I've been on Teepublic since January 2021. I have 300+ designs, 6 albums, custom banner, and I'm lodged permanently at 'Apprentice'. I say permanently because a few days ago I emailed Teepublic, and asked about why my designs still don't appear in search, and why I'm rated an 'Apprentice'. The reply I got was blunt and rude. I was told my designs will NEVER appear in search, and to NEVER contact them again to have my store reviewed for a tier change. I've decided to stop uploading, like I have with Redbubble. I see no point in continuing since nothing I design will ever be good enough. Time to take the 'L'.

I do not believe they check every store in person and somehow decide if you are worthy or not. Everything is automated with arbitrary settings. The first time they sent the letters, it was said I was an artisan, then I see that I was given the apprentice. I asked them to re-review my store, and a few minutes later, I received an email saying, 'We checked your store, and your designs are not what people want.' Yeah... 'checked' as if anyone would believe that. I do not use any automation; every design is different, and I don't scale anything. I don't have thousands of designs or use clip art. Maybe my designs are not the best artistic masterpieces, but they sell. I have a few best sellers, but the vast majority of designs have been sold at least once. On average I was making about $60 a month. But, yes, people who buy my designs don't know what they want.
Also, the example they give of how artisans and apprentice shops look like is completely and utterly dishonest.

I was sent an artisan badge several years ago so I thought I was good to go....until the tiers came out and I was labeled as Apprentice. I reached out to them and included a picture of the artisan badge I received. They claimed it wasn’t the same and that my designs were deemed unworthy of being Artisan because they felt no one would buy them, despite the fact that I have made consistent sales on there since I joined! They are so insulting in the way they describe the tiers like apprentice are unworthy of their platform. Give me a break! If you are making sales, obviously there is a market for your designs and I don’t out junk up there or tag spam or any of that. And now they want to take half of my earnings along with the rest they already take....nope...I won’t be uploading to their platform any longer. I am sop tired of getting screwed by the entire Redbubble/Teepublic corporation. They are liars and thieves. Take down all the copyright infringing designs on your platforms and you would have a lot less server space to pay for! Easy solution. It they won’t do it because they make tons of money of breaking the law!

If you look at the earnings for Art Prints, the earnings are exactly the same for Artisan and Apprentice. And the margins for Art Prints are way higher than for the other products, so Apprentices can still make good profits if they focus on selling art prints. I wonder if this is a deliberate move by TP to try to re-focus the core sales base away from tees and into art prints?

Here's what I think is really going on at Teepublic with the whole unfair account categorization thing based on some info I pulled up from the message they sent me, stuff on their website, social media pages, artist complaints, 3rd party review sites & sites like similarweb. Time to face the hard truth. In most cases, their store categorization process appears to be randomly assigned similar to redbubble. You can have some really awesome designs but still be stuck with being handed the apprentice category. It's mostly based on the luck of the draw.
No one actually 'examines' your account when you request for a review. If this was actually done for every single request or complaint, there would be serious backlogs that would take weeks to clear similar to the design review process at Spreadshirt UK. This 'work' at TP is supposedly done by a bunch of overworked & underpaid low level employees whose primary job is to clear the huge backlog of messages, NOT to make things right or please you.
They are simply given a set of generic cut & paste reply templates that are blindly sent out to 99% of requests without even looking at your designs or store. No reason given for any rejections because as mentioned, they don't even look at your store/designs as this will take time and 'actual work'. Congrats to the small number of lucky folks who managed to get their artisan accounts but for the rest of us, I think it's probably time to be moving on to greener pastures.

    Hello everyone,
I have an important question to address. As an artist who uploads designs on online marketplaces such as Redbubble or Teepublic, I'm curious about the assurance of receiving accurate payment. In other words, how can you ensure that you are fairly compensated for your work? For example, if the marketplace claims that you sold 20 t-shirts this month, is there a way to confirm that the actual number of sales isn't higher than that?

    • @DetourShirts

Registered companies have to go through an auditing process, usually once a year, as part of their annual financial cycle. This is a legal requirement. The auditor conducts an independent financial assessment and goes through all the company's books with a fine-tooth comb. If any irregularities are found, the company ends up in very hot water. The company has to make literally all documentation available to the auditor during their assessment, so the activity you describe would be picked up in the annual audit. Large companies can be trusted to report the correct sales figures and earnings to you. If they found there was a mistake in the calculations, they would make the correction and send any monies owed to you automatically without you having to ask for it. It would not be in the company's interest to try and fiddle anyone, because they have a legal requirement to report all their financials.

    • @ambienceentertainmentprodu7905

@@DetourShirts As an artist, you are faced with a significant decision. You can either continue selling on these marketplaces and hope that they will accurately compensate you for the precise number of sales, or you can opt to sell on platforms like Etsy, eBay, or similar alternatives. However, in the latter case, you would need to handle additional customer service responsibilities. Nonetheless, this alternative guarantees that you will receive the exact amount of money for each confirmed sale.
What are your thoughts on this matter?

This is my experience applying for a store review to be Artisan. Short conclusion: Don't waste your time, you can't!
So, I'm a semi-professional graphic artist and have created Redbubble and Teapublic stores since February 2022. A week ago I made some significant tweaks to my stores, removing designs that could be considered “spam” in order to apply for a review to be Artisan.
Yesterday, I received the reply: “Thanks for reaching out! You are an apprentice because, after review, we determined that your designs are less likely to interest customers browsing the TeePublic Marketplace.”
This is ridiculous! Why? Because before they present the new categories, I had some sales! My designs also are in one of the most popular niches, cats and dogs! And since they tag my store as Apprentice, I have zero sales. And it's pretty much dead because they won't show up in search results ever again.
And the best part of the reply? “At this time, we do not have any further information to provide, nor will your storefront be considered for re-review.” So no chance of changing your designs, if you're Apprentice you're done, and you can do nothing about it.

so I have a question, I signed up for teepublic not too long ago, I'm new at this. I am trying to create unique designs. I simply sent teepublic a question asking if my store was set up correctly, they responded telling me that I will not show up in search results, and they will not discuss search results ever again (my account wont be revisited by them later), basically, I'm paraphrasing, I'm not saying it exactly the way they said it. but I felt like I was punched in the gut. like they were telling me I'm a big loser and I might as well give it up! Does this mean I have no chance of reaching the artisan category? Should I not waste my time putting new designs? I only post like one shirt a day.

    • @DetourShirts

You won't show up in search as an apprentice... You can move to the artisan category but you will need to create (and sell) design that people want to buy. That could take a while. Keep adding designs and test it out for 3-6 months and see how you do.

I'm categorised as apprentice which according to their condition is correct cause as I understand anyone like me or anyone else who is just uploading about every niche and does not have a targeted store with a specific theme will be apprentice. BUT the problem is my sales have DIED. Like I used to get pretty good sales. So I checked and none of my designs are discoverable anymore. I emailed them about it and they gave me that bot reply which they send to people who's designs will not be discoverable. Although, I am still getting sales, like very very low sales, but they come. It's really strange because my products are basically a single design with three variants (so 4 in total).. I didn't even have a cover art on my storefront yet.. I also tweeted the designs, so maybe the link clicks helped. But I really think the ones who review the stores are looking for consistent art styles that are appealing to them and would sell.
