I gave about "The Jewish Algorithm" because I believe it contains some crucial messages as you continue on your journey. Think of it as my commencement speech to you all! Mazal tov!

I'm 95 years old and listened to this commencement speech. It made me remember how, when I was a teen-ager, I wished I was not Jewish and wanted to be like everyone else. It also reminded me of the thought processes through which I came to understood the value of being a Jew and how it changed my life.

Susan Rosenberg I'm 72 and it's a journey that many Jews have made. I'm deeply grateful that Rabbi Sacks has helped inspire me to higher purpose and higher ground, and in 1980, to our ancient and modern homeland, Israel, a gift of hasgapha pratis, personal divine providence, which we all have.

Intimacy with G-d is also fundamental in deepening ones roots. Are we not in the period of Jeremiah ' s prophecy in 31 v 33 "I will put My law within them, and on their hearts will I write it" ? The law needs to be more than "head knowledge" or a sense of "belonging". It needs to be "heart communication" with our intimate
G-d who loves us so limitlessly.

Like always there's a negative comment from those who are so jelous of the Hebrews. This commentator is trying to show his holyness of the heart, but his spirit is without understanding. His idolatrous heart will never understand the works of the All Mighty God, Creator of the universe. His purpose for mankind, he insists on his own creation, rejecting the truth of life. The Creator of the universe. Blessed is He!

You are a great lecturer for sure. Also assuredly, the Jewish people received greatness from God, in ancestry, in law, by the prophets, and so much more which remains unacknowledged.
Please do not forget the substance of serving God. Why did God destroy the previous temples? Where is the priesthood, the sin offerings without which you cannot please God and stand before him daily! Tradition has its value, but even some mostly atheist nations celebrate Christmas without any faith whatsoever. In those places, you're the odd one out if you don't say "Merry Christmas." Ironic how tradition trumps faith in those places.
As before, so now, serving God with humility, righteousness and >truth< is a must. The truth of Messiah, the Son of God, the Son of Man, the truth of redemption by this son of David who is our Lord and King. Not by Christian denominations, but by truth of the given word of the Bible, even the New Testament writers who were all Jews.
Today, the apostle Paul tells us that the fleshly is less than the spiritual:
    Rom 2:28 Darby For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither that circumcision which is outward in flesh;
    And:
Rom 9:6-8 Darby 6 Not however as though the word of God had failed; for not all are Israel which are of Israel; 7 nor because they are seed of Abraham are all children: but, In Isaac shall a seed be called to thee. 8 That is, they that are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned as seed.
As Scripture states, it is spiritual Israel and Jew that now served God. Are you a spiritual Jew?!
Thus, fleshly Jews must realize what serving their God today has to include. Do not forget that God took away your foundation on which the practice of Judaism stands and provided a way to himself beyond animal sacrifices--namely Jesus Christ, a Jew and the Son of God:
Psa 2:11-12 Darby 11 Serve Jehovah with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way, though his anger burn but a little. Blessed are all who have their trust in him.

May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed."
God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?

With all due respect, it his high time to get off this self admiration horse. Jews have always left Judaism. Since Flavius, there should be more Jews than Indians in India. Most of them did not fall to the sword.
Today, we have a leadership problem. Jews have equality in Europe - but not in Israel. The most glaring example is the attitude of present day leadership to women. How many orthodox female rabbis do you know? Fortunately, Conservative and Reform Judaism, which are discriminated against in Israel because of the Orthodox stranglehold, correct this situation.
There is no meaningful dialogue. The Torah she ba’al pen is an amazing document. Unfortunately, the moment it was written, it’s primary characteristic is reactionary stagnation.
Unfortunately, Ben Gurion had no choice but to give the religious the monopoly over essential aspects of our statehood. The result is no dialogue but good old fashioned coercion.
These are issues that a leader with your knowledge and stature should be bravely concerned with.

I want to testify and witness to Jesus Christ. All of the miracles He and His disciples did were from above (HaShem in Heaven). Many people witnessed Jesus Christ rising on the 3rd day. All of The Gospels were about Jews and Jesus Himself was a Jew. He was non-violent, but was killed by His own (The Jews) and also The Romans. He was pure and holy as He followed HaShem over religious traditions, caring for and liberating the oppressed in this world. He did not hate, but was hated. May HaShem bless everybody here and peace to all.

"Jesus" wasn't his name as much as you/we have nothing written by that real person that really existed... before becoming the figure you mentioned. Please do not forget that Jews have a very serious memories and texts as well, from each specific period of our own history. As so on that one.
So when Christians talks about that topic, shouldn't they simply repeat a belief or shouldn't they start what any Jewish believers is required to do:
Confronting one's belief to the knowledge from that specific wisdom ?

Hello all, I hope you are doing well. I agree that I am not well versed with The Tanakh or Jewish traditions as I am a Gentile Christian. Yes, it is a mystical thing-the trinity we Christians and Messianic s believe in. Jesus performed many miracles by HaShem in Heaven-healing the blind and deaf. There is no darkness in Him. Some of the people in The Tanakh lusted for women, Jesus never did as He was pure and holy; the son of God and God revealed (some say) as there was no lust and/or sin in Him as there is none in HaShem-sin imho is when one does their own will over HaShem's such as idolatry and chasing material things such as money over God. I hope you both have a good week. Peace.
