The jaw upgrade is a game changer. The emotionless head sculpt on the prototype kept a lot of us from preordering this Hot Toys version. I am glad HT listened and came up with a solution.

Thank you so much for posting this. I pre-ordered this one months ago despite liking the Sideshow version's facial expression better. The only photos available at the time were of the prototype which did not vary his jaw positions and he looked perpetually afraid or shocked. But I absolutely wanted an articulated version so I pre-ordered the HT one anyway. This video just reassured me I made the right choice. Thank you!

This has been the hardest choice I have ever had to make lol!! Love the articulation of the hot toys but I love the realism of the sideshow!! Went with the sideshow in the end but it was a hard choice both are great!!

It makes no sense that they didn't make the ears articulate too. That's really a big miss.
Seeing as I jumped on the Sideshow one the second they announced it, I think I’m going to go the Adam Savage route and modify mine to give it all the articulation I want 😊

I didn't like Adam savage approach. There is one where they use gorila trypod, but one of those was a timelaps video and another of the same was a Facebook post.
Try Cosplay Chris mod, it's basically Adam Savage mod with more articulations
@@Sablenk87 saw his too! I even saw a simpler one using a tripod stand, but it was a time lapse and no info on what was done, so I’d have to figure that one out somehow

Looks amazing. Ear seams arent ideal but certainly arent the big deal everyone is making them out to be. I agree with this one beating out the sideshow version for a myriad of reasons.

This turned out fantastic, I will definitely be picking it up. The paint work and articulation sells it for me. I was not impressed at all with the sideshow version in person, I felt like he looked gaunt whereas hot toys made him look adorable like on the show. Great review Justin!

Thank you for the great review!! I’ve been waiting for your review to decide which one to get and I’m glad I did wait! This Hot Toys one blows the Sideshow one away in my opinion. I hated the rosy cheeks on the SS one, way too much rose color for my liking. This HT color looks much better on the cheeks. Plus the SS one looking up all the time will get old over time. The ability to turn the HT head and open the mouth, will keep this piece looking new and different. I’m going to order this one now as this is far superior in my opinion. 🙌🏽 Thanks Justin for helping me with my purchase decision. I own the Sideshow version and also just ordered this Hot Toys one!!! I LOVE THEM BOTH!!! Each one is very awesome in their own way. I love keeping my Sideshow Grogu in my art room with me while I’m sculpting, but I don’t put him on a high shelf since he’s looking upwards. Looking forward to being able to pose the Hot Toys version and tempt him with soup & frogs! 🐸 👀😆💚😍💚

14:49 Grogu's face on the Sideshow version looks far more realistic, especially when you compare the chin. For the Hot Toys version the flat looks flatter than it should be.

I haven’t seen it mentioned but the ears of the Hot Toys version look to be slightly mismatched to the color shade of the head. Kind of similar to how the paint shade of vehicle bumper covers often aren’t a 100% to the rest of the body due to the material differences. It sticks out like a sore thumb to me, as do the seams.

To me, the Hot Toys one looks cute and cheeky, whereas the Sideshow one is too serious. So Hot Toys wins on that alone. I will probably pick one up, and wait for someone to write a guide on how to customise the costume a bit (or I'm sure there will be a 3rd party robe available in time as well). I don't mind the ear seams at all.

I agree with your review the Hot Toys is slightly the better one. Love the articulated mouth and definitely worth it to get him in different poses like your video! When you compared the two, the SS pink blush throughout the face looks a bit too harsh, whereas the HT one looks just right. If HT made the ears and hands articulated like the mouth, this one would have been the ultimate Grogu. Great review Justin!

Love your review on this figure Justin. I have loved Hot Toys figures ever since I found out about them and I must say I will definitely be getting the Hot Toys version of this guy. Even with the splitting of the underneath of the mouth. I am very very very very careful with my Hot Toys figures so I don't think I will have to worry about it. I enjoy your reviews as they help me decide whether or not to buy them. Thanks again for reviewing this little guy.
Just read the instructions and you’re going to be fine. It warns of splitting if you leave the mouth closed
I’m so glad it looks better than the in-person photos. The bottom lip puts me off a bit, though. I like that the jaw opens but the top lip looks like it’s farther forward than the bottom lip.
Also, are the eyes as glossy in person as they are on camera?

At 4:30 If you want to get a more accurate metal version of the mythosaur necklace, EFX makes a pretty cool one! I have it in hand and it is very impressive! Great Video and Grogo looks so awesome! I can't wait for mine to come!
You can also get the actual screen used version from the original maker, he sells them on Etsy, name is MostlyFantasy. Dave filini bought a bunch from him and coincidentally they were used for the show.

The hands on the Hot toys version seem massive! Overall proportions are better on the sideshow one. But the paint job on hot toys is better. Both look to have pros and cons.

Still waiting for mine and can't wait. There's a lot of stick about him in regards to the mouth, but it's nice to see good positive things about him. Quick question... By pulling his head down slightly, would it eliminate 'some' tension in the neck. My favoured look for him is with the mouth open on one click. Slight opening if that makes sense. Then have him appearing slightly down with some force move on a smaller 1/6. Silly idea I know 😉

You need to keep the mouth open, please read the instructions where it warns you not to leave it closed for long periods

I can see why you like hot toys better. Im gona be honest, the sideshow one you have looks like an early print, the one I got doesn't have that intensive pinks and blends more with the greens. I also would like on sideshow if they added some pinching on the corner lips.

The rubber used for the head seems really flexible and thin over a hard structure for the mouth articulation. I don’t see that lasting decades. I’ve seen horrible cracking rubber in old toys form the 90s, so for durability I’d go with the sideshow, the head is hard vinyl.

You know what? I think it would be REALLY cool if hot toys made a 1/1 scale yoda (either ESB or prequel version)! Statues are neat yet tend to run for a LOT more, so I think a 1/1 yoda would be awesome!

I guess I can kind of see why people say the HT version looks a little more like a toy, but is it better in person? Also, is the difference in color between the ears and head that bad in person, and do the hands have more detail(the hands look like a plain green in the video)? Just ordered one today.

can't unsee the ear seams.....and the hands are huge in comparison to the Sideshow version, they almost look swollen. But Hot Toys gets points for the articulation and open mouth option. Both are great...just slightly different approach. The Sideshow version is basically a statue....the Hot Toys version is a giant action figure. Both have their merits. I went with Sideshow because I wanted the more serious expression for my display. I may pick up the Hot Toys at some point.

Hot Toys version all the way for me. When you see both versions standing next to each other in your video its like night and day.Personally i can not stand the fact that the Sideshow version head is in a fixed position only moving slightly left and right and will always be looking up and the way the arms are positioned really bothers me, it gives the statue no life and i do not like the Sideshows paint apps,where as the Hot Toys version has plenty of articulation, superior sculpt, texture and paint apps. Love it, awesome review and comparison.😎

I would go with the Hot Toys one as well. I still cannot get past the weathering or the ear seams. I'll have to stick with my 1/6 Grogu figures. Once the scout trooper comes out, I'll have 3 Grogu figures!

I would pick the hot toys over the sideshow but what concerns me the most is the deterioration that the robber is going to suffer. Also the seams are not very pleasant. I think the sideshow is more accurate in my opinion. The hot toys is more baby like which makes him more appealing. I’m still leaning more towards the sideshow one.

I have the sideshow version, so much more realistic, the hot toys version doesn't look right,sideshow went for realism and they nailed it. I honestly think it's an individual choice to that individual

WOW .... you like Sideshow paint apps better? Well .... you can't argue taste. To me, the only win for Sideshow is with the outfit. Even the ear seam is not as atrocious as the pink splotchy checks and the dark wrinkle lines of Sideshow,
